I am excited and fortunate, but mostly blessed to be able to add one lady and four gentlemen on board to work with me. First off, Tera Johnson, been in the January issue with her own introduction is back with us in this issue on her take on hair care in the beauty section. Look for “before and after” hair style for the May/June, Mother and Father Day issue coming soon. Next, Tyler Thomas has the position of being my creative writer. He received his Bachelor degree in English from UTC the year of 2012. Some of you have already experienced some of his writing from the January issue “Thousandth Time” which was the theme for Valentine. However, check out what he has to say about “Chattanooga”. Tyler is very versatile with his writing along with specific detailing no matter what the subject. Joining us in the May/June issue is Kevin Kinamore known as Chef Love. You will have the pleasure of seeing his cuisine dishes and recipe. I’ve known Kevin and his family for many years. I am looking forward to seeing many dishes. Since we had our main course meal from Chef Love, now we have to have dessert. Heaven sent this individual because I did not know he existed but when I saw his Strawberry Short Cake. It tastes as scandalous as it looks. It was a wrap for me. Those of you who know me and my dessert!! Already know! I’m just saying!! OMG!!! Mr. Courtland Bonds, the CakeLounge, welcome to my magazine. We will see what he has for us starting in the May/June issue entitled Pure Scandalous Dessert. Ladies, this person I know has a God-given talent that we are truly bless to have in our city. None other than Michael F. Johnson, MJ’s /Expressions. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to model a couple of his hat that was featured in The Times News Free Press. He has grown since then with clientele range from Atlanta, Ga., Fla. and up North. His creation can be worn to church but not limited to the status quo. You can wear his hats to wedding, special events as well. Also, his hats can be worn with a suit or compliment your dress. You can never go wrong with his selections. Again, ladies we have pulled away from wearing hats, but the truth of the matter is hats are as important as the outfit. It compliments everything about you, your personality, style and mojo. You stand taller, stride better. I am anxiously waiting for what he will have me model for him next. I am honor to have MJ’s Expressions with us. Check out Dressing in the South and will see what I mean. MJ’s Expressions will have its own section entitled “Hats Galore” in May/ June issue. I am looking forward to working with each individuals mentioned. Let us show some love and support. Thanks

Chrise Corner “I can do all things through Jesus Christ that strengthen me.” Philippians 4:13 This is my personal bible verse that gets me through what comes my way

Dreams? What are your dreams? Do you dare to act upon your dreams? What are they? Dream house, a career, traveling out of the country, or starting your own business. The first step is to recognize your passion. The passion from your heart. Secondly, is this dream reachable? Yes, it is. Next, act on it. Make a plan. A plan that involve six months to year basis. You want to start slow and work up to your strategy instead of making a long goal of three to five year plan and not obtaining this plan which will only frustrate you. God did not give us the SPIRIT OF FEAR! Let me say that again, God did not give us the SPIRIT OF FEAR. Even though, the human nature side of us makes us feel intimidated at times because of being scare of failure. I understand this concept. No one wants to fail nor be known as a failure. That why we sometimes do not live up to our fullest potenial that God has for us.

Think for a minute about this. If you do not try to manifest your dream, how will you know what you are capable of doing. If you do not try, you are placing yourself in the category of limiting yourself. A place of I should have ...., only if I had .... If you fail, learn from that and try again. This is the only way to improve skills. To master your goals. If there is a perfect plan there would be no room for improvement. Allow me to lead by example. There have been several different individuals at different times of my life that told me modeling may not be my calling for whatever reason they may have thought. My response each time was a smile and a simple okay from my lips. I did not give up. I worked at my passion by modeling in

fashion shows, by coordinating fashion shows, and being a photography model. But I am still learning. I never thought I would be launching my own magazine. I wanted to be in this certain magazine, but when I sent in pictures I would not hear from them. So, another avenue was brought to my attention by the grace of God and I give him the praise and glory. What if I had listen to those individuals who told me to chalk it up. I would have missed out on a blessing. God always has something in store for all of us. We have to be openminded and listen for that faint voice. All I’m saying is, be patient with yourself, faith-bound and go get what God has for you! At least you can say I did try instead of what if. Love ya!

What calms your soul? For me, it is water. In this photo shoot hearing the sound of water relieves all my thoughts. The background is beautiful and the different colors pull you in as if you are in a tropical environment for the time being. The water splashing against the rocks gives me a little peace of mind however, for others it may be a bathtub full of water with tea light surrounding the outer surface. It may be music. Whatever the case may be we all need some type of outlet for ourselves to make it through our daily struggles. Try to find your inner soul getaway. In the mean time, as we enter into the month of March, remember Easter is the last week of March. Remember what Easter is all about just like Christmas. Remember what he went though for you and me. Keep praying and looking up to the hill from where our help comes from.

Month of March is HIV/ AIDS Awareness There is an alarming number of HIV/AIDS cases here in the city of Chattanooga according to the ChattanoogaHamilton County Health Department. I was fortunately to hear about the month of March awareness from two friends. I received a statistic chart indicating different parts of the county that has the number of cases in the county such as Harrison 18 cases, Soddy Daisy 61 cases, Chattanooga 178 cases, North Chattanooga 106 cases, East Brainerd 140 cases, Brainerd 182 cases, St. Elmo 19 cases, McCallie 167 cases and Dowtown 76 cases just to name a few. Total number of HIV/AIDS cases a of December 31,2010 equaled 1479. I am in no way an expert in this field. I just want to make every one aware of the danger and seriousness of this illness. I did do some research from WebMD and this is what found. Many people do not develop symptoms after getting infected with HIV. Some people have a flu-like illness within several days to weeks after exposure to the virus. They complain of fever, headache, tiredness, and enlarged lymph glands in the neck. These symptoms usually disappear on their own within a few weeks. Next, following initial infection, you may have no symptoms. The progression of disease varies widely among individuals. This state may last from a few months to more than 10 years. During this period, the virus continues to mulity actively and infects and kills the cells of the immune system. The immune system allows us to fight against the bacteria, viruses, and other infectious causes. Also, the virus destroys the cells that are the primary infection fighters, called CD4+ or T4 cells. Once the immune system weakens, a person infected with HIV can develop the following symptoms Lack of energy Weight loss Frequent fevers and sweats Persistent or frequent yeast infections Persistent skin rashes or flaky skin Short-term memory loss Mouth, gential or anal sores from herpes infections Keep in mind you could have flu-like symptoms and it is actually the flu. So don’t be to alarm but take care of your body and yourself. For more information go to www.webmd.com

From the desk of

Pastor Jefferson

YOU GET WHAT YOU LOOK FOR I was glad when they said to me, “let us go into the house of the Lord”-Psalm 122:1 A man who went to church grumbled about the hypocrites he saw, the mistakes the soloist made, the way the offertory was played, and the content of the pastor’s sermon. A friend in the same service said he left with a joyful heart. Each experienced the truth of the words: “What you look for is what you get” In Psalm 122. David recalled the gladness he had felt when his companions invited him to accompany them to a religious festival in the temple at Jerusalem (vv.1,2). He spoke of the sense of oneness he experienced there with people from all the tribes (vv 3-). He urged his readers to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. He longed for the good of all the people (vv. 6-8). But as his thoughts focused on Jerusalem as the location of the temple, which represented the dwelling place of God, he pledged himself to seek its prosperity (v.9). His whole attitude was positive.

Although there may have been hypocrites in the temple. David was not concerned with them. If he had been preoccupied with some fault in the priests’ performance of their tasks or mistakes the musicians made, he would have missed the joy of true worship. But he went looking for fellowship with believers and with God, and that’s what he found. Yes, we get what we look for. GO TO CHURCH TO WORSHIP, NOT WHISPER TO COMMUNE, NOT TO CRITICIZE.

Unleash the ANIMAL in you Tiger, cheetah, and lion prints! We all have a little animal in us all. What yours? My personal favorite is the cougar. Have you ever been to the zoo? Of course you have, but have you really watched the movement of these jungle beasts. Cougars are the most beautiful creatures and their eyes are so fascinating. I had the occasion to observe a cougar walk around in it pit at a zoo. They don’t gallop, they stride in slow motion. I’ve been told the same thing that I glide when I am modeling for a fashion show. Cougars are so sleek and graceful. There is something else the cougar and I have in common we both are solitary and secretive animals. A female cougar average about 25% smaller than the male which weighs is 140 pounds approximately. Cougars will watch their prey for a while before attacking. Their strategy is to watch them with an intense burst of energy to take down their food with their paws. Cougars vary in color from reddishbrown to tawny to gray, with a black tip on their long tail. The body movement of a cougar walking is sexy. Another association with the gorgeous species is society likes to say the mature woman likes dating younger men. Next, there is a sitcom on TV. known as cougar town. Nevertheless, I know my animal looka-like is the cougar and that’s what I am. That’s my final answer, Regis. (just kidding).

Lebron James, Heat unimpressed after 16 wins By Tim Reynolds, Associated Press / March 7, 2013

MIAMI LeBron James drove to the rim and scored on Miami’s final play, winning a game in memorable fashion and preserving the Heat’s winning streak that has lasted for five weeks. Still, the Heat are not impressed by, well, themselves these days. For Miami, 16 playoff wins are the goal — not a 16-game winning streak during the regular season. To the Heat, the regular season is an 82-game tuneup for the challenges that await in April, May and they hope, June — when they’ll try to win the 16 postseason games needed to successfully defend their NBA championship. And that’s why even buzzer-beating wins aren’t sending the Heat locker room into a celebratory frenzy right now. “We’re enjoying it,” Heat forward Shane Battier said, “but we have bigger goals.” James scored with 3.2 seconds left on Wednesday night, lifting Miami to a 97-96 win over the Orlando Magic. Miami’s 16th straight victory gave the Heat a 7½-game lead over the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference standings, an 11½-game cushion over the Atlanta Hawks in the Southeast Division and put the reigning champions in line to clinch their playoff spot on Friday — in just the 60th game of the season. Miami plays at home against Philadelphia on Friday, and a win would match the 12th-longest winning streak in NBA history.

No, the Heat don’t care much about that, either. “It really doesn’t affect us,” Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. “In a sense, we want to win, and we want to win every game we play. The day it comes where our streak gets broken we move on to the next game. Obviously, it is great, when you look back at it one day and say ‘Oh, we won that many games in a row.’ But right now, we are just playing.” Not just playing — playing better than any team in Heat history, at least statistically. The previous franchise record for a winning streak was 14 games. During this 16-game run, there have been blowouts, doubleovertime thrillers and now buzzer-beating victories. Miami has outscored opponents by an average of 11.5 points per game during the streak, and James and Wade have been nothing short of brilliant throughout the run.

Chrise’s Precious Angel

Ms. Aulondrelle

and I have had the pleasure of modeling with each other at fashion shows here in the city. She has always been in my presence a quiet young lady but easy to make laugh. I can tell she enjoys being around the modeling atmosphere. Recently, I caught up with Mimi as she likes to be called by her nickname. Our interview went like this:

1. How did you get interest in modeling? I started modeling as a hobby and realized I really enjoyed the experiment. 2. How long have you been modeling? I have been modeling for four years now and seeking the opportunity to continue on this path. 3. What goals are you searching in terms of the future with your modeling career? I want to reach out to mature people to help them realize no matter what age you are you can still look good. 4. What type of modeling have you done during your four years? Fashion shows, photography, and runway

5. What if you were to receive a phone call to do a photo shoot? Who would you want that person or business contact to be? And why? Tyra Banks, because she knows what it takes to be a model. You know what! Mimi answers are simple, and straight to the point. You can’t get confuse with her responds (laughing) I like that! Thanks Mimi for taking the time to spend with me and hope you the best in your career. Always good to see you.

Model’s Etiquette Tips

• Please always come to your fashion show practice or modeling job on time. You do not want to be the reason the fashion show or photo shoot has been delayed. Try to learn to leave early enough so you can arrive ten to fifteen minute early. In doing so, this act places a good impression on you as well as dependability. • When modeling in a fashion show and you are wearing a designer outfit. Please use precaution by using unscented bath products, unscented deodorant and unscented lotion. Keep in mind you are using someone else belonging plus you do not want to stain the designer’s fabric. Secondly, you do not want to put yourself in a situation where you will be paying for stained clothing. Giving in account how much it could cost. Not a pretty sight for your pocket! BE CAREFUL. • At last, please watch your behavior. You have heard the saying “be seen and not heard” meaning be quiet. Designers and fashion show coordinator have staff to handle the whole show. Don’t get me wrong, do not let no one run over you, however, use tactics if you must say something or don’t say anything at all and let your agent handle the matter. Saying something could cause you to get fired or have a hard time getting another modeling job. In being quiet, you could learn what’s going on behind the scene.

Chattanooga Fire Department Assistant Resource Chief Randy Jacks As we go about our busy lives, going to and from work, sending our children to school, working with co-workers though out the day. We hear and pay no attention to the sirens that scream though out the downtown or residual area on a daily basis. We hear the sirens while trying to get to our destination in our cars and get road rage in having to pull over to the side of the road. We are quick to call fire station to our rescue to save our homes, boats, and cars at any given time. Plus we want them there at a timely manner. But have we ever stopped to think about the needs of our Chattanooga Firefighters.

This is where I had the pleasure of interviewing Assistant Resource Chief Randy Jacks of the Chattanooga Fire Department. He and his staff are the backbone to each fight station that is in need of supply. His demeanor is meek, quiet and he speaks with a soft tone. However, when it comes to his position, he knows it backward and forward. He’s very passion about his job. I asked Chief Jack how he became a firefighter. He smiled sheepishly and said I wish it was glamorous the way I began my career, but it was not, I needed a job to take care of the needs of four children. As of Oct 23,

1987, he has been with the fire department for 26 years of his career. I think it safe to say he has fed his children and some! For the last 10 years of his career his title is Assistant Fire Chief Resource. What all does this title of Assistant Fire Chief Resource entails? There are 19 fire stations to be exact. Chief Jacks oversees several requests from different fire station needing anything from eating utensils, cleaning products to the purchase of a new fire truck. In other words, fire fighters d clean up their station just like we clean our homes.

What interesting is he makes two trips a year to Lion, South Dakota to inspect and purchase new fire truck that we see flying around the city. A fire truck can cost anywhere from half-million to one million dollars depending on what is being put on the truck. Speaking of fire truck, have you notice when a medical call has been made it is the fire fighter who come first. Why? Firefighter can do most of the same procedure as medical ambulance. Also, I asked what advises would he give to an individual who wants to enter into field of the fire department. His response is, first enter into EMT school, secondly, be physically fit and if you are accepted you will be required to complete 26 ½ weeks of training. But read this, he is responsible for the fire fighter SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) which help the fire fighter breath as they go into fire hazard building and homes. His personal life is just as busy as his work life. He has

GUN VIOLENCE Is this the world we live in now? U.S. Rep. Gabrella Giffords, Sandy Hook Elementary School students, Hadiya Pendleton and many more lives that has been taken due to unnecessary tragedies. When is the killings going to be enough? Will it be enough when weapons falls into the wrong hands and go after a committee member of the NRA or his/her family member. Will gun violence stop if this was to happen? I hope this never happen. But things would change quickly when it hit home! Yes, I understand the Constitution saying to bear arms. However, I do not feel when the Constitution was taking place, our forefathers was speaking of

been married to Deborah for 19 years (WOW), 4 kids and 7 grandchildren with one on the way. He has a red fire helmet hanging in his office that is retired with the number 648 (old fire investigator call number). The year 2000, he was the first African American to finish the captain exam first. His maintenance department was honor as being the top maintenance department in the city by Mayor Ron Littlefield, Dec. 13th, 2006.

killing innocent lives. This situation is a two-head coin. Citizens of this country should have the option to bear arms to protect their family as well as their property. What I do not understand how weapons get into the hands of mentally-illed indivduals but by the parents or the street without an extensive background check. I am hoping Congress and Mr. Eric Holder will put into place an extensive background check on people who are trying to buy weapon. An article was written in the “Timesfreepress, Sunday, February 10,2013, implicating an effective way to control gun usage is to have the State Prosecutor have stricter punishment over indivduals who are felony offenders. Okay, thats all and well. But everyone is not a felony criminal. Was the shooter who went on a shooting spree at the movie theatre in Ct. a felon. What about the indivdual who shot a 14 year old student at Price Middle School in Southeast Atlanta, was he a felon? It goes on and on. There are alot of unanswered questions that seriously need to be answered. At the end of the day, people who are law-abiding citizens who have a permit to go arm will feel the heat of stricter laws on gun control then any other person.

Scenic City Sights W. Tyler Thomas

Chattanooga, Tennessee is often not thought of by travelers as a place to stop and take in the sights. In fact, travelers are more likely to pass right around Tennessee’s fourth largest city on the freeway out to their destination. Oh, what people miss! Being known as the “Scenic City” isn’t just talk, it is fact. For out of town individuals, who wish to verify such a moniker, where would they go? What would they see? If you want to make a solid impression on the sights, there is no better place start than at the heart of the city itself, in downtown Chattanooga. Park just off Frazier Avenue at Coolidge Park and be prepared to see some incredible sights. The park itself is anchored with a carousel, so if you are traveling with a child, nothing more than a simple go-round is what it takes to bring out the smiles. Walk down to the river’s edge that borders the park and take in the sight of the flowing Tennessee River. Too close? Don’t wish to get wet? Just stroll right over towards the entrance of the park to cross the famous Walnut Street Bridge. You will see a smattering

of Chattanoogans of all types. Joggers, people walking with dogs, cyclists, even street musicians; all are taking in the surrounding sights of the bridge. Hovering right over the Tennessee River, nothing could be more panoramic or inviting. For an added visual aid, visit just after sunset to catch the orange hue of the dwindling sun and the early stars of evening. After crossing the Walnut Street Bridge ( the length of the bridge is actually a full half mile!) abscond up to the Hunter Art Museum on the rock bluff just to the left of the bridge. The viewing deck beside the museum offers a different angle of the river alongside a historic tree line that gives visitors a truer sense of just how appreciative Chattanooga is of its history. Feeling hungry or thirsty? Across from the museum is the Bluff View District that offers light gourmet fare alongside specialty drinks. But what if such views on the ground at Coolidge, or suspended above the Tennessee River don’t let you see it all?

What if you desire just one more eclipsing view? Look no further than atop Lookout Mountain. Located just across from downtown, in southwest Chattanooga, it is the largest mountain in the city ( Lookout Mountain was even mentioned in Martin Luther King’s famouse “I have a dream...” speech!). A quick five minute drive to the top to Lookout Mountain park is the pinnacle of the city. Park, step out from your car, and take it the city from its highest point. The view from Lookout is second to none and sure to please any sightseer to Chattanooga. And if that view isn’t enough for someone to marvel at, suggest they travel back along the mountain brow to Rock City where they can scale to a small observation point and see seven states! That should definitely satisfy.
