The qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards for Playwork and has been developed for Early Years practitioners who would like to broaden their knowledge of working in play settings.
As an employer, you know that Ofsted requires at least one staff member in a Playwork or out-of-school care setting to hold a relevant Level 3 qualification.
The units cover the theories and principles of play and playwork and how to support the needs and rights of children to create diverse, inclusive play environments. They also cover how to support children and young people to manage risk, establishing and maintaining links with other organisations and individuals, and organisational frameworks.

When a child or young person is being cared for outside of school hours, they benefit from a different style of care which helps them to learn and socialise through play, instead of through structure.

SkillsActive has secured funding from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to help meet skills gaps in Playwork in England and is looking for playworkers to take advantage of the offer of 50% match funding towards the Level 3 Award in Transition to Playwork (from the Early Years industry). City College Norwich is leading a national network of providers to deliver the programme across England. Employers will need to pledge at least £229 towards the cost of the qualification to enable this to be matched by government funding via the Joint Investment Programme.
2. Eligibility criteria are as follows: Students must be employed in a childcare or early years setting AND must hold either a L3 CCLD, L3 Early Years or L3 Diploma in Pre-School Practice. Regretfully, if you hold any of the following you are not eligible:L1/ L2 CCLD; L1/L2 Early Years; L1/L2/L3 Childhood Studies; NNEB; L3 Children & Young People’s Workforce Diploma.
ActivePassport. All computer literate students are expected to maintain a record of their learning on their ActivePassport account through-out the course. Once the 12 month free subscription has expired, students can continue using ActivePassport for £10 a year if they would like.
3. The L3 Playwork Transition Award is only available during 2012, for start dates up to 31st December 2012. All study must be completed by 31st July 2013
