Chadwick Arboretum - The Ohio State University - Columbus, OH

Chadwick Arboretum - The Ohio State University - Columbus, OH The Chadwick Arboretum represents a collection of horticultural specimens. The re-design of the site acknowledges the importance of these specimens to our environment. By manipulating topography, the new Chadwick Arboretum showcases horticulture in their natural surroundings. From moist lowland areas to high and dry plains, the site presents trees in conditions that they succeed in.

Concept Development The premise of the new Confluence Park design stems from the idea of what happens at the intersection of two opposing entities. The Scioto and Olentangy rivers converge at a point, merging two forces. Wind has been known for it’s immense power at both creating and destroying earthworks. This design is based on the on-site meeting of two opposing winds that sculpt, manipulate and create forms and spaces.

Graduate Course Design The Blurring of Site & Architecture

This design attempts to integrate both embedding and lifting elements within the context of a wildlife observatory. The elevation of architecture respects the ecology of the ground and it’s topography becomes exposed.
