Guest speaker of the evening During the evening we had the great pleasure to welcome Dhr. Johannes Rokebrand who is the Director of SABA as the guest speaker of the evening. Mr. Rokebrand provided us with overview of SABA, its services and current situation. Saba stands for Stichting Algemene Bajaardenzorg Aruba. They provide institutional elderly care and residence at their facilities. Saba is currently in 3 different locations on our Island, Oranjestad, Savaneta and San Nicolas. They currently have 255 residents. This week SABA is celebrating their 40th year Anniversary. Maristela which is located in Savaneta was the first to open it’s doors to the community 40 year ago.
Mr. Rokebrand mentions that their facilities are in good shape but their equipment are in poor shape. They also need additional funding in order to cover their educational costs. Saba is funded by the Government but also receives some additional funding from donations. Saba is the only institutional care in Aruba and the demand on our island is increasing. Currently SABA has a waiting list of about 150 people. In May 2011 the organization was able to obtain an elderly care specialist Dr. Gonzales. For more information on SABA please visit their website www.saba.aw
