Acclaimed flutist Danilo Mezzadri is an ACUE Distinguished Teaching Scholar and Professor at The University of Southern Mississippi. He is the creator of the Spider Log interleaved practice system, and founder of both International Flute Workshop in Italy and Southern Flute Festival in the United States. Dr. Mezzadri, featured as a soloist with more than fifty ensembles worldwide, has a “glowing, golden tone,” “vivid musicality” (FanfareMagazine), and his “dexterity is enviable” (British Flute Society). His performances have been reviewed as “gorgeous” (Detroit Press ) “with a limpid sound, and coaxing every ounce of lyricism” (JacksonPatriot). Danilo has won several competitions, including the International Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra Young Instrumentalist Competition and the Brazilian International Flute Association Competition. Danilo is principal flute soloist with Gulf Coast and North Mississippi Symphony Orchestras. He earned a Master of Music, Master of Musicology, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Michigan State University.
Critics praise pianist Elizabeth Moak’s CD “Art Fire Soul: Piano Music of Judith Lang Zaimont” for her “brio, assurance, and remarkable talent” (ResMusica, France) and her “musicianship and panache” (ClassicalNet).
“Romantic Transcriptions” with flutist Danilo Mezzadri— featuring Franck, Hahn, Schumann—was released in 2019 to favorable reviews. Winner of the Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition and the National Federation of Music Clubs Biennial Auditions among others, Elizabeth Moak has performed throughout the USA (including Hawaii and Puerto Rico) and internationally (Asia, Europe, Canada, South America), as well as on national television (PBS) and radio (NPR), and international radio (France, Switzerland, and Hong Kong). In addition to honors for her solo-piano playing, Moak has also been recognized for her teaching by Peabody Conservatory, Millsaps College, and the Mississippi Music Teachers Association, as well as for her collaborative work by the Peabody Conservatory and the Music Academy of the West.

In order to provide a comforting message to those who mourned the passing of a much-loved individual, Johannes Brahms composed AGermanRequiem. Later, however, he indicated that a better title would be “A Human Requiem” as his intent was to provide solace to every person regardless of religious convictions. In contrast to the traditional movements of the Catholic mass for the dead, Brahms selected Bible passages and chose to have the work performed in the vernacular (German) as a service for the living. As a composer, Brahms sought to measure up to being compared to other Germanic composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, by striving to write music that not only honored the past history of music but skillfully crafted new works. Indeed, Brahms’ innovative Requiem, his most lengthy composition, sparkles with grandeur and has withstood the test of time.

Born as Wladzlu Valentino Liberace, he became the best known virtuoso pianist of the twentieth century. Liberace embraced a wildly flamboyant lifestyle both on and off the stage, “didn’t just give concerts, he put on a show.” He was best known for making classical music more fun and accessible for his raving audiences. This year at FestivalSouth, we pay tribute to Liberace through his spiritual successor, David Maiocco. Dressed in similar flashy fashion, Maiocco embodies Liberace’s flamboyant style from the second he walks on stage!

PRECIOUS MEMORIES featuring Ora Reed and Larry Robinson
Falling in love with scenes of the South as a child, Darryl translated those scenes with watercolor hues and a brush. He now travels throughout the south with a vagabond approach to each painting. According to Wyatt Waters, “Darryl was motivated to find his passion and pursue it.” Darryl says”
If you’re an artist, just paint, just do it! Don’t worry about what others think!”
Darryl now has his own gallery, the D. Anderson Gallery, located in Hazlehurst, Mississippi.
