Ahead of the festive season, clothes were distributed to villagers of Kalapathar and Barikul in Bankura district of West Bengal. Junctionites responded overwhelmingly to this drive and contributed spontaneously.

The Sunderbans in West Bengal is a unique biosphere reserve of mangrove forests spread across more than a hundred islands. It is also home to almost four-and-a-half million people living in abject poverty, chronic deprivation and acute suffering from climatic adversities.

The inhabitants mostly live in abject poverty, struggling for survival and combating natural calamities, which leads to trafficking and child labour. As a result, education has been neglected as children are involved in income generation activities. Identifying this need, ejunction, in collaboration with Ramkrishna Mission Lokashiksha Parishad, runs an Early Childhood Development Programme across 12 centres in West Bengal. These centres focus on inculcating the schoolgoing habit among children and primary orientation of basic literacy. Early awareness of environment, habitat and hygiene are the other focus areas. This is supplemented by promotion of cultural values from their early ages.

Eight of these Early Childhood Development Centres are running under Mayer Sangsar in Hingalgunj, North 24-Parganas and four in South 24-Parganas.

The centres run six days a week, between 7 am and 10 am in the morning, and every centre has 25 children and two local women as teachers. ejunction provides learning material along with other requisites such as cooking utensils, as well as meals for students three times in a week. Health check-up of all students and all regular vaccination programmes are also part of this project.

Breathtaking Splendour... Piya Nandi's lens captures the wild magnificence of waterfalls around India - plunging and gushing frothily down rocky mountains. The grandeur and appeal of each frame is unique and exquisite.
