ear junctionites,
By the time you read this, winter will well be on its way out and we will have embraced spring. Also, Mr Arun Jaitley will be feverishly preparing to present a crucial Budget on February 28. It will be the first full-fledged budget for the new government as the economy is still taking baby steps towards recovery. The government will also be under tremendous pressure to now prove that it is indeed pro-growth, pro-investment and protransparency. Talking of which brings me to the topic of e-auctions, which have been mjunction’s area of core competency ever since inception, and which ensures a fair and transparent bidding process. The government’s Department of Telecommunications has awarded a three-year contract to mjunction for e-auction of telecom bands. mjunction was chosen through an open tendering process, and was the only company which cleared the technical round and qualified for the financial bids. I believe it is a responsibility with national significance and I am happy that the competencies we have built over the last decade have been recognised by the government. I also cannot say enough about the advantages of a transparent process while appointing a service provider in all government projects. In this context, the government’s decision to move an Ordinance to amend the MMDR Act is something I endorse
wholeheartedly. The Ordinance proposes to bring in e-auction as the sole mechanism for allocation of all mining leases. Both these put together augurs well for mjunction. I am hopeful that a transparent tendering process along with e-auctions will mean good times ahead for us. Our book is another thing I want to talk to you about. “Intrapreneurs@mjunction” saw the light of day in Kolkata, very aptly, as this was the city from where mjunction embarked on its eventful journey more than a decade ago. It encapsulates this journey and the essence of mjunction’s growth trajectory. For me, at a very personal level, “Intrapreneurs @mjunction” is a labour of love and a matter of pride. It has been a privilege to have been associated with mjunction from day one as I believe it marked a watershed in the e-commerce history of India. It was an innovation from the word go, with two competitors coming together to take advantage of the Internet. Subsequently, mjunction took rapid strides and has a lot of firsts to his credit. The book has captured beautifully how one innovation led to another, all the time with technology at its backbone. The journey has not always been smooth. On the contrary, it has been fraught with severe challenges at times, the first of them being the dotcom bust as soon as we were born. We braved it, however, and came out stronger and even more determined to make a success of the little life. Today we are only about 14 years old and yet we feel we have come a long way. mjunction for me is nothing short of a dream and I believe we have had a dream run this far. On my behalf I dedicate it to everyone who has ever been a junctionite. At some point when so many milestones were happening, we all felt this is a story which had to be told. Dr Rajeev Kumar, a senior Tata Group corporate communicator, on his part left no stone unturned in capturing the essence of what mjunction stood for and how supply chains were cleaned up through competitive bidding. What made the formal inauguration really special was the august presence of Dr Amit Mitra, the suave and erudite finance, IT and Industry minister of West Bengal. Despite his busy schedule and the Global Bengal Business Summit which he was spearheading coming up in a day or two, he agreed to formally launch the book. He said he was there to “celebrate” entrepreneurship, and coming from him, that was indeed rewarding.
The beginning of 2015 was thus full of excitement for all of us at mjunction. Soon after the launch of the book, The Economic Times, the premier financial daily, carried a feature on the book and CNBC TV18 aired a feature on us on two consecutive January weekends. This is the last quarter of the financial year and time for us to take stock of our successes, failures, milestones and plans. My next message for you will be in the new year, and I want to end this one on a really positive note. The Charities Aid Foundation, a global non-profit, has said that India tops the charts globally when it comes to the largest number of voluntary givers. And nearly 18.65 crore people in India support non-profits in different ways. We can indeed hold that thought till next time. Regards,
