A Transformed Day
Rabbi Andrew Shaw Chief Executive, Mizrachi UK
What a day.
It began with us putting the nishing touches to the brochures for Sunday and then we were off.
Lunch with Rav Schachter, spending time with Rav Schachterand the London Bet Din. By then the rst plane of 13 of our educators fromIsrael had landed and we started to prepare for the evening.
Last night, twenty- ve shiurim were delivered in Hendon, Edgware, Bushey, Borehamwood, HGS, Kinloss and The Beis. There is a different feeling this year, as if people really understand what this weekend is all about
It is not simply a collection of speakers giving shiurim, you can nd that in a lot of places in the UK What this is, is the UK Jewish community CONNECTING to Torat Yisrael and it is so necessary in these trying times.
This week, in shuls all around the country you will hear from one of our 34 speakers These speakers have experienced something traumatic but have seen our nation transform and unite. We need to hear their voices, learn their Torah and internalise their ideas.
The Day of Inspiration is no longer a day you should go to, I believe now it is a day we have to go to. The Jewish people is not the same as we were before Simchat Torah, we need to understand why the hatred has emerged globally, we need to focus ourselves on what we need to do in response to the changing reality and we need to strengthen our knowledge of and connection to Torah.
The Day of Inspiration provides this and so much more.
And then there are our educators.
Four of our speakers have lost their children and brother to Hamas – yet they speak of hope.
Four of our speakers worked in Machane Shura, dealing with the immense loss of life on October 7th – yet they are positive about the future.
Two of our speakers are global Torah giants on opposite sides of the world – yet their Torah speaks to the needs of the Jewish community in the 21st century.
Don’t just come and hear them, come and be present with them.
Being with these people yesterday and today was indescribable. Their humanity, their depth, the passion, their commitment and their wisdom
In just four days it will be Pesach Sheni, a day when people complained.
‘There were men who were ritually unclean [because of contact with] a dead person, and therefore could not make the Pesach sacri ce on that day. So, they approached Moses and Aaron on that day Those men said to him, "We are ritually unclean [because of contact] with a dead person; [but]why should we be excluded so as not to bring the offering of the Lord in its appointed time, with all the children of Israel? Bamidbar 9 – 6-7
The complaint was beautiful. They didn’t want to miss out on the incredible mitzvah of the Korban Pesach. A ceremony that connects them to the events of the past in a powerful and indelible way. They understood enough to realise the spiritual lack if they were not able to partake in the Korban Pesach
Similarly, do we understand the spiritual opportunity that this weekend presents to us? Do we understand how participation in the weekend, connects us to the events of October 7th and the Jewish collective, through the people who lived through it and emerged with clarity, determination and drive.
So, make sure you join us this Shabbat across the UK.
Make your you sign up for one of the SEVEN centres this year
I hope that there is standing room only in many of the rooms this Sunday. It really should be Unlike Pesach Sheni, you cannot experience the Day of Inspiration in a months time –the time is now.
See you Sunday, please God not just a Day of Inspiration
But a day of transformation
Shabbat Shalom
