Dear Graduates: " ... that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light ... " These words of the Apostle Peter apply to all of us as Christians. But it is also a special prayer which we of the faculty have for you, the graduates. Whatever your eventual calling, whether it be in the public ministry or not, may our heavenly Father grant you the grace to show forth His praises in the way you live and conduct yourselves. And, as you know, the first and foremost way to show forth God's praise is to show praise and honor to His holy WORD. That means, above else, that we trust and accept his precious Gospel of salvation in Christ! Where God has blessed you with such childlike faith, all else will follow in showing "forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."

iU nder New Coach Waldo gets off another one of his fine punts.

Luther cheerleaders have spirit

The backbone of the Luther Rams team, Coach Lemke and his five seniors.

Coach Carl Lemke and team captain Ron Sosinski

With only five returning lettermen, our new coach, Carl Lemke, faced a big rebuilding job. Coach Lemke adopted a new spread formation with which he hoped to offset the lack of weight in the line. But inexperience was the most damaging factor to the team. Several of the boys had never played football before. All, however, was not lost. Although the Rams had been rated last in the Red Rock Conference by a local sportswriter who predicted a winless season for them, the team beat two foes and finished fourth in the conference. Special recognition must be given to Ron Sosinski and Walt Wendt, who were voted to the all-conference team. 31

Mark Brunner lays one up for the B Team.

Luther's basketball season was very disappointing this year. The Rams won two of the first five but could win only one of the last fourteen for a 3-16 record. Although the team was bolstered by four returning lettermen, they just couldn't click. They lost the ball many times on turnovers and were hurt on the boards. The emergence of Fred Wangerin as a rebounder helped. Although he made the starting team halfway through the season, he led the Rams in rebounds. Special recognition should be given to Fritz Horn, who made the all-tournament team at the Lakeside Invitational Tournament. The B Team had a successful season, winning eight out of fifteen contests. The ninth grade team won first place in the Walther High Tournament

Track Team Sends Two to State Ken breaks the tape to bring home victory in the mile.

On your mark!

The track team had another lean year this spring. Lacking speed in the dashes and depth in most of the other events, the Rams won only three of their meets. However, they finished third in the Martin Luther Academy Invitational. Individually, Phil Hoyer set a new pole vault record at 10' 6", and Bob Jensen and Marc Manthey qualified for the State Track Meet.

This could b e the big hit .

After suffering through many losing seasons, the baseball team finally came up with a winning record. Backed by four senior and three underclassmen veterans, the team reeled off six straight wins. However, weak hitting and lack of pitching depth caused the Rams to lose several key games, including the conference championship game. The team is looking forward to another good season next year.

This is the end of the 1969 RAMBLER. It has been much fun working on it. We, the yearbook staff, hope that you, the students of MLA, derive as much pleasure from reading this annual as we did in putting it together. In the future when you look back on your years at MLA by paging through your annual, we hope that it will serve to bring back pleasant memories. View this annual as a representation of our school in 1968-69. Special recognition should go to Prof. Duehlmeier for giving us the necessary guidance to make this annual a reality. Prof. Denninger also deserves our heartfelt thanks for being our chief photographer. Again, we would like to say thank you for giving us the privilege of working on the 1969 RAMBLER.
