Drawing Tube Fall 2020

Wearable Design: Drawing Tube The drawing tube was an exploration of wearable design. The goal of this project was to create a wearable product that solved a problem. The problem I identified was that the current method of securing drawing tubes to the body limits one’s range of motion. With the conventional overthe-shoulder strap a drawing tube may fall off when one bends over or tilts their shoulder at too steep of an angle. The solution I identified was to secure the drawing tube to the body in a manner that it could move with the body. In my design, the drawing tube fastens to the forearm. Because the tube is roughly the length of the forearm, it can move with the body and does not limit one’s range of motion.

Detail Mock-Up: Kimbell Art Expansion Spring 2021

Detail Mock-Up: Kimbell Art Expansion The Detail mock-up project explores how to convey the likeness of a building in a limited space. I was assigned the Kimbell Art Expansion by Renzo Piano. To convey the likeness of this building I decided to focus on three elements material, material joints, and fixtures. I started this project by identifying materials used in this project. The four primary Materials were concrete, engineered lumbar, steel, and glass. The next thing I examined is how each material meet the other. The concrete is the primary contact with the ground. The concrete then joins to the wood and glass through visually minimal steel parts. Finally, I examined the fixtures of the building to round out this project. Things like door handles and railing that all follow a similar motif but change material depending on their location.

Restaurant + Residency Spring 2021

Restaurant Spring 2021

Restaurant + Residency The multi-cultural culinary center is a combination restaurant and residency center that can host chefs from around the world to showcase their culinary skills in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. Restaurant This restaurant is designed in two acts, similar to a play. The first act is the bistro and the second act is the chef’s table. Both spaces can accommodate a 15 person culinary performance. The bistro is intended to serve small appetizers and drinks to guests before their main course at the chef’s table. The chef’s table is the main course of this project. At the chef’s table guests are located right next to the kitchen to interact with chef. There is however a glass divider that keeps some of the more heated moments in the kitchen from disturbing the dining experience.

Residency The residency portion of this project is a space for the visiting chefs to live while they are on tour. The residency can accommodate three visiting chefs at a time. The residency features a shared kitchen for the chefs to leisurely cook for each other and a communal living room for unwinding and sharing culinary experiences. At the ground floor of the residency is a community space. This flexible space is intended to give the visiting chef’s a space to transfer their knowledge to the Lincoln community through workshops, or lectures. While commons spaces are a great place to hang out and unwind sometimes everyone wants privacy. Each residency unit has a private bedroom and bath. Each bedroom has enough space for a sitting area to read, journal or accommodate any way a visiting chef might need to unwind.

Lincoln Central Library Fall 2021

Lincoln Central Library Fall 2021

Lincoln Central Library The Lincoln Central Library is a renovation project that uses the Pershing Auditorium as a jumping-off point for a new central library in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. The Pershing Auditorium opened in 1957 to host sporting events and concerts. Since 2014 the venue has sat vacant. This project proposes a reuse of the auditorium that keeps its historic value to the community while adding new value as a central library.

AGGREGATE To form or group into a class or cluster

DRY To free from moisture or liquid

SHATTER 1. To break or cause to break suddenly and violently into pieces 2. To upset greatly

CAVE To capitulate or submit under pressure

CRUMBLE To break into small fragments, especially over a period of time as part of a process of deterioration

To inform this project I used two principles of Aldo Rossi. The first principle is that an impressive form will stay while its function may change over time. In this project, the impressive form was the bowl of the arena. I preserved this through the new floor plates needed to accommodate a library. The second principle is that to preserve a myth one must practice a ritual. The myth of this project was the audience. This project was able to inform that myth through the ritual of circulation up the arena’s bowl. Another component of this project was abstracting a material property to inform the logic of the building. I chose the material concrete and then Identified 5 different properties of concrete. The two properties that primarily influenced this project were aggregate, and crumble.

Steel structuture to maintain

Implement concrete flooring system

Add steel beams to supprot new floor system

Puncture existing faced for new spills
