Summary
I would sum up my personal story and commitment to equity and SEL as having the desire to honor students’ needs and tackle them directly using good frameworks and tools. SEL and its pedagogical counterparts (trauma-informed, culturally responsive teaching and restorative practices) require adaptable people full of love and commitment who continuously evolve their practice to raise equity for all students. Given the difficulty of teaching, I’ve been fortunate to see many educators embody the Equity and SEL Integration Framework’s five steps.
