In 2010, I had taken Marty Nikou’s art class and really enjoyed it. Then, in the past few years, my health has been a challenge with three surgeries and a chronic illness. Art was more than healing; it was something I needed to do and share.

POEM PART 1
One Day When I See You
Nomin BOLDBAYER
It’s weird that you miss people The people you weren’t that close to But you’d seen them often And you know a lot about them Like the way they walk To the way they smile I miss him Even though I grew up with him I wasn’t that close to him But I wish I was Everywhere I went He would be there I was special to him Sadly I didn’t feel the same way I cared about useless things Because of that, I missed my chance A chance to get to at least know him Never have I ever asked him About him or his story How pathetic of me that Everything I asked was selfish And was always about me I was his first ever granddaughter, and I’m sorry grandpa, I miss everything about you One day when I see you, I’ll ask you how your day was

Daniel Gonzalez Don't Hold Your Breath Suffocating. Where does freedom ring? Close my eyes, concentrate on breathing. One day singing, the next day writhing. One day living, another day dying. Choking, drowning, bleeding out. Gnashing, gnawing, hacking at the door. Watch the sweat pour on the floor, Mixed with drops of blood and tears, Crushed dreams and realized fears. Trapped in this room, forced to face doom For years and years. Clenched fists and bloody fingers. In the pitch black, hope still lingers, Breathe. Raw fists make freedom ring.

An Escape of Time When I think about the word time and what it means to me I think about how many hours are in a day and how many years And months have passed. When I think about the word time I think about The question how much is left? When will time ever stop? But then one day I thought about time in a new way, a different way I thought of time not as a bad reminder but as a good reminder to help Me to make the most of time and to enjoy it to spend time with my family And friends to spend time making good memories that will last a lifetime.

Janica marie pascua The Last Boss The thought creeps back in Like a lover coming home From the other woman Down the road, But it’s two In the morning And all you want to do Is sleep. But you can’t! You’re terrified Of the nightmares That are constantly Replaying Replaying Replaying Of you not existing And it terrifies you Not because of how it happens, But because For a split second You feel like it’s just The best Dream. Now you’re trying Not to cry And you have That stupid lump In your throat

And no matter How many times you’ve Swallowed It just won’t Go away. It won’t Go Away. Getting out of the bed At six in the morning Has never felt so Damn Difficult Until now. You’ve conquered it Countless times, But this thing is A beast. It’s the last boss That you just can’t seem to defeat No matter what gear Or amount of HP That you have. So, in turn You constantly have to face it Until it’s finally Over.
Sometimes the boss Isn’t as big As it is on other days And you can overcome it Easily. But you need to realize That at the end of it all You end up being Victorious Even if The battles seem like They’re impossible to beat. You are not a damsel. You are the damn king. The warrior. The guard out front. And this is your kingdom.
Alexa TELAN The Side Effect of Loving You I never once bothered with the sky it’s as fickle as emotions heavy gray clouds one second galaxies the next You gave me eyes for constellations as I watched you count the stars It’s the way you kept going even if you lost count I lose count too for every star is another reason to love you

“As I lay here waiting ... ” The inspiration for this shot was based on a book, Unfinished Portrait, by Mary Westmacott (Agatha Christie). It is about a girl who waits on love until nothing is left. This is my modern take of the 1930’s classic. The model’s name is Kelsey K. She owns a jewelry line by the name of Electric Ocean Jewelry and a hair salon named The Beauty Call Kauai. Kelsey is wearing a dress by a company named XIX Palms. This was a collaboration for the company’s online look-books. Being a promotional freelance photographer, my focus is to bring artisans of all realms to create magic of our own together and get clients, and, of course, friends while doing it.

Karly Yoshimura One I left behind Both of our eyes full of pain, hurt and anger Tears filled our eyes; our love and bitterness cloud the soul and mind Why oh why, can’t you see the hurt you’re putting on me I contemplate, the choice I’ve made I think about it, and know that I’ve lost the one I was close to I want to right the wrong I’ve done, but how can IWW Can’t you feel my heart breaking Knowing that I won’t be able to correct this hostility you hold towards me I cry in darkness, and wonder when I will be the way I used to be Happier times, stressed upon the pages of a notebook Pictures fill my mind, tears cloud my sight Only to find the best friend that I am forced to leave behind Forgive me, my dear If we’re to be apart, know that I am in your heart and you in mine I will be there for you, even if you think I’m not Please, don’t do this to me … I am lost without my best mate Help me get back on track, and keep the friendship I treasure in this lifetime 22 |

Don’t Let It Get The Better Of You Verse 1: You judge me by my over-reaction to what you say This isn’t me that everyone knows Take it for what it is, words that aren’t anything They tell me to let it go in one ear and out the other… Let me tell you this Chorus: So they say, every time she does it Don’t let it get the better of you Take it slow, and breathe Don’t let it get the better of you Maybe in the end it’ll turn out right
Chorus: So they say, every time she does it Don’t let it get the better of you Take it slow and breathe Don’t let it get the better of you Maybe in the end it’ll turn out right
Verse 3: Stubborn as all hell Words come flying out of your mouth Things you can take back, and sometimes Words you can’t always change and things you can’t undo Not going to lose myself again to Amanda’s rage
Verse 2: Stop making it like people don’t care We’re just trying to help you and bring you back to the way you were And sometimes you have to stop and just listen without saying a word Don’t tell me you love me, when you treat me the way you do Stop and put yourself in our situation…
Chorus: So they say, every time she does it Don’t let it get the better of you Take it slow, and breathe Don’t let it get the better of you Maybe in the end it’ll turn out right
Then you’ll understand and see how hard it is to be around you
