GENERAL REMARKS. Th.e Teachers' Seminary of Dr. Martin Luther College at New Ulm, Minn., was organized in 1893 under a resolution of the General Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Wisconsin Minnesota, Michigan and other States. It is supported by voluntary contributions from the congregations belonging to that body. The organization of the Seminary was prompted by the necessity of supplying Luthern parochial schools in the Northwest with competent teachers, and this consideration primarily governs the selection of bra¡nches to be taught, and the determination of the ends to be attained. At the same time, the courses of our lower classes are so arranged that they afford preparatory training fully equal to that offered in classical colleges. Pupils who pass through classes F, E and D, ought to be able to take up the study of Greek on entering a college where they, can complete their course. Formerly, the institution also embraced a business de partment which offered special training in book-keeping, type-writing, shorthand and commercial law to all pupils whose aim was to prepare for work in the commercial line. This department, however, was abolished in the summer of 1901 by a resolution of the General Synod who decided to replace it by a sixth class added to the normal course. But this act did not change the character of our preparatory classes, except by widening their adaptability to pupils of various degrees of preparation. These classes still constitute an excellent high-school where young people find an op¡ portunity of perfecting their general education. We clairn a positive superiority for our school on the ground that the entire government of the pupils and all instruction is of a distinctly Christian character. The several courses are open both to young men and young women. A limited number of young men can find board and lodging in the college building at the rate of $2 a week. Tuition will be charged at the rate of $4 a month for any course, excepting

•c Inmates of the college pay $10 a year extra for-fuel inuf1light· pupils living in town pay $3 a year for fuel. All ardents 'of the college are required to conform to all rules s regulations which are, or may be, established by the an faculty. . As our courses are la1'd out so as to contmue throughout the school-year, s:pecial arrangements for individual _µupils re possible only m so far as the regular program will per~iit. If satisfactory and lasting results are desired, it will be advisable to arrange for attendance of at least an entire school-year. A term of three months is certainly insufficient for high-school work. · The next fall term opens August 26, 1904; the winter term, January 6, 1904; the spring term, April 6, 1904. The school-year will close on June 14, 1904. All inquiries concerning the institution may be directed to the president,
