Brief: The objective is to encourage contributions for a week long, non profit pop up print exhibition and shop that will be held at the Leeds Corn Exchange between March 28th and April 4th 2014. The theme of the exhibition is ‘dialogue’ where each creative will submit a design that will be used in a blind collaboration. Contributors must be open to their submissions being manipulated through the use of print and the match making process, that will pair the two submissions together. This will create a series of screen-printed artworks that will be displayed throughout the running of the exhibition. Submissions Yoke welcomes creatives from all creative backgrounds to contribute to the exhibition. We’re now ready to start recieving your ideas based around the theme of ‘Dialogue’. Submissions can take any form of the theme. It could reflect directly on past conversations, forms of interaction or it could spread further afield to what you think communication is today. Specifications Submit to: yokeleeds@gmail.com Artwork must be: - A3 Landcape or portrait - Vector or halftone images - Black and white - 300 dpi

Website To help with Eve and Nathan’s event, I made a simple responsive website to display the brief and link out to the yoke social media pages. Starting with fixed vertical dialogue and yoke logos, I split the brief into two columns, and set this with lots of space and only horizontal rules to break up the text. I coded this to break down into one column on mobile to make better use of space. Using the same styling, I also customised the yoke Tumblr page to provide some consistance across their online presence.

Entry 1 For my individual entry to Dialogue I wanted to try something more experimental that would give interesting results when printed. I liked the idea of showing how interaction between pattern can make optical illusions that could be translated into print. By overlaying two identical hatched shapes I was able to show how the interaction between shapes can change their form. The crossover area creates a completely different pattern because of the rotation of their overlap. For the exhibition, this entry was paired with French Designer Marion Denoual, who based her piece on the game children play to communicate through cups and string. They were printed ontop of each other to create a completely new print. (below)

Entry 2 My second entry was created in collaboration with Andy Foster. We looked into the ways different animals communicate and decided to include a joke on the theme. The poster uses two dolphins floating in the sea on rubber rings to illustrate the joke. My collaborative entry with Andy was paired with an illustration of a snake by Italian illustrator and printmaker Irene Rinaldi. They were also printed ontop of each other to create a new print.
