MK: How is the fashion scene where you are? DN: The fashion scene in North Texas is conservative compared the east coast (NY, D.C, etc..), you have those who are true to their Texas roots and a few who are more fashion forward, but overall the fashion scene here is a bit conservative. With a lot of transplants moving from the east coast and the west coast, the fashion scene is beginning to change and diversify, which is great to see.

MK: What cities or countries are you interested in exploring your craft? DN: We?re interested in exploring everywhere. We are of Ghanaian descent, so we have strong African roots, which is a big part of our style and our culture. We also love to travel and explore other cultures as well so we?re always looking for opportunities to have a global impact.

MK: Why did you agree to be featured in Mkovah Magazine? DN: We needed a platform to be seen and to reach a wider audience. We resonate with the magazine?s motto, which is ?inspired by those who reinvent themselves.? We are always looking to collaborate with like minded brands and Mkovah was a great opportunity to showcase what we offer.

MK: What inspires you about being a business owner?

AA: I have never wanted to make someone else rich by working for them, so I decided to work towards making myself rich.

MK: What got you started as a designer? AA: I have always been a creative person. So, it was a no-brainer to get into a field that allowed me to create. I love seeing women in my designs. I also love creating a vision when a woman is photographed in my garments.

MK: Tell us the story behind your line? AA: The A. Ahni woman is a classy, confident, independent business woman, who knows her worth. I wanted to portray a woman who embraces her femininity, but at the same time, she is a powerhouse. She?s the boss of the organization but, also this down to earth, relatable woman. Clothes have a way of making people feel a certain way and the way I want any woman to feel, when she puts on my clothes is beautiful, sexy, and powerful.

MK: What has been your personal observation concerning the fashion industry? AA: The fashion industry is a very image driven industry. If you are outside of that image then you will most likely hit challenges. This image usually consist of being a certain body size, driving a certain kind of car, having a certain kind of handbag and shoes, knowing the ?right? people etc. In my opinion, this side of the industry is not very pretty. M K: What inspires you about being a business owner? CS: Being a business owner is equivalent to freedom. Being in control of my creations and time spent to create my art wear is indeed, priceless. There?s the satisfaction in knowing that my visual testimony is my legacy to the world. I get lost in my work for hours in the studio; marveled by what I am blessed to sculpt with a line of wire. It is a message in the metal that can be adorned. M K: What got you started as a custom designer?

M K: What are some personal goals or challenges you have achieved? CS: The biggest challenge I have overcome by far has all been health related. I battle with SLE Lupus, and I am a five-year heart transplant survivor. The goal for me for the past twenty plus years has been to survive what was dealt. My ongoing goal is to create a body of work that serves a purpose, and gives a semblance of hope, inspiration, and a reflection of the human spirit?s capacity to overcome any circumstance.

CS: I started creating custom art wear after using copper to create my own healing metal jewelry. Copper is an anti-inflammatory metal used in many utilitarian items today; including vitamin supplements. It helps with arthritic symptoms and circulatory issues; which is part of my battle with Lupus. Creating copper jewelry is my self-prescribed art therapy. I?ve always loved creating thematic pieces of art and found accessories as another way to express myself. Most of my custom designs are of my own making; though I do create pieces to order. Large theatrical pieces are my favorite.

M K: Tell us about some memorable moments as a custom designer? CS: Some memorable milestones include: art feature on Good Morning Texas; collaborated NYFW2014 with designer Linda Rowe Thomas; 2015 accessory winner for A.I.N. (Accessories In The Nude); Cover

M K: What are your inspirations that define your custom designing?

CS: The inspiration behind my designs stems from my heart organ donor. Without his sacrifice, this body of artwork wouldn?t exist. It is my desire to create a legacy of work for our families to see what we achieved together as Two souls/One heart.

COVER M ODEL MK: What inspires you about being a model? KB: Since I was little I have always looked up to the men and women in Magazines that looks so glamorous and exceptionally fit. I strive to look great always, and have tried to live a healthy lifestyle to be more like the models I have grown up with, even before I knew I wanted to be a model. MK: How did you feel to be selected as a Cover Model for Mkovah magazine? KB: It is such a big deal for me since this is my first cover. I have been in the industry only a few months, but now I want to shoot more and get better in my craft. MK: Tell us what defines you personally? KB: I think it's my perseverance. When I make up my mind I am willing to move almost any mountain in order to achieve my goal. A friend of mine told me that I burn ships, because when I have a goal there is no Plan B, the only path is to eventually succeed. MK: What are some personal goals or challenges you have achieved? KB: I always try to challenge myself in life. I wanted to learn English in a high level back when I was living in Ukraine, and was spending all my free time and nights to achieve this goal. The biggest goal was to become professional ironman athlete in less then a year. And I did it and that actually helped me to come to America as a professional athlete. MK: What makes you unique? (please be specific) KB: I think the biggest thing that makes me unique is that although I spend countless hours on being the very best person I am, including the grace that goes with that, I am also a humble down to earth girl that is sometimes clumsy and goofy. When I lived in Cozumel, I had a close friend tell me that I have found and tripped over every imaginary rock on the island.

MK: Tell us about some memorable moments of your modeling ambitions? KB: Well my dad is a photographer, and I invited him down for my first full ironman and got him a press pass to shoot the event. At the time I was trying to get a sponsorship with Trek so when I got to the bike and saw my dad ready to shoot I tried to get that perfect picture by pushing really hard. I pushed so hard that as I passed my dad I needed a quick break and dropped my head gasping for air...and that is when my dad took the shot. I did not get picked up but the picture turned out to be the best...totally unexpected, and iconic. MK: How is the modeling and fashion scene where you are from? KB: I was not really into modeling in Ukraine. I finished model agency when I was 15 years old and did not really like the fact that in order to sign up a contract with an agency they required me to pay for the shoot with their photographer? .I think it wasn?t fair. MK: What cities or countries are you interested in exploring your craft? KB: I really love traveling and would like to have contracts in Thailand, China, New Zealand, Australia. MK: Why did you agree to be featured in Mkovah Magazine? KB: I like the style and mood of Mkovah magazine. The fact that they don?t feature any designer, model or photographers makes it different and unique. You have to be good at what you do in order to be featured in this magazine.
