TIMBER IN THE CITY This project was completed for a competition held in New York. The competition consisted of design plans for a multi-use mass timber high rise on the southeast side of the east river. The goal was to create a building with a functional recreation center, elementary school, and residential space. The major challenges with the site were how to provide views to the residential units. The site was so small that the building needed to be around 30 stories tall and so natural lighting was difficult to incorporate. Because of the scale of the project and height limit restrictions, it was also difficult to avoid creating a canyon in the center of the structure. To address this issue, varying tower elevations were created to allow for light penetration.

One of the major focuses of the project was to create a healthy lifestyle for the residents. Incorporating the riverfront park into the project was an effort made to encourge healthy living. This was accomplished by pulling green spaces into the structure itself.
OUTDOOR PAVILLION For this project we were given the assignment to place 50 dots on a page and then connect each dot to every other dot. From the web of lines that we created, we were asked to generate a structure that incorporated each of the lines as either primary or secondary structure or other elements of construction.

ASU DESIGN SCHOOL The focus of this project was the rennovation of a parking garage in downtown Phoenix as the new location for the ASU design school. One of the major challenges of the site was the heat load on the southern facade. In order to address this issue, my structure was designed to include shading relative to sun exposure. I found local materials that could be reclaimed to create this facade, in order to reduce cost and to demonstrate the reclaiming of the site. Another issue we encountered was how to incorporate the historic building that was located adjacent to the parking garage. To utilize this historic space we repurposed it for office space and created a terrace on the roof.

SALEM HOME As a collaborative effort I and several other students participated in the design and literal construction of this home, starting with foundation and concrete work and ending with finished carpentry.
