Wow it’s already January! We just got back from Christmas break, and we want to start out this year on a high note! We added two new writers to our journalism team one being Rylee Olson, and Christian Roston. They jumped right in and have been hard at work, much like our other writers. January didn’t have a theme, but we tried to focus on things we are passionate about which ranges from makeup, to the inauguration of incoming president Trump. I hope that you all enjoy this month’s issue, and please share with your friends. We want as many of our student body to read this as possible. If you ever have any feedback, it is always welcome. Student Hacks By: Kyndall Porter Many times as teenagers we find ourselves running around to be somewhere; we get caught at the school practice, and or extracurricular activities. Being a teenager around this area the “hangout” place would be at some fast-food restaurant. From getting breakfast in the morning, to hanging out after school, to dinner or a late night snack fast-food restaurants occupy some time. There always comes the parent’s aspect of the constant food runs, “you are spending too much money.” Even with the dollar menu it never seems to be cheap enough, So here is a solution for teens who spend a lot of time getting food and parents who think you are spending too much money. There are 14 restaurants that give student discounts if asked for. 1.

As we get older we are expected to start paying for your own things and the things that you want. Parents expect you to pay for gas, meals, possibly insurance, clothes, other accessories, gifts for special occasions, and anything you want for yourself, the list could go on forever. We come across a problem which is to have money you have to get it somehow; this would include getting a job. Getting a job is not an easy thing and can be very stressful. There are many things you can do to prepare for a job or interview. Here are some tips when trying to get a job or get ready for an interview. A good thing to do for both preparing for an interview is make sure that you are organized and have everything together, make sure that you can find things easily and are struggling to keep everything together. When Job hunting, don’t go alone, this is a good way to get a second opinion. If you have someone who can listen to what management tells about the job you then can sit down and talk about what you and the second opinion think would work best. A good way to show that you appreciate the time that people take to help you find a job is to write thank-you notes to businesses you visited; this is very rarely done but is very respectable and kind. Just always remember that when looking for a job to never stress because there will be something to fit your needs!

Friends are vital to our life, but they are not always going to be there forever. Your family is despite how you may feel towards your family, will always be there for you. As a junior I look back, and I wish I had involved them a little more than I did, it would’ve avoided a lot of fights, and heart breaks, and tears that I had to hide because I wasn’t open with them. Also if there is ever anything that you need to talk about that you don’t feel comfortable talking about to your family, make sure to stop in and speak to our conselors they are amazing people, who do care about you! By: Sammantha Thorpe I am a junior here in the halls of Reed’s Spring high school. I have been here since kindergarten, and must say living in a small town has its perks, but also a few downfalls. I know that as a female we all have our close group of girlfriends who we run to in a blink of an eye for advice, to vent, or to boast about any acheivement that you may have accomplished. If we get an A on our final, we run to these girls. If we are fighting with another girl you confide in these girls. If we go through a break up we depend on these girls. As a teenager we often pour ourselves into our friends, opposed to our families. Often times I look back to my freshman year of highschool and laugh, I find it sad that I poured 100% of my heart into my friends, and not my family. I know I needed to keep my family close, but I always wanted my friends closer. I felt like the students that went day-to-day by my side would understand on a greater scale than my parents ever could. I was ever so wrong. I was misled by the idea that a girl my own age could give me all the answers I desired when I was in a difficult situation, or when I was excited to share my accomplishments. My friend group consisted of about five girls. I had so much trust in those girls, that I pushed my family’s trust out the door. My freshman adivce is not to make friends, because lets face it, without our friends highschool career would be boring and nearly impossible to complete. My point here is that if you have a family at home that is willling to

Staff Opinion By: Christian Roston “Everything here is done on such a massive scale. Even the grocery stores are huge.” My friend elaborated on his impression of life in the US in comparison to that in Australia. Waterskiing is without a doubt the most enjoyable activity in which I partake during the summer. One of the many perks of competitive skiing is the people one can encounter, as well as the skills there are to ascertain. This summer however, I personally had the privilege of meeting 3 world class teenage skiers from Australia. (They’re specifically obsessed with guns. Never give an Australian a gun). I asked them many questions as this was their first trip to the states. One thing that was extremely apparent was their fascination with the size and sheer prosperity of our culture. They would name off every American pop star they knew and I couldn’t name even one popular Australian singer. I was astonished at their unwavering respect for the culture we live in. I myself was more appalled than astonished at how much they knew about my country, and how little I knew about theirs. My friends present in the room felt the same. We were embarrassed of our ignorance to Australian culture. The appalling basic fact is that Americans are extraordinarily uninformed of what is currently transpiring in the rest of the world. The US in a sense, to us Americans anyway, is the world. Americans are blind to what is happening in the rest of the world because they are entirely too absorbed within their own culture.

The United States has an extremely large amount of influence on the rest of western society, as well as the world. Whether from a diplomatic or cultural standpoint, the US is, in a rather metaphoric way, the entire world. This in no way needs to change, but it indeed needs to be realized. Come on now, let’s admit it. Americans love being arrogant, as a matter of fact, no other country has as much national pride and culture than the United States. Is there any other place in the world that the Kardashians and Westboro Baptist Church can exist within the same border? America is amazing, but uninformed. Diverse, but our culture is arrogant. We would rather keep up with the Kardashians than be informed about the Syrian civil war. Youth are specifically ignorant, and it’s seriously unfortunate and extremely frustrating. I myself am exhausted with the fact that my peers are uninformed about things that matter. I’m personally tired of being uninformed as well. How are we supposed to shape the future, without basic knowledge of what is happening now? Even little things play into it.

STAFF OPINION Let’s take soccer as an example; many people around the world and throughout many different cultures have been appalled at the realization that the Fifa World Cup isn’t the largest sporting event within American culture. This of course, is due largely in part to our fascination with American domestic sports. However, this is not the only thing Americans lack pertaining to cultural awareness. It’s everywhere, from our TV screens to our billboards; all we genuinely care about is our domesticated teams, and our own sports. We call the championship for Major League Baseball, a national event, the “World Series”. We perceive America to be all there is, the entire world, when this simply is untrue. It’s a mindset that’s extremely small. And is the reason many people fall into the “ugly American” stereotype. On a side note, we must also make the observation that the culture of the United States is a blend of other world cultures. Many influences have collectively drawn people to the United States, promise of a better life and freedom have all played into the multiculturalization that is America’s mainstream. And is perhaps the reason that Americans don’t seem to feel the need to expand into other geographic cultures. We see it as though all of the culture we ned, is right here at home. Our diversity hurts us in this way, as we’ve mistaken a cultural unit of people from all over the world as a reason to remain isolated as individuals. Not to mention most American teens haven’t the slightest idea of who other world leaders are, or what role they play in conflicts. And the media simply doesn’t have a regular reporting schedule that pertains to other world events. We’re more interested in the latest fashion trends than we are with conflicts in the world that actually matter. The possible conflict with Russia that the US currently faces, the Syrian civil war; unless it’s extremely important or threatens our security as a nation, we simply are unaware

or don’t care. As students, we’re uninformed to a point that it is detrimental to our safety even as future adults. Individuals who have allowed themselves to be more cultured are almost always more interesting and personable. It allows your mind to expand into the perspectives of those halfway across the world.

Let’s be informed. Not as professionals, or diplomats, but as everyday people. The cultural isolationism in which we currently immerse ourselves must be eradicated. We cannot live with the stagnant mentality that our complacency will one day fade without effort and with the absence of discipline. Pay attention to international news outlets, reliable sources such as BBC news and The Guardian are both sources based in the UK, which provide excellent, as well as accurate international information. The habits we currently rest comfortably in today will persist into adulthood. And in turn, we become uninformed adults, which is a danger to society as a whole. The point is you cannot be too greedy with your pursuit for information and truth. Watch the news, research complex topics on your own time. But don’t allow the habits we as youth have formed of allowing constant nonsense to parade through our minds trace into our adulthood.

The bottom line is, don’t be an “ugly American”. Think big, and think differently, you’ll be delighted with what you encounter.

At Brandon Meadows, you could have a great date night, (with student discount) that is cheap, and fun. Getting a group of friends together is also easy, and fun.

The start of 2017 brought out a few new movies that are keeping the box office popping! One of the new movies that came out recently is the movie called Split. This came out on January 20th, 2017. I went to the movies with a group of my friends to see the movie. We went on January 21st, and the theatre was packed. All through the movie the entire crowd was captivated. I was in suspense throughout the whole film, and could not take my eyes off the screen. The main actor is James McAvoy went by a name of Kevin Wendell Crum in the film. He was a man who was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. They claim that he has twenty-three different personalities. Kevin was the base person who had acquired all the personalities. When he abducts three girls at random, they must use their best survival skills to stay alive. They use each other to remain alive, and to find one of his different personalities to release them. The end of the movie came with a dark twist, and will leave you feeling jittery. I thought the film was excellent, and I look forward to see if a sequel will be created. Now I will have to admit that the beginning is just a little slow but once you get past the first few chapters you won’t be able to put the book down! After her better half ’s startling passing at the age of thirty-six, Gina Melrose turns into a “live-on board” on his boat, docked at a marina in beach front South Carolina, close to the home she and Ben once shared. In this temporary, borrowed existence on the water, she settles into numb survival. By: Kyndall Porter As we walk into 2016 we are all waiting for new and good music to be sent out for all of us to listen to. We anticipate certain artist to send out new albums or top hits. We look back at 2016 and the amount of accomplishments and top hits, song that have blown through charts and the ones that get stuck in our head for hours and hours, the ones that get put to dances and challenges, but more than ever there has been an outbreak of putting 2016 top hits into a mashup in a short amount of time. When scrolling through YouTube there a huge amount of videos that recap 2016 songs. Just searching “Top hits 2016 in 3 minutes” I was given about 46,300,000 results. I think that doing this is a good way to bring back all of the songs we fell in love with during the months of 2016. The artists worked hard and gave some good product for us. Drake releasing “Views”, The Weekend with “Starboy”, Rihanna putting out “ANTI”, Beyoncé give us “lemonade”, Adele releasing “25”, Sia with “This Is Acting”, Zayn putting out “Mind of Mine”, Carrie Underwood putting out “storyteller”, and Blake Shelton with “If I’m Honest.” There are so many more but here just a few of artists that put out new albums in 2016. I looked up 2016 Music and here is a recap on the songs we love!

In 2016 there was a massive change with music which included adding songs to dances that went viral, but one song was made into a challenge that was being done all over the world. The Mannequin Challenge is just as it sounds, with the song Black Beatles playing you video people doing anything as if they were mannequins. The simplicity of this went viral beyond explanation but along with this came along Juju on the Beat dance, Soulja Boy Tell Em, The Whip and Nae Nae, Bet you can’t do it like me Challenge and many more. Music is an ongoing phenomenon that everyone loves.

Wolves pride themselves as being the most conditioned team out of any team that they play, and this program helps ensure that.

Baseball Offseason- Baseball offseason also participates in workouts like offseason football. In baseball offseason though, the players participate in offensive and defensive drills and practices. The coaches condition the players but also make sure they are ready to perform on the field come the start of the season. Similar to football offseason, there are 4 teams and the team captains are the 4 seniors. They all picked their teams and also participate in challenges. The winning team gets a steak dinner. This ramps up the competition because the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;steaksâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; are high.

Boys Basketball-The basketball team has started

off the season well. The Spokane Tournament is from January 16th to the 21st. In the first game of the tournament, the Wolves beat Verona by a score of 62-47. They play next in Spokane on Thursday at 8:30.

Girls Basketball- The girls basketball team is participating in the Galena Tournament from January 16th to the 21st. They beat Wheaton in the first round by a score of 50-36. They play next. Wrestling- On January 14th,

Branson Tournament took place. Clayton Johnson took 5th at 160, Conner Shafer took 5th at 170, and Bowen Gade took 6th place at 220. The COC Tournament starts January 21st and takes place in Hollister. Come out and support the Wrestlers!

Football Offseason- Football Offseason is in the weight room from 3:30-4:30 every Tuesday-Thursday. It is focused on keeping the players conditioned and making them stronger in preparation for the football season. The coaches conduct various workouts and challenges to help accomplish this feat. There are 4 teams each with captains that draft the other players. The teams participate in challenges against the other 3 teams. The

Dallas Cowboys! He has one dog, a Lab Beagle, named Belle. He isn’t really afraid of anything, but he said he has a fear of the ocean, mainly because of sharks. He has some hopes and dreams to become the best teacher ever. Later on to become a principle! He would like to teach for a long time, before he becomes a principle.

By: Rylee Olson Phillip Dougherty is a social studies teacher at Reeds Spring High School. Last year (2015-2016 school year) was Phillip’s first year teaching at Reeds Spring High School. He went to school in Springfield, at Glendale High School. He graduated college at Drury University. Dougherty’s favorite high school memory was, of course, football. He told us another memory from High School was his senior year during football season when Glendale beat Ozark on a goal line stand and everyone charged on the field after. There were parents and children all just running onto the field! Phillip’s talents and accomplishments would have to be graduating high school and college on time, being an Eagle Scout, and becoming a social studies teacher. This being said, when asked what his hobbies were, he narrowed it down to anything that has to do with the outdoors. Mr. Dougherty hopes to stay here for a long time! We also asked him what his most embarrassing teaching moment was.

was on pace to be a pretty great high school football player. Maybe not high D1 but he could go to a pretty solid football team in collage. Garrett’s senior season ended in an 8-3 record. It was also my first year as a started on the O-Line. So I mean the record doesn’t matter to me as much as I just want to better than my big brothers. These next two years of my high school football career I will have to be the best I can. I will have to step up as a leader on and off the field. Watch non-stop film and study the playbook. Show up at summer weights and practice in the heat and even when practice is not going the way I want it to go I am going to have to step up and take leadership. Push the teammates around me to focus up and lock it in. I know I can do that it is just what I need to do. I would love to be all conference and all districts and even all state. I know I will have to work my butt off to do that. My name is Justin Miller I attend Reeds Spring High School and my motivation is trying to out play or just be better than my older brothers at football. I know it is kind of bland; being the youngest of five playing with my brothers when I was younger was hard. Always being knocked down and beat by my brothers. All that did was lit a fire under me. I have played football my whole life and the one thing I always hated was being called Tyler or Garrett by parents or coaches when I was really young. I wanted to make a name for myself within the family. As high school hit I knew I that I could show everyone how good I knew I really was. As my oldest brother Tyler graduated in 2013 and his class had the first winning record in a long time as they finished 7-4. Before that it was not looking very good I mean just 2-8 or 3-7 and I can remember Tyler just wanting to get better and work harder. So he went out and did just that. Then there is Garrett. Graduates this year and didn’t really get that senior year experience that he hoped for. I can tell you countless days where he worked his butt off in the weight room and on the field. Coming home and watching hours of film and studying who he would be up against that week. The kid didn’t have an off button and if he did I couldn’t find it. Unfortunately his senior season was only three games long as he would tear his ACL in the Bolivar game. Before that point he

Molly Mayrs

Molly is involved in several of Mr. Locke’s art classes; including advanced video production, advanced art topics, and even Mr. Johnson’s clay club. Anyone who knows Molly knows that she is a very talented, original, and creative artist. This doodle by Molly is titled “Things I know”, which is pretty self-explanatory. It’s a neat little collage of random movies, activities, and other things that Molly likes or takes interest in.

Wyatt Akromis Wyatt is one of Mr. Locke’s advanced art students. Ask anyone and they’ll say that Wyatt is extremely talented with an air-brush. For the spring Central Ozark art Conference, Wyatt has decided to submit a large airbrushed picture of a rose. Nice job, Wyatt!

Garrett White Garrett is another one of Mr. Locke’s advanced art students, and very skilled with an air-brush as well. This picture was taken during the very beginning of a quick test project, before Garrett moves on to his final piece that he also wishes to submit into the COC art contest.

There’s so much artistic talent in this school, and so much of it unfortunately goes unrecognized; which is why I’m glad that we get to continue this column with every issue. Korey Robinette Korey Robinette is one of Mr. Locke’s many fundamentals of art students. Right now, they’re working on writing a proverb with the Old English Text MT font. A proverb is a quote that someone holds some sort of sentimental value to. In this case, Korey’s quote was “Losers complain… winners train.”

It’s here. The day many Americans have been foreseeing: Inauguration Day, the beginning of the Trump administration. Whether you adore Donald Trump or absolutely despise him, one thing for certain is that his presidency is historic. Never before have Americans been so divided along party lines, so scrambled in their opinions, and so violent in their oppositions to each other. And never before has a president entered office with a 40% approval rate. Indeed, 2016 has been a rough year for America politics-wise, but with the Trump administration just taking office, more change is just around the corner.

First to the Chopping Block: Obamacare.

The first order of business to take place under the new president will most likely be eradicating the most talked about and tweaked Federal social program since March of 2010. President Obama’s “Affordable Health Care Act”. Trump has made the statement “You look at what they’re going through with their (Trumps campaign employees) health care is horrible because of Obamacare. So we’ll repeal it and replace it.” But many Americans are wondering precisely how the President intends to replace this act, without leaving almost 8 million people uninsured. Trump made the statement in a weekend interview with the Washington Post several weeks ago, that his plan to replace Obamacare was nearing completion. He also promised that “no American will be left uninsured”. Trump is most likely going to face much opposition from both parties, as the GOP has opposed socialized healthcare and government expansion of social programs for years. Congressional GOP plans to replace Obamacare have generally tried to restrain cost by shortening government requirements. Speaker Paul Ryan in fact made the statement that Americans will have “universal access” to healthcare, rather than universal insurance coverage. Possibly implying that Trumps replacement, whatever it may be, could be much like food stamps and other assistance programs; government insur-

Now, this wall is a reality for all of us, but many hold the necessary question as to where this funding is going to come from, as well as the technicalities pertaining to the physical aspect of the wall itself. Trump has stated himself that Mexico will pay for it, but many simply don’t understand how. One thing that must be remembered is that there is already hundreds of mils of wall currently standing, so whatever little progress is made, Trump will be sure to take credit for it. But not to mention T rump could add more mils of wall to the existing metal fence. But if one thing is for certain, many people will be very, very disappointed and infuriated if at least some progress is not made on the wall.

Trump has long been a proprietor of parent’s ability to choose their child’s public school; his son has made comments on this, as well as himself. Trump has said an additional 20 billion dollars will be invested in order to make this ability a reality for many people. He has also stated that states will have the choice in investing these funds to either private or public schools, specifically at their own discretion. This can be viewed as positive or negative depending on if you prefer public funds to be invested in public institutions, or private institutions. However, Trump has indeed promised to make access to college, as well as tuition rates, significantly lower. Though his pick for Secretary of Education, in the opinion of many educators is a so to say... interesting one, there is no doubt however, that Devos does advocate for private, chartered schools. And many are not okay with this, though many others are.

A Fiscal Conservative As for Trumps tax plan, the man sounds like a full on Republican. Tax cuts for the rich, but he also speaks of lowering taxes for working and middle class families. This could possibly simplify the way taxes are handled, creating a more flat rate tax system with a much smear amount of loopholes. This could also however, allow for the abuse of smaller workers. His plan also calls for the closing of many special interest loopholes, and the raise of tariffs, allowing for more competition internationally for the United States as a whole. This however, violates several principles of fiscal conservativism, possible causing an upset within the republican platform.

The Age of Cyber Warfare

This is actually something that will most likely be implemented quite quickly. Many are worried about cyber warfare, as it’s become much more prevalent throughout these past couple of years. No wonder making it a key campaign issue for both the Clinton as well as the Trump campaign. Trump has said he will “instruct the US Department of Justice” to design a task force in order to deal with cyber-crime, and if necessary,

respond to it. This is an issue both Republicans as well as Democrats can pretty much collectively agree on. Cyber warfare is a problem for the future of our country, and needs to be taken seriously. At age 94 Nancy Reagan one of the most iconic first ladies of the 20th century and also an actress in her time being known for her high profile and very influential persona. After carrying on his dad’s legacy for so long Frank Sinatra Jr passed away from Cardiac arrest living out his father’s crazy life even after being kidnapped as a child finishing his careers work at age 72. Many other notable deaths in the year 2016 that were all very tragic in the many recognizing of the amazing people that passed on like Prince, Muhammad Ali, Kimbo Slice, Jose Fernandez, and Elie Weisel.

No death of a simple zoo animal has made this big of an impact since the siberian tiger was shot by police officers for mauling one of the young men throwing rocks at her. People treated the passed gorrilla like a fallen god posted pictures of him made posters and some people even turned him into a way to make money by selling apparel, stickers, some people even showed up with harambe based flags. Although he isn’t as talked about anymore most people still categorize him in some of the big losses of 2016 because of the hype. Chicago did the unthinkable in 2016 despite getting everything they’ve dreamed of ripped from them falling short of a world series appearance. So when the time came for them to deliver against the cleveland indians, president obama mentioned the night of january 16th that it took them long enough to get in the whitehouse.

Well 2016 was the crazy year in the political race, there’s a million other ways to put it but that’s just the way that wouldn’t bring back the horrendous memories of the “hillary for prison” shirts and the red trump hats every other basic person on the planet owned in every color maybe more or less two people attacking each other for a month until the U.S. could choose their fate. Even from the beginning we knew it would be interesting as we watched Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders both drop out of the race all together and left the stage for the polar opposites the senator Hillary Clinton and Donald John Trump the Entrepreneur worth 3.7 billion dollars (Net worth). 2016 was a pretty good year and could have been a lot better, the new year brings us another chance to do some things over and do the things we love the same way. Reflecting on 2016 was well worth it and will forever be a great part of history.

Amanda’s Kiosk By: Amanda Pryor Because we have a diverse audience, the Journalism team thought it would be important to include articles of diverse topics. We want to accommodate to everyone’s interests, and part of that is introducing new columns and seeing how they do for our magazine. So, I’ve decided to start writing a beauty column. Each month you can find cosmetic advice, information, and tips, which would benefit anyone who either do these things every day, or have a passion for the beauty industry like I do. To get the audience involved each month, you can email me suggestions or topics you would like me to either write over or answer questions about (apryor@.rs-wolves.com.) This month, I want to explain color correcting, what it is, why its important, and the benefits it has for your makeup routine. After you wash your face and don’t have any product on, look at the undertones on your face. Some people have a lot of redness (sometimes stemming some rosacea or acne), while others have problems with the purple, brown, or green bags under their eyes. You can’t immediately go in with a primer and foundation on your natural skin because the tones on your face that don’t match the rest of your skin color and foundation will show through. There is a way though that you can mask these annoying blues, reds, and purples on your face and that’s with color correction. I’ve always said makeup and Art have a lot of similarities and here’s just another example. Looking at a color wheel, choose the color that matches your problematic undertone. Then, look directly across the color wheel, whatever color is diagonal from the color you wish to conceal, that’s the color you’d use to neutralize it. Companies make CC creams, concealers, and colored priming gel to get the job done. The problem: Redness Naturally, some people just have natural red undertones on their face. If your face is red after your wash your face though, it might be that your face wash is too harsh or your skin is too sensitive to the product. You might want to switch up what you clean your face with and see if it helps. Regardless, if your face is red before starting your makeup routine, it needs to be neutralized. Green is across the color wheel from red, so you would use a green concealer on the red discoloration to cancel it out.

The problem: Blue/ Purple Under eye Discoloration What color you choose to neutralize your under eyes depends on how bad they are discolored. Current Events Clemson Tigers vs. Crimson Tide By: Brendan Durham

In the 148th Division I College Football National Championship Game, a rematch of last year’s championship, the Clemson Tigers beat the Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 35-31, ending the undefeated season of Alabama and winning their first championship in 35 years. This game was an instant classic and will go down in history as one of the best games in National Championship history. It was a hard fought battle. Each team was hitting each other in the mouth from the start to the end. It was a physical game and it just made it that much better. Alabama jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on two rushing touchdowns from big running back, Bo Scarbrough. Clemson answered back with a rushing touchdown from quarterback Deshaun Watson in the second half. 14-7 was the score going into halftime. The first blood in the second half was a field goal from Adam Griffith of Alabama giving them a 17-7 lead. The Crimson Tide were starting to pull away, but not if Deshaun Watson had anything to say about it. He drove down and threw a touchdown to former walk-on quarterback turned receiver, Hunter Renfrow. Renfrow had two touchdown catches in last year’s loss to Alabama in the National Championship game. He wasn’t done in this one yet, either. His touchdown catch put the score at 17-14. The Alabama offense struggled in the 3rd quarter, but a blown coverage towards the end of the quarter allowed tight end, O.J. Howard, to catch and run for a 68 yard touchdown. 24-14, Crimson Tide ahead. The 4th quarter started and a minute in, Clemson scored on a 4 yard touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson to, arguably the best receiver in college football, Mike Williams. 24-21. Clemson stopped the Tide and scored again with a Wayne Gallman touchdown run from a yard out. This gave the Tigers a 24-28 lead. 4:38 remained in the game and it took Alabama just 2:31 to drive down and score. Their score came off a 30 yard touchdown run by Alabama’s true freshman quarterback, Jalen Hurts. They reclaimed the lead, 31-28. Clemson drove down in a hurry but wasted some valuable time, so it looked as if they were going to kick the field goal to head to overtime. They

then hit tight end, Jordan Leggett, on a 20 yard pass to get to about the 5 yard line. There was now 14 seconds left in the college football season. They tried a run with Wayne Gallman and he only gained two yards. A timeout was called with 9 seconds left. The next play Watson dropped back to pass, but saw nothing he liked and threw it out of the back of the endzone. There was now 5 seconds left, game on the line. 3rd and goal. Deshaun Watson was in the shotgun. He took the snap and threw a dime to Hunter Renfrow for the game winning touchdown with 1 second left. Clemson wins 35-31. Quarterback, Deshaun Watson, won the offensive MVP going 36-56 passing with 420 yards and touchdowns. Ben Boulware was the defensive MVP with 6 tackles and 2 tackles for loss. His unwavering leadership stands out and he lead this fantastic Clemson defense all year long. It was a marvelous game, one for the ages. The Clemson Tigers are 2016-2017 College Football Champions.

President Trump issued an executive order on Monday freezing all federal hiring in hopes of more efficiently spending the tax dollars of the American people. This is without a doubt the work of a CEO behind the scenes. Many corporations stop the expansions of their companies in order to save money for investments, the then wait in order to avoid paying laying people off, and in turn having to pay unemployment for the next year or so. Trump continued to raise the possibility of a hiring freeze throughout his campaign. Trump called it a “stopgap” way to control government spending until his administration comes up with a more long term solution. Trump Spokesman Sean Spicer said Monday in a press conference: “Some people are working two, three jobs just to get by. And to see money get wasted in Washington on a job that is duplicative is insulting to the hard work that they do to pay their taxes,” According to the OPM the federal government hired over 221,000 workers in the fiscal year of 2015, the most recent fiscal year which is available. This is without a doubt going to cause controversy, both now and in the near future. A democratic representative Gerry Connolly from Virginia whose district includes many, many federal workers, rejects the idea of a hiring freeze, stating that freezes in the past from both democratic and republican administrations. “This is a far, far cry from President Kennedy’s effort to inspire a new generation of public service.” Connolly made in a statement. Republican Barbara Comstock, also representing northern Virginia, said the same thing about the hiring freeze. Officer Ruben De Los Santos has been the Rolesville Resource Officer since the 2013 school year and there have not been any negative reports toward him until this incident. The Rolesville Police Department is asking the North Carolina’s Bureau of Investigation to conduct a third-party review of the incident so it is better analyzed for the public and everyone concerned with the case in Rolesville, North Carolina. Lisa Luten, a Wake County schools spokeswoman, says that Wake County Officials are also investigating the case. Jasmine’s mother reported that she believes Officer Santos used too much force; this has brought anger to a great amount of the other parents of the students at Rolesville High School. Rolesville Mayer Frank Eagles announced that Officer Ruben De Los Santos has been put on Administrative Leave due to the incident in the school. Jasmine suffered a concussion from the incident.

Rolesville, North Carolina had an incident occur that came known to the media January 3, 2017. Shown in a video that a student recorded, around 7 a.m. during the incident, a 15 year old African American female, identified as Jasmine Darwin, was trying to help her sister get out of a fight during school, when the schools male resource officer, better known as Officer Ruben De Los Santos, pulled Jasmine away, picked her up, and violently threw her to the ground. It is said he was wearing a body camera, but officials don’t know if it was recording or not. Jasmine was interviewed shortly after; in her interview she explains her side of the story of what had happened before the incident, during the incident, and after the incident. The principle of the school was also questioned, along with the Rolesville Police Department. “I was on the other side of the cafeteria, and then I see a big alteration. Then I run so fast. And then I seen my sister fighting, and then I see them both on the ground. And I’m trying to get my sister, and then people are like pulling me off. And I’m like, you guys need to get off of me because I’m trying to help my sister. And he picked me up and then he slammed me, slammed me on the ground. And I was out for a bit. And then that’s when I got up. He got up. And then we went to his office.” – Jasmine Darwin, 15 years old.

Indonesian Zoo

By: Kyndall Porter Footage of animals begging for food at a zoo in Indonesia was taken and has gone viral. The animals in the video look like they are in awful conditions and look as if they need to be saved from the awful place they are placed. The bears that are shown are begging for food from the visitors and look as if they are starving. The manager’s states that the animals are fed at least twice the day and that there are vets on site. The zoo is being placed on shut down after the death of an elephant that seems have haven’t eaten or have the proper care in months. Visitors were in shock that the employees didn’t see the condition that their workplace and animals were in. The containments that the animals are flooded and slowly tearing down the animal’s feet because of the concrete.
