Because he was responsible for initiating the movement to build a synodical school that would pRpare young men for service in the church. eliciting support frorn other sister congregation<. and ..,rving as the first president of the college. he truly des4'rves to be called th" father of the sc;hool DMLC originally coMisted of one building. today called Old Main Pictured in approximately 1885, this buildins has proved its usefulness to the college in an unbelievable number of waY> .

Until 1911, Old Main remained the

only building on campus. By that time, however, the gTowing enrollment necessitated the construction of a separate men's donnitory. Summit Hall thus began its long career of service to DMLC. A second building w.as also built In 1911 to serve as a campns chapel-

auditorium and music hall. This building, known as the Au.la then and the Music Hall now, had the capacity to seat 300 people for plays and concerts. Inside -re ten individual piano practice rooms and a balcony which hdd the pipe organ installed in 1914.

Women ...-ere not pumitted 10 &ttend DMLC until 1896. However, by 1920 there were alt~dy enough women in attend•nce to requlrt the dittcto('s i-lve room house to be con'll!rted into • women· s dormitory. Thi> first women'> dormitory wa. given the name Hill~t Hall

In commemorotion of the sevmtyfifth .mniv•r~ry of the W'tSCOnsin Synod, fund> were set aside for the construction of • new cU..room buildmg. The cornerstone for this building w~s laid in 1928. The expanding enrollment also highlighted the need for modem music facilities at DMLC. From the 1lme of Its dedicailon In 1962, rhe Mus.ic Ce:nl'et, -as it~ name implies,

becamâ&#x20AC;˘ the center of music on lhe college campus. while lhe Music Hall was forced to take a second row seat.

In order to accomodat• the evergrowing number of women on campus, another women's dormitory was needed. Hillview Hall's cornerstone ¥."as: laid in the summer of 1904 (top left), and students were able to move in the following school (tv11 dglll). OKLAHOMA! is a love story, which also portrays the rivalry between the fam>ers and the ranchers in the territory as it moved toward statehood. OKLAHOMA! was directed by Jim Henrickson; the production >taff wa> head<ld by Cindy Lehman. Ruth Dolbey, Dan Fenske, and Jenny Meyer; and Professor Hermanson and Jane Zimmerman ¥.>ere in charge of th~ music0tl pot· lion of th• show. Overall. OKLAHOMA! was enjoyed by everyone.
