DESIGN MOTIVE

LEGEND 1 - Jagriti Theatre

To create housing for different user groups for the present site context and it shouldn’t disturb the existing performing arts theatre (JAGRITI) and it’s present inside the site. The The site is actually stationed amidst so many cultural and linguistic groups. The area is always encircled by various user groups where the predominants are IT , common family groups, Institutional and commercial groups .

My top drawer was the IT and the common family groups considering the fact that the given design brief includes a proper residence which is ideal for a family group accompanied by temporary studio apartment which was befitting for the IT groups who works clock in and clock out

03 CONCEPT

FLOOR PLAN OF STUDIO APARTMENTS

The initial idea behind the STUDIO APARTMENTS was to come out from the normal housing typologies and to provide their private spaces. The residents over here are mainly IT PROFESSIONALS where they usually prefer hotels to stay, so to break that contemplation this will help them to this type of STUDIO APARTMENTS.

Moving on to the planning of this typology each unit is planned in such a way that it has one living room and kitchen combined together and it dosent have a separate partition for bedroom instead bedroom is placed as BAYWINDOW which projects out from the living room and separate partitions are given for bathroom and changing room The staircase is being placed outside the building whichconnects first and second floor Adding to the design flavours the roof of the ground and first floor becomes the balcony space for 1 and 2 floor

VIEW OF THE BADMINTON COURT

Idea of bringing in BADMINTON COURT inside the community housing was because many people who stay in that locality face hardship of travelling around 10 - 12 kms for indoor sports courts. So it was a good idea to bring in Badminton court inside the community as it would get revenue to the community by conducting tournaments

CITY CIVIL COURT SEMESTER-5

SITE LOCATION : H.S.R LAYOUT,BANGLORE TYPE : PUBLIC BUILDING BUILT UP : 7500 SQ.M (80,730 SQ.FT)

07 DESIGN MOTIVE

ZONING

To design a ccourt complex in a highly RESIDENTIAL AREA where it should also be user friendly to the public. The court complex should also satisfy the basic commercial functions like Post office, Bank, Bangalore one as the SITE which we are using to design the court complex is the place where existing BDA complex is been built and so the basic functions of the public should not be disturbed.

The site forsees residential cluster on one side and the commercial cluster on the other side and so the ACCESS POINTS were designed according to it. There are two entry points in the site. PUBLIC ENTRY is from the FRONT SIDE and the entry for the LAWYERS AND JUDGE’S is from the REAR SIDE as the road which connects the rear part of the side has less traffic compared to the main road and it serves as SECURITY for the lawyers

08 CONCEPTUAL IDEA FOR WAITING SPACE

GROUND FLOOR PLAN The ground floor plan of the court complex has all the preliminary functions of an ideal court such as NOTARY,CASE FILLING, RECORDS, ADMIN,ETC. The COURT HALLS starts from the first floor. Each court hall do have it’s own JUDGE’S CHAMBER where the chamber needs to be in a private area, so the entry points to the Judges chamberis given seperately from the public. First floor of the JUDGE’S CHAMBER IS CONNECTED TO BAR ASSOCIATION through SKY WALK as it conjugates the advocates and the judge’s to acces the Bar association easily.

SECTION CUT THROUGH COURT COMPLEX

BAR ASSOCIATION is nothing but the Lawyer’s association which comprises of separate cabins for the lawyers, meeting rooms, lounges separate library for advocates, Board room for advocates.

FRONT FACADE OF THE COURT Abiding to the say “ ATTENTION IS PRECIOUS COMMODITY. This building Facade is treated with SOLIDS AND VOIDS seeking to get the much needed importance as it is the main block of function. The void do have a purpose that it allows the much needed ventilation inside the building. The glazing sliding panel accompanies it to make this more viable that it could be opened when necessary. It also provides the much needed privacy in the court halls.

LIBRARY The space is simply exquisitive that is a never before never again experience for users and who would have imagined a space with an ambience coadjute the TREE in the site. Followed by a gathering space in the bottom the library comfortably occupies the above space with a glazed outlook

CAFETERIA Adding to the ambience is the cafe that is placed at the rear side of the gathering space which effortlessly the best pair up space one could ever have. The balcony space which can be accessed from the library actually gives the picturesque overview of the complex which just adds value to the reading process that happens in the library

COMMERCIAL FUNCTIONS The entire structure self speaks for its commercial function that happens. It includes BANKS, BANGLORE ONE, etc which are not forcefully stationed but these functions do existed in the site, so it was just the justification done to it because there are commercial clusters that follow this. It also encourages in human footfall to the court compound

10

BAR ASSOCIATION

The BAR ASSOCIATION and court is bridged through a skywalk since both functions are interrelated. Seperating them would give hardships for movements of the officials.

REAR VIEW OF THE BAR ASSOCIATION

The Bar association unlike it’s contemparies contains a gathering space below and a glazed facade which incorporates all the functions like BOARD MEETINGS, etc hereby reflecting the much needed transparency in the meetings

TWIN HOUSE SEMESTER-4

SITE LOCATION : HARLUR, BANGALORE TYPE : RESIDENCE BUILT UP : 600 SQ. MTS (6458 SQ. FT)

12 DESIGN MOTIVE

SITE CHALLENGES

To design an interesting residence for the given lake site. A group of two persons were assigned for the site where each one of us were supposed to design two houses on the site. This project was not as usual as the other projects because we were asked to create a story for two HYPOTHETICAL PROFESSIONAL’S and their family.

The site which was given to us was interesting as it was near the lake. Even though it was intersting we had some certain SITE CONSTRAINS to design near a lake as SET BACKS, FLOODS, etc. Although we had constrains the idea in my mind was to deal with the POSITIVE’S of the site.

THE STORY

CONCEPTUAL IDEA

The professions which i came up with was a ‘PAINTER’ and an ‘PHOTOGRAPHER’. Both these professional’s were friends and each of them have their own family. The characters in this story are the following. PAINTER’S FAMILY MYSELF - PAINTER FATHER - AUTOMOBILE ENGINEER MOTHER - HOUSE WIFE SISTER

- COLLEGE STUDENT

PHOTOGRAPHER’S FAMILY FRIEND OF MINE - PHOTOGRAPHER

PAINTER’S HOUSE The family of the painter is more authentic when compared to that of photographer’s family. So i thought of representing family’s nature through it’s form. So the FORM of the house was designed in clinical shape which reepresents the nature of the family.

PAINTER’S HOUSE

The response of the lake to residence is represented through the views from the gathering space of the family such as DINNING and garden which is accompanied by a deck for an EVENING TEA. As the painter’s father is more interseted in AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMISATION and its related work so a separate workshop was designed for him near the garage.

PHOTOGRAPHER’S HOUSE The photographer’s family is a modern family and so the form which i have designed is not clinical but contemporary. The family is a kind of FITNESS CONSCIOUS so i have to bring in pool that is placed onlooking the lake side accompanied by a deck and the deck leads them to the LIVING ROOM.

The first floor of the house compris es of bedrooms for all the characters where the painter and his sister’s bedroom has the view of the lake. The enhance the painter’s workability his bedroom comprises of MEZZANINE FLOOR which is his workspace and it also have a view of a lake. To give a private space for the painter the working space is merged with BEDROOM for privacy.

First floor has two bedrooms where one of it is for his parents and the other is for the PHOTOGRAPHER. The Photographer’s working space is in his bedroom where the WORKSPACE is MEZZANINE FLOOR and these space do have the VIEW of the lake. The mezzanine floor was my PERSONAL OPINION as workspace within their own bedroom. The idea of rising the floor on a side was to give SHADE to the pool.
