I wanted to become someone who would try and help the next generation. In a predominantly German denomination, black leadership is minimal. So I decided to become a pastor to change the narrative. Plus, what’s better than working for Jesus every day?

Staff ministers are pastoral assistants who do a lot of work pastors do, but they are not trained preachers.

What drew me to staff ministry is that there are so many areas. You can do youth ministry, technology, music—staff ministry allows you to try a little bit of everything.

Sometimes I imagine sitting in heaven and seeing all the parents and students in whom God worked faith through the Word I spoke. To know I had even a small part in spreading the gospel message to them is the most incredible feeling!

GET YOUR MASTER’S DEGREE AT MLC TOO! YOURSELF?

Whatever your talent or interest, you can wrap it into a teaching ministry. And whether you’re teaching antsy 3-year-olds or 18-year-old honor students, you won’t only be teaching subject matter. You’ll also be TEACHING THE WORD OF GOD.

MLC MERIT AWARDS

Awarded to first-years who meet the GPA or ACT requirement. Renewable every year if cumulative college GPA requirement is met.

$6,000 National Merit Scholarship Requirement: National Merit Finalist standing (Recipients may also receive other GPA-based merit scholarships)

$4,000 Presidential Scholarship Requirement:

HS GPA of 3.9+ or ACT of 30+

$3,000 Messenger Scholarship Requirement:

HS GPA of 3.753.89 or ACT of 28-29

$2,500 Ambassador Scholarship Requirement:

HS GPA of 3.503.74 or ACT of 26-27

$1,500 Courier Scholarship Requirement:

Give MLC a try! The best piece of advice I could offer is to give MLC a try. Is MLC the right college for everyone? No. Are there any disadvantages that could come from trying it out? Also no. Even though you might learn that public ministry isn’t for you, you’ll still be encouraged to serve God’s kingdom in whatever you do! We’d love to have you on campus with us!
