Letter from the Editors! Crunch! Magazine is a project that we editors work very hard on. We meet twice a week to edit, add, create, and design the magazine. We look over the submissions very closely and critically. As we look at our submissions, we edit them before we put them in our magazine. We hope you enjoy this issue of Crunch! Magazine. We would like to thank everyone who submitted without your help we wouldn’t be able to make this possible! Sincerely, The Crunch! Staff

Samantha Elbert! Away I’ll Fly When I looked up at the sky, I knew one day I would fly. I’d fly so high, I’d touch the sky. You’d say “hello,” Then off we’d go. We’d travel together No matter the Weather. And one day You’d say, “Please stay” But I’d be already be gone. You better treat me right Or I just might Kiss you goodbye and fly off in the sky.

Kenneth Merritt! Bashing the Browns The Cleveland Browns ? More like the Cleveland Clowns. The Browns haven’t had a winning season in a few years. The only good thing about them is they haven’t gone 0-16... yet. They have switched coaches so much. The coaches are so bad they should live in the dog pound with the Canton Bulldogs. Ever since returning to Cleveland as an expansion team they have stunk. The best record they’ve had since then has been 10-6 in 2007. That same year they didn’t make the playoffs. They lost a tiebreaker to the Jets. This isn’t a bad record but it is a normal season record that most teams get more than once in a decade. The draft picks they’ve taken seemed good but most of the players they picked went nowhere. Johnny Manziel was by far their worst pick. He got suspended for a wellness policy violation.

Josie Mayle! I’m (Not) Sorry I had too many performances. I needed a break. I was always tired, but it's my own stupid fault for waking up so early. Jasmine looked tired, too. I felt bad for her. She had to wake up in the middle of the night just to deal with me. I'm too needy. "You ain't lookin' so hot, Anthony," Alysha noted when she saw me walk in. Her final performance was on that day. I didn't want to say goodbye. She's moved onto bigger and better things, though. I'm proud of her. "I'm fine," I said, but I wasn't. I wasn't fine. I ain't ever fine. I'm always depressed or angry or tired. I ain't ever fine. "If you say so." Alysha knew I wasn't fine. "You gonna pass out with Jazzy in between shows?" I managed to laugh a little. "Yeah. We're both pretty tired, and I didn't have enough time to grab any coffee." "That's rough," Alysha said. "You can always get something' from the coffee machine." I shook my head. "Nah, it's okay. I don't like the coffee from that thing, anyway." "You're crazy." Alysha laughed. "You sure you're okay, though?" "I'm fine." I ain't ever fine. I looked behind me. Jasmine was looking at me. She had that look again. That look that said, "You ain't fine. Stop telling' people you're fine." She saw right through me. In my dressing room, Jasmine was sitting in my chair and looking at herself in the mirror, straightening up a bit.
9
"Your eyes are puffed, Anthony," she said. "You cry at all last night?" There ain't no point in lying to her, so I just told the truth. "Yeah . . ." I sighed. "I'm really sorry . . . I've been givin' you a lot of trouble, haven't I?" Jasmine gave me another look. A different look, though. "You ain't never been givin' me trouble," she said. I could tell she was a little annoyed. "You been more emotional than usual. So what? We all get like that every now and then. It don't annoy me, though." Her expression softened, and she became the understanding, kind Jasmine I'm used to. "I'm here for you, Anthony. If you need anything, tell me. Wake me up in the middle of the night. Wreck my plans. I really don't care." I gave a timid smile. "Yeah . . . thanks, Jazz..." It was weird, seeing people care. Most of the time, everyone thinks I'm calm and collected with my whole life together. Most of the time, everyone thinks I'm the famous rich boy who always got the easy way out. No one really stopped to listen to me. But I noticed my Jazzy's face. I noticed her eyes. She looked upset about something, and I couldn't help but feel sorry. "I love you," I said quietly. She smiled, but her eyes were still sad. "I love you, too." The longer we performed, the more sick I felt. My head was killing me by the time noon came. Everyone told me I should just go home and they could get someone to fill in for me, but I wanted to stay. I needed to stay. I hardly ever missed a day unless I had somewhere to be or I was throwing up. Other than that, I was at the theater. Later on that day, Carleigh decided to try to convince me. I don't know why. She should've known that it was pointless. "You're obviously sick," she argued. Yeah. Sick. That's the right word to use. "I'm fine," I said, but I was lying. I ain't ever fine. "No, you're not." Carleigh looked at me with stern eyes. She always was the motherly type. "You need to go home, Anthony. If I see you here tomorrow, I'm beating you up." She likes to joke around, too. "I wanna be here for Alysha's last curtain call!" I protested. That was a lousy excuse. 10
"I'll send you a recording of it." I noticed that she was already packing the stuff I brought. "Go home." I was surprised she didn't follow that with, "Alexander. That's an order from your commander." I sighed. There was no point in arguing. "Fine . . ." I grabbed my small bag and threw it over my shoulder. I know she's looking out for me, but I'm an adult, too. I can handle myself. Did I tell you how much I love Jasmine? Because I really do love her. She does so much for me. I feel like I just don't deserve her. After everything she's gone through, she still ain't afraid to fall in love. Jasmine got hurt real bad in her last relationship. When we met, she had a black eye and a swollen lip. She kept her mouth shut about it for a while, but once we got to know each other, she told me her boyfriend was beating her. I was the one who got him sent to jail. We'd been together ever since. It was pretty late when Jasmine got to the house. I was in bed, just staring up at the ceiling. I didn't have anything better to do, and looking at my phone would make my headache worse. I didn't see her walk in, but I felt it when Jasmine sat down on the bed. "How you feelin', babe?" I shrugged. "Could be better." Jasmine nodded. "I think we both could be. What's even happening?" "You know," I said, looking away from the ceiling to look at her. "Dallas got outta jail last week." "Yeah . . ." Jasmine sighed. "Don't talk about it. I don't wanna think about it. I don't wanna think about him. You know, you're at more of a risk than I am. He's gonna wanna find you." I knew she was right. I knew he was gonna do something awful to me for "stealing his girl. Jazzy was never his to begin with, though. She's mine. She always will be. Ain't nobody gonna take her away from me. "Get some sleep," she finally said. "You need it." She kissed me goodnight and left. I hate being alone.

Samantha Elbert! I’ll Be Your Hero When I first met you, I didn’t know you, But I said to myself, It’s time to help. So I walked over, And I said hello. And you moved closer And said, “Stop going solo”. We got to be good friends, Until the end. And that’s when you lost control, And so I said, “I’ll be your hero. Then one day, Some kids were picking on you, So I said, “Hey, that’s not cool”. You asked me, “Why did you help me?”, I said, That’s what friends do”. I’ll be your Hero, I’ll catch you When you fall, So just stand tall, 12
Because I’ll be your hero. I’ll catch you when you fall, So just stand tall, Because I’ll be your hero.

Lexie Norris! Jackie the Unicorn Once upon a time on a nice summer day in Uniland, there lived a unicorn named Jackie. She had four best friends named Lexie, Melanie, Zach, and Shannon. They do everything together. Like they play volleyball together. One =day while Zach spiked Shannon in the face, Mrs. NoName came. She laughed at everyone for not getting there serve over the net. So during the school assembly people could get drawn to get pie smashed in their face. Shannon made all the tickets in the box with her name on it. So she got called. Jackie, Lexie, Zach, Melanie and Shannon all came up and smashed one pie each in her face. After that Mrs. NoName never bullied Jackie, Lexie, Zach, Melanie and Shannon again. Lexie Norris

Samantha Elbert! I Promise I Won’t leave Hush my child and sleep now, Hush my child and sleep. Hush my child and rest now, I Promise you I won’t leave Every time you close your eyes, I’m looking down on you. Every time you breathe child, I grow closer to you. Every time you breathe child, My heart skips a beat. Every time you move child, I just want to sing Every time you look at me, Oh, I can’t breathe. When you lay head down, I start to sing. Now that time is ending, I can’t say goodbye. In my heart you’re with me,
17
Even though I’ll leave you behind. I promise I won’t leave.

Liberty Crawford! Pep Rally Review This year the Pep rallies were awesome. There was the eighth grade band which played Massillon Will Shine, Seven Nation Army, and the Washington High School Alma Mater. The percussion section also played a cadence called BGSU. For the seventh and eighth grade pep rally there was a chant war seventh grade versus eighth. The chants included “We love our band” by eighth grade and “Why so quiet?” by seventh grade. There was a jello eating competition, dodge ball, knockout, relay race, hungry Hungry hippos human edition, cheerleading dances, the football players doing a dance with the cheerleaders. The volleyball, cross country, and football teams ran through. Who can forget the win Massillon had against Mckinley with a final score of 21 to 19. The students ran onto the field at the end for the Alma Mater. We are all proud to say we got the bell back.

Kenneth Merritt! Attack on Pearl Harbor On December 7th, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. President Franklin Roosevelt declared it,“ A day that will live in infamy. Pearl Harbor was the second biggest attack on American soil. This was no doubt an underhanded attack. Japan hoped they could take out their biggest and strongest opponent the United States Navy. They also hoped such a big attack would frighten the U.S. into staying neutral. They failed as America entered the war soon after. Four years later Japan surrendered after the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. World War 2 was finally over.

Brooke Hamilton! The Eraser Goes to School Hi! My name is Aaron, and I’m an eraser! When I lived at the store, I was new and clean, and I was happy that way! One day, I saw a lady and her son stop in front of me. Then, they picked me up, put me in their cart, bought me, and took me home! The next day, the boy put me in his backpack for school. I’ve never been to school before, so I was really excited! Unfortunately the boy forgot to zip his backpack all the way, and I fell out. I was kicked around a few times in the hallway. When all the sudden I was picked up by a random stranger! “HELP, HELP!!!!!!”, I cried in distress, but no one came to save me. In class, my abductor, started rubbing me against paper, and it really hurt too! At the end of the day I was dropped again! I was dirty, tired, and sad. My first day at school was terrible! Then, I was picked up by something new! A mouse! The mouse took me to a hole in the wall, which was his home. He even introduced me to his family! They were all really nice, and we lived happily ever after, the end.
