Elementary School Capacity Assessment
5 April 2016
Context Throughout the 2014-2015 school year, the Board engaged in multiple public meetings with staff regarding school capacity and enrollment growth. In light of those conversations, options for addressing and accommodating projected increases in student enrollment over the next few years were presented and discussed with the Board, and ultimately the Board gave direction on short and medium term solutions to accommodate potential enrollment growth. Short Term Strategy - COMPLETED - Used existing alternate us spaces for TK-5 instruction Medium Term Strategy - IN PROGRESS - planning addition of two portable classrooms at LeConte Elementary; Partial consolidation of transitional kindergarten at an existing preschool site Long Term Strategy - BEING EXPLORED - Does the District need a new school?
Question for tonight’s discussion: Does the board want to give staff direction to return in March with more information regarding a new school?
Knowns Enrollment Relatively low enrollment growth projected through the 2018-19 school year.
