MMA Verde Valley Jester Run 2012 Honoring Our Fallen Brothers and Sisters of the Motorcycle Community. Submitted By Doug “8 Ball” Keatts
The Jester Run is always filled with mixed emotions, this year it was no different. Although it did turn out to be a beautiful day with lots of sunshine, friends and family. We didn't lose as many brothers and sisters as we had in the past but, it still hurt. With over 100 riders and passengers registered, it made for a nice parade through town. Lots of good memories and stories made for a great day. Thanks to everyone who stepped up to help make this a fantastic run. Special thanks go out to PaPa Dave for a beautiful ceremony. Ride Safe
Submitted by Tom “TeeKay” Kartler - Red Mount District On Saturday, May 12th, the Red Mountain District held their 1st Annual Motorcycle Awareness event at the El Dorado Bar and Grill in Scottsdale. As the newest district in the MMA family, we felt it was our duty to stage an event that focused on the core mission of the MMA. Raising awareness and raising some money for our district. To that end, we decided to make it simple and fun. Judging by the turn-out we had of the biking community, all of our goals were accomplished.

I must give a shout-out to the fine folks at the El Dorado Bar and Grill who were very accommodating. They brought in the band “Unknown Associates,” and prepared a taco bar for the event. Outside, we had vendors and a bikini bike wash. Inside, our 50/50 and raffle prizes drawing were going on. The UV Vodka girls showed up and were giving away all kinds of prizes. If you bought the taco bar ticket, you also received a Diamondbacks hat and tee shirt. The best part of the raffle

What is the MMA MMA is a Motorcyclists Rights Organization (MRO) comprised of motorcyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts who are concerned with the future, safety, and welfare of motorcycling. We are a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to improving the social atmosphere that surrounds motorcyclists, and protecting the individual freedoms of citizens. We are an association that lobbies and educates the government and the general public to promote motorcycling in a safe and positive image. When you become a member of the MMA of Arizona, you make a difference in the ongoing mission to protect your right to ride and enjoy the motorcycle of your choice, your choice of riding apparel, and when and where you can ride a motorcycle. These issues are real and present in today’s “protect yourself from yourself” political environment. This holds true for all levels of government. At the state level we have a lobbyist who regularly visits our state capital to lobby our legislators on the issues concerning the motorcyclists in Arizona. On the national level we are aligned with the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), and several other motorcycle rights organizations.

HOT RODS AND CHOPPERS SHOW! AUGUST, 4TH 2012
MA Members, As many of you know in 2011 the MMA became a Founding Sponsor of AMSAF (Arizona Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Foundation) a huge step for the MMA or any organization for that matter. Bottom line -- the MMA committed $10,000 to fund a non-political based Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Foundation. Everything that AMSAF does is 100% related to Motorcycle Safety and Awareness.
INDOORS!
Motorcycling has soared in popularity as a recreational activity and mode of transportation. There are more than 160,000 registered motorcycles in Arizona and this number continues to grow. According to the Governors Office of Highway Safety, Arizona has averaged more than 3000 motorcycle accidents each year and those figures are tragically increasing. Clearly, there are more reasons than ever to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. As Motorcyclists, we all can relate to someone who has been killed or injured in a motorcycle accident. Perhaps it was because someone didn't see the biker or it may have been through someone’s careless action. Either way, we must try to curtail the number of motorcycle accidents. Please remember: AMSAF is a non-profit (501c3) foundation and the name says it all – the AMSAF aim is to aid in the promotion and improvement of the well-being of motorcycle riders. Since the beginning, AMSAF has been active in many ways -- from helping the MMA-AZ with a statewide “Look Out for Motorcycles” sign campaign to the Arizona Centennial, Arizona Bike Week, and an event where AMSAF was the choice of Charity by its promoters. AMSAF has a lot planned and like any other start-up business, it takes time. Since the beginning, the foundation has been aggressive in doing the right thing for the Motorcycle Community and the business. In the next couple months, you will see more things in the works and some events to promote Motorcycle Safety and Awareness. We can never do enough to promote Motorcycle Safety and Awareness. It is an ongoing battle and MMA should be very proud of accomplishments that benefit the Motorcyclist in the big picture and for the long term. Be proud of what you have contributed and are still doing as an MMA member to help the Motorcyclist Community from a Safety and Awareness standpoint.
Join us and enjoy a day of fantastic Bikes and Cars – inside out of the heat! There will be Music, Raffles, Food and more! Trophies will be awarded to best in category and Show! If you have a Hot Rod or a Motorcycle come on down and join the show!

If you haven't been to the AMSAF web site, please visit: www.amsaf.org. There’s some practical information on there and, as with any business, it’s constantly changing. We're on Facebook pages as AMSAF. If you are on Facebook, please go to our AMSAF page and do a Like. You’ll find a number of tips on our Facebook page that could help you or anyone who rides. The obvious goal is to help AMSAF by sharing the tips with your Facebook friends and hopefully help someone. Thanks again for everything you do -- and for being a proud Sponsor of AMSAF. Any questions about AMSAF or what they are doing, please contact Mick Degn, Chairman of Arizona Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Foundations (AMSAF) via mick@amsaf.org or phone: 602-312-4554.

Disgruntled Biker Submitted by disgruntled biker 2 “I am a REAL BIKER” - You should be able to tell that by listening to the way I talk and how I dress. “Ride a Sportster?” “ Hey Dude, that’s a girl’s bike.” “I’m sure it wasn’t made to compete with the British bikes since the “Man” bikes were getting their asses handed to them.” “They couldn’t have been some of the first choppers”. I know – “Hey nice Fatboy”. “I know that because of the rims.” “It’s a what?”” “Shovelhead?” “They don’t even make something called that, unless it’s the new FLHTCUZEBXUD I heard about”. Yea, I know what I’m talking about. I’ve got tribal tattoos and a vest. My vest weighs 50 pounds from all the patch’s and pins. It took me 6 months to get all that together. Yea Bro, Live to Ride and Ride to Live! I’m right there with you until something scary happens or I get bored with it. Then you can find my bike on Craigslist with “3,000 miles on it, will trade for Boat or 4 wheel drive.” Yea Bro I know all about boats. Just listen to me and you can tell. Bunch of Jackass’s

Top Ten Reason’s to be a Disgruntled Biker – 1. Car Pool (FAST) Lane – I own a bike therefore I can go slower than everyone else on the road. 2. I’m FASTER than you – I need to pass you in your lane but then slow you down on the curves because I actually have no skills. 3. My bike is better than yours – Because it was built by someone famous! I can’t change my own oil but I have lots of money.

27th Annual NCOM Convention a Success
We heard news that the State of Virginia halts motorcycle checkpoints, which takes effect July 1, 2012. This prohibits law enforcement agencies from establishing checkpoints where the only vehicles subject to inspection are motorcycles. Many other states are working on the same law.
Submitted By Vern and Irene Booth The 27th Annual NCOM Convention was held May 10-13, 2012, in Indianapolis, Indiana at the J. W. Marriott Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. This is a five diamond hotel with very friendly staff and excellent service. The Convention had riders from all over the USA. Many rode their motorcycles and trikes, others drove and others used the airways. We saw patches and vests from the West Coast, East Coast and in between. There were women riders present, as well. NCOM, AIM, ABATE, MMA, ARM along with Outlaws M/C, Soldiers For Jesus M/C, Hells Angels M/C, Sons Of Silence M/C, Outsiders M/C, Bandidos M/C plus others were well represented at the Convention.

Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan ended Michigan’s helmet law battle with legislation allowing most Michigan riders to choose their headgear. What continues to be a concern is a health insurance mandate for motorcyclists licensed in Michigan requiring $20,000 in additional insurance coverage on your motorcycle policy, and the rider must have at least two years of riding experience. If under 21, you must keep your lids on. We learned that in the State of Nevada a judge dismissed a Class M class action lawsuit representing more than 40,000 motorcyclists of wrongful enforcement of the Nevada helmet law. We heard that the Minnesota Road-Guarding bill has passed. The New Hampshire House passed lower motorcycle noise standards. It imposed an 82 decibels limit, repealing the current 106 decibels. The new standard would be 92 decibels idling and 100 decibels while revving. West Virginia will not amend their helmet law this year.

What is “Biker 101”? It is a practice found in Law Enforcement Training books on stopping and enforcing traffic laws. We find some of it is discriminatory. Motorcyclists in the State of Washington have stopped this training practice altogether.

There were many conferences going on at the same time so you needed to pick out the ones that interested you. In today’s world, motorcyclists have diversified their interests into a range of motorcycle issues such as safety, technology, product design and manufacturing, as well as litigation, legislation and regulations. As you walked the halls to the different conferences, you heard buzz words like “profiling”, “lawsuits”, “checkpoints”, “helmet laws”, “wrongful enforcement”, “lane advancement”, “emission testing”, etc. If you are interested in or concerned with any current bikers’ laws, city, state, etc., you came to the right convention.

Keeping Your Cool Submitted by Cindy Gates The summer is upon us --and yes, triple digits are here. Please keep a few helpful tips in mind this summer. Desert summer heat is unforgiving. Starting in late May, the vast expanses of concrete under a relentless Arizona sun combine to turn the lowland desert cities into an oven that doesn’t cool off until Thanksgiving. It doesn't even cool down at night. The pavement can get up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, which will combine with the heat coming off your stressed motor and the surrounding cars. It can cook an egg! Getting caught in slow traffic in those conditions will teach you what desert heat is. Be ready for it. No need to end up like the postcard of a skeleton prospector reaching for a canteen.

Here are just a few things that can try to keep you cooler during the summer heat. Keep yourself covered: Shorts and tanks are never appropriate clothing to wear while you are riding motorcycles. It does not keep you cool and is actually interfering with your built-in cooling system. Heat combined with the wind can actually evaporate your sweat. If you keep covered, your sweat will actually keep you cool as you are riding. Try wearing some cotton layers that let you ‘breathe”. Drink lots of water: You may need to stop for bathroom or mesquite bush breaks, but it is better than dehydration and sunstroke.Pre-loading the day with lots of water before a long ride always helps. It you start a ride slightly dehydrated, it will only get worse. Caffeine, beer andliquor speed up dehydration.Remember 1 for 1, 1 glass of water to every glass of the above liquids Always carry a liter bottle of water. A small nylon tarp with plenty of cord for emergency shade, if needed is good to have. It could be a life saver. Avoid riding during the hottest part of the day! This is not rocket science. Go north and visit our beautiful state’s high country. Take a day trip up to the mountains. The temps are usually 20 degrees cooler. Some indications you may have heat stroke: Headache, dizziness, disorientation, hot dry skin, sluggishness, nausea, headache. If you have any of these symptoms, please pull over, get toa cool place or set up your shade tarp ---and stay there until your body cools down and you can ride safely again. Keep drinking that water.
Anti-Discrimination Law ARIZONA DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF CLOTHING OR CLUB MEMBERSHIP IS ILLEGAL Arizona's Civil Rights legislation codified in A.R.S. Sec.411401, et.seq. establish a Civil Rights Division & Advisory Board and was modeled after the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII,42 U.S.C.A Section 2000e,et.seq.), therefore the Federal courts construction of Title VII is persuasive in construing Arizona's Civil Rights Act. A "civil right" has been defined as a privilege accorded to and or a right due from one individual and another, the trespassing upon which is a civil injury for which redress may be sought in a civil action. The interference with a person's lawful conduct and actions is a violation of a civil right U.S. v.Gugel,119 F,Supp.897. To come within the provisions of the Federal Civil Rights Act, discrimination need not be only on the grounds of race, color, national origin, etc., any invidious discrimination is covered. Nanez v. Ritger, 304 F.Supp.354. Coverage includes the right to free speech, peaceable assembly and freedom of association. Ames v.Vavreck, 356 F.Supp.931. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that individuals have the constitutional right under the First Amendment to wear clothing which displays writing or designs. Cohen V. Ca.,403 U.S.1 5. Arizona prohibits discrimination in all "Places of Public Accommodation" which includes all public places of entertainment, amusement or recreation and all public places where food or beverages are sold for consumption on the premises. Thus, a person's right to wear the clothing of his choice, as well as his right to belong to any club or organization of his choice is constitutionally protected and persons or establishments who discriminate on the basis of clothing or club membership are subject to lawsuit. with permission-Richard Lester

NCOM 2012 - Indianapolis Every year NCOM is a different experience, and this year was exceptional. Indianapolis turned out to be one of the cleanest, well-organized and most hospitable cities where NCOM has held a Convention. While we were there they just happened to be having a Motorcycle Exhibit directly around the corner at one of the Museums. There were many restaurants and interesting places to see and visit -all within walking distance. I arrive at the Convention prior to most of the attendees; being the Region 9 Board Member and AZ AIM Rep there are special meetings that I must attend. This year it was decided that there would be some necessary changes to the LTF, Legislative Task Force. They were to create new goals and objectives, and planned for key members to go to Washington for one-on-one communication to further our influence re: creating new and better National Legislation for all Motorcyclists. Some of the most important national issues going on that could eventually impact any and all motorcyclists are the Patch Discrimination lawsuits. These are currently impacting the Mongols and Pagans Motorcycle Clubs, who’ve had their “Colors” taken from them due to certain Club activities and a single/individual Club member owning the legal rights to their Logo designs.Currently there have been reversals of the Lower Court findings, and Club Property has been returned. Due to the specific set of circumstances, it’s recommended that all Clubs should get their Colors and Logos trademarked and establish in writing that all Club materials and designs belong to the Club and never to an individual. Mitch Proner, the NY, CN, Aim Attorney is continuing to work on the “MOTORCYCLE ONLY” stops. These exist for our safety and official searching for stolen or improperly identified frames. To date, the Stops have not cited any safety violations but instead have questioned motorcycle operators about having proper documentation, including license, endorsement, registration, insurance, etc. Thus, Mitch has filed a lawsuit against States using Federal tax dollars for MOTORCYCLE ONLY stops that are discriminatory against Motorcyclists. One of the moments that always stand out to me every year is the Ringing of the Bell during the introductory General Session. The room falls silent and you reflect and remember the ones you lost in this last year. The Bell is struck once for everyone lost and although this year the list seemed relatively shorter than in past years, when the names are read, and specifically when it is someone that you knew, it really hits home. For me this is one of the main reasons I keep doing what I do. I just helped teach the MAP, Motorcycle Awareness Program in the local Casa Grande High School a few weeks ago, and we hope that this endeavor will help to save lives in the future. The highlight this year for me was the Silver Spokes Banquet, and the giving and receiving of two special awards -- one for Kimmy Chapman for her dedication, involvement, wisdom and experience that it took to create the AZ Biker Information Guide. It has now gone National and continues through the efforts of her daughter Kelly and their dedicated staff.Another award went to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords for her help and support for all Motorcyclists and related motorcycle Issues in the State of AZ. She was our champion, and we all continue to hope for her rapid and complete recovery. Although Kelly and Congresswoman Giffords were able to attend and personally accept the Awards, I’m setting up meeting times to award them here in AZ, and will have more on this at a later date.
Permanent Motorcycle Warning Signs installed Across U.S. (Bill Bish - Ncom Biker Newsbytes) To kick off National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, “Watch for Motorcycles” signs are being donated and installed by Allstate Insurance to help prevent motorcycle crashes at intersections. Currently, there is no standard sign for motorcycle awareness, and Allstate aims to standardize warning signs for motorcycle safety to target dangerous intersections in more than 30 cities across the country this year. The yellow, diamond-shaped signs were developed by Allstate as part of its “Once is Never Enough” program, an awareness campaign that encourages people to look twice for motorcycles at intersections. The permanently installed signs caution motorists to “Watch for Motorcycles” at intersections, which is where most multi-vehicle collisions occur for riders. The signs were designed to establish a standardized warning device that can be used by any local or state agency and would be recognizable to riders and motorists across the country. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 46% of all multi-vehicle crashes occur at intersections, oftentimes as a result of a vehicle turning left, impeding the motorcyclist’s right-of-way.
Weird News - Man Sues BMW For giving Him A Hard Time (Bill Bish - Ncom Biker Newsbytes) While an extended state of arousal after a motorcycle ride might sound like typical rhetoric of the two wheel crowd, one man is now suing BMW Motorrad USA and the maker of an aftermarket seat after a motorcycle ride left him with an erection that wouldn't go away. The California man is claiming that a BMW motorcycle and a dealer installed custom seat are responsible for causing priapism -- which thanks to TV advertisements for erectile dysfunction we now know is an erection lasting four hours or longer. According to an excerpt from the complaint; "Plaintiff was riding his 1993 BMW motorcycle equipped with a CorbinPacific seat. The ride lasted approximately two hours each way to plaintiff's destination, after which plaintiff developed a severe case of priapism. Plaintiff alleges that this condition was caused by the ridge-like seat on his motorcycle, negligently designed, manufactured and/or installed by defendants.” The suit filed in the Superior Court of San Francisco County seeks damages for lost wages, personal injury, medical expenses, product liability, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Arizona Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Foundation (AMSAF) It’s hard to believe, but July is here. The months seem to fly by. As we look back at May Awareness month, AMSAF put out a lot of safety and awareness tips on Facebook. We hope you were able to take advantage of these tips and that some of them helped you. We will continue to put tips out to try and help the Motorcycle Community, because here at AMSAF we feel safety and awareness is something that we want to focus on every day. We’ve recently had the opportunity to be invited to some events that had AMSAF as their Charity. This was a great opportunity for us to talk about what AMSAF is all about and what we want to accomplish. All of the money raised from these charity events goes to safety and awareness. One of the events alone will allow us to put up a billboard on Motorcycle Safety and Awareness. That’s huge and we thank everyone attending for this. Remember AMSAF is a 501c3 Non-Profit! As we look forward, we are looking for other opportunities to help the Motorcycle Community. Have you ever been going down the road and hit a big hole in the ground or got caught up in a large crack in the road that needed to be repaired? AMSAF would like to help in that area, and we’ll post a list of phone numbers on our website to call -so that you can report the street location. Ideally, the city or ADOT will be able to get out to fix it before it becomes an accident. Remember our goal here at AMSAF is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness. Check us out at www.amsaf.org or contact us at info@amsaf.org. We’re on Facebook as Amsaf. Look for our Safety and Awareness tips on Facebook and share our site with your friends. Everytime you share our tips, you’re helping another Motorcyclist. It doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you again for your support for AMSAF.

Submitted by Debi Althouse Payne Verde Valley District is pleased to announce that Up the Creek Grill has joined as a new Business Member. Up the Creek Grill is the old historic Page Springs Restaurantthat over the last several months has been completely restored and overlooks the beautiful Oak Creek. The new owners have brought in an amazing new menu of homestyle cooking that uses fresh ingredients and is made from scratch. They use top choice meats, steaks, burgers and serve one of the industries highest respected baby-back ribs. On certain days, the Grill will also feature prime rib. The menu is filled with on-going specials each week, such as duck, venison, buffalo, pork shank, hanger steaks and more. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the service is excellent! Stretch and I enjoyed a very nice lunch that included excellent Camp Fire Clam Chowder, an awesome apple wood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and avocado sandwich on artesian bread with delicious sweet potato fries and shrimp cocktail with fresh avocado, cucumbers and herbs. Everything we had was wonderful. For dessert, we recommend the buttermilk pie which is heaven on a plate. The prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are perfect. Lee “Snakebite” Gonzales Editor, Motorcycle Patriot Leather District BOD July has arrived. June is nothing more than a memory of scorching above 100 degree temps…well it’s not getting cooler anytime soon. Monsoon season is also here, so be careful riding in the late afternoon. Those sandblasting haboobs, thunderstorms and dangerously flooded streets can happen very quickly and they are not biker-friendly. Be sure to keep hydrated, dress cool, wear a water-soaked cap or Doo Rag, lather up the sunscreen frequently and whip out the Chap Stick! In this issue we have a variety of entertaining and informative articles. In May, many of our MMA members attended the NCOM (National Coalition of Motorcyclists) Convention in Indianapolis. They’ve written very energized articles sharing important information on what’s happening nationwide. I had so many articles submitted re:NCOM a few will have to appear in the next Patriot edition. Personally, I have been to the NCOM conference three times. There is always something new to learn and the chance for great experiences with hundreds of likeminded people from across the United States. If you have never attended, you might consider it. We are always looking for new people to attend, connect with like-minded bikers and then share their experience with us. Thanks to everyone who sent me emails about my Memorial Day Editorial. I was glad to see so many share my feelings. I even received thoughtful “Thank You” notes from some of our veterans for saying what they could not. As most of you know, I don’t have much of a problem saying what is on my mind. I frequently hear “Tell us how you really feel, Lee.” As well, I want to thank everyone who contributed to this edition; we even have some new writers! This paper requires the efforts of many to fill each issue-- so reading new or different perspectives can be a breath of fresh air --and your contributions save me the extra work of filling in those open editorial spaces. With the summer months here, I know many of you are planning the big vacation ride. Without a doubt, you’ll be taking photos to preserve those special moments. Why not share your trip, your route, your experience, a special place or even a must-go-to watering hole? Perhaps it will encourage other readers to ride to that remarkable destination and create their own special adventure. Remember our next deadline will be August 10th. For all my procrastinators, you know who you are, start writing now. It’s never too early to submit. Git ‘er done – and be safe out there!

Screw Laughlin - Ten Years After Ten years? Where has the time gone? Seems like only yesterday a group of us were sitting around a table discussing and planning our first Laughlin River Run “protest/boycott” and called it Screw Laughlin. We were tired of the overt fleecing of the American Biker with ‘Special Room and Event Rates’ with a minimum 3-night stay for around $120 a night. These were the same rooms that normally cost $25-30 bucks. Then there was the ‘No Colors/Patch Allowed’ policy instituted by the city of Laughlin in 2003 after the casino violence event of 2002. And finally--why would we want to go there and blow our hard-earned money to line the pockets of Laughlin and the event promoter? So, enough is enough. “Screw Laughlin!”
MMA Eagle District: june Birthday Rim Pool Party Bikin Submitted By Billy Larson

Screw Laughlin had many special locations over the years, as we always tried to keep the local police and sheriffs guessing where it would be, how many would show and what we were planning. Some years we would show up at our venue to be greeted by some kind of law enforcement command center. The first year all but the start-point was secret -no one knew where we were going. When police inquired as to the info on the run at sign in, I told them they had to sign up for the run, pay their 10 bucks and they could get their own personal map…they did and got a ride pin to boot. Many memories.
I want to thank everyone who came out to our June Rim Co Birthday Pool Party. It turned out VERY well, and I think Saturd everyone had a great time. If you weren't able to make it, Those you missed a great party. We will be doing this again next Hope y year -- but maybe things will be a little smoother, as this Jakes was our first one. The kids had a BLAST. We must keep in for play mind, these kids are our future MMA members -- the more make t we involve them, the more secure our future is. Picture Remember, they are the ones who will take up ridingmotorcycles in years to come, so the better example weset now, the better experience they’ll have.
This year marks the end of a decade and the end of Screw Laughlin, a bittersweet time for all who have been involved for all these years. But, the times have changed, the economy has hit the skids and, in the end, I don’t think folks remember the grassroots of this event. MMA Leather District, Desert Thunder MC and the Limey Riders MC would like to personally thank all the independents, clubs, businesses and organizations who supported us through the years. Thanks for keeping Arizona biker bucks in Arizona and supporting local businesses. We will still be working on some new events together and look forward to our next big adventure!
I know Cubby was thrilled to be a part of this. He turned 10 on June 13, and he LOVES motorcycles. Cubby rides with me every chance he gets. Two dirt bikes in the back yard are his. Awhile ago, he let a friend ride one and that boy crashed it. Now Cubby has to wait until I fix it and he can go riding again.
In the Beginning
Ok. I have heard that there were a few people who were kind of hurt because they didn't get invited. I'm sorry. That was my fault! I wanted to keep it a little smaller because this was my first Pool Party event. I didn't realize how BIG the response was going to be just from the Eagle Dist. itself. It was a success. I'm going to do this again next year and open it up to the entire MMA. The idea actually started out with just two of us. Then, when we started putting it together, we soon ran into more and more people who also had their birthdays in June. So it grew into a bigger event right away. Then we started getting kids involved, and it only made sense to get them interested in the MMA mission and values. The kids can see that even though we are a bunch of grownup bikers, we are just normal everyday people too. There were a number of people attending who aren't involved in the Biking community -- Jenifer’s family and a group of the kids’ friends. However, bikers and non-bikers alike made a VERY good showing. EVERYONE had fun...except for the thing with the alligator! But, after we kicked the alligator out, the rest went well.
Ten Years After...And We’re Still All Smilin’
I sincerely apologize to the ones who didn't get invited this year. It will be even better next year, and you are ALL going to be invited. See this year as kind of an experiment! Thanks to everyone for contributing to a wonderful poolside event.
Has your district had an event and you took pictures? Not a writer..no worries, even just pics work as everyone likes to see their smiling faces in the Patriot. Have you taken a long ride off the beaten path? Tell us your stories. Have an opinion on something in the issue? Send a letter to the editor...rest assured others probably share your opinion, dont know unless someone puts it out there. Send all the above to editor@mma-az.org

NCOM Conference 2012 Bobbi Hartmann NCOM Legislative Task Force (LTF) Member 602-672-3531 bobbij2@earthlink.net Aries: Heatwaves bring weird relief from work, especially if you are keeping vampire hours. Rest and relaxation help healing; lose yourself in old-fashioned late-night escapism. Aries is Forever Young, but resist the urge to buy that kickstart bobber! Taurus: Careful with assets this season. Autumn brings better luck in new ventures. Wait until the results are in before announcing a winner. Home-cooking and sweet loving save the day -- you win by simply saying YES. Expect unexpected guests this month. All is well. Gemini: A rush of self-confidence and an attitude-looks “make-over” open doors to financial security. You possess skill and insight—both essential for your profession. A new chance is here. The iron is heating up—get out the mega-hammer and strike! Cancer: Optimism has never been your inner way—you have a warrior’s gift for seeing the dark edges and evil intent of others. Through a sweet miracle, light and joy are filling up your life. Work now to protect home and loved ones, and still have a rowdy summer. Leo: August – Ready for large groups of feisty people or going back into your cave,Hermit? Last summer’s bummer doesn’t have to spoil the fun in 2012. Ratchet up your can-be-lazy Self and trust your Gypsy Luck. Plan and do. That fantasy comes true. Virgo: Personal issues and old war wounds cramped your social style in 2011, but the stars of 2012 bring a blast of excitement. When you thought it was too late to change, an old obstacle is removed. Breaking your cycle of REPLACING instead of FIXING: yes! Libra: Folks always misjudge Libra. You aren’t the “Peace Creep.” In fact, Libra governs legal battles, contests, law enforcement, vigilantes, militias and primal justice. Stand your ground, use the ace up your sleeve and fear not. Outcomes favor your team. Pray and Be. Scorpio: Family conflicts arose from misunderstandings…and, yes, you helped. Set your secrecy aside, bite the bullet and tell the absolute truth, regardless of drama. Like lancing a boil. Very yuck—but necessary. Vibes change for the good—now everyone dances. Sagittarius: Mind the details, dude! Jumpstart the summer fun with prevention – including the small mechanical problems you’ve been ignoring. This month, actually read bill statements, read instruction manuals and then ride with pride! New true love smiles. Capricorn: Step away from quarrels that are not real. Hesitate to act on angry words from old false friends. You’ve been sorting the good from the ugly, and doing those thankless jobs without a break. Summertime bike rallies and parties: pure pleasure with no regrets. Aquarius: Family reunions, long lost friends and solving old mysteries--- all set you free in strange ways. Your recent big push to get everything settled in your life and home will pay off. Expect the birth of a child or an announcement by summer’s end. Life wins. Pisces: The old saying applies for YOU this summer: “There are those who make things happen, those who watch what happens and those who ask what happened.” For the first time in years, you have a real choice about h
The 2012 National Coalition of Motorcycles (NCOM) Conference was held at the JW Marriot in Indianapolis IN. There are so many clubs, organizations and associations represented at NCOM, that it would be impossible to name them all. Thanks to those from MMA, ABATE and Club Reps that represented our state. We had a fine showing as usual.
NCOM LTF Session: Friday is a full day of meetings, general sessions, special meetings and seminars. The NCOM Legislative Task Force (LTF), of which I am a member, is one of the first of many meetings, seminars and breakout sessions. The LTF is made up of lobbyists, legislative leaders and yes, even state legislators. LTF members are available to be sent anywhere they are needed to speak at state rally’s, assist a state with legislation, or anything in general associated with our fight for motorcycle rights or awareness. We had 3 new members on the LTF this year; Double D, Paul Landers, and James Reichenbach III. The LTF panel shares information going on in their areas and around the country, and then opens the floor to questions. Karen from NY had a handout discussing Motorcycle Only Roadblocks/Checkpoints. It contained information on State legislation in CA, IL, MO, NH, NJ, SC and VA regarding ‘not accepting federal funding’, or ‘prohibiting vehicle specific roadblocks’ or ‘prohibiting inspection of motorcycles’. I had a handout providing links to documents I used in my Lane Splitting research, providing the Purpose, Proposed Solution, and Potential Rider/Safety Benefits we used when running our Lane Advancement (as we called it) legislation this past session. And the most talked about handout of all was from Angel, regarding the passing of the Michigan helmet repeal, after 37 years. As it stands now in Michigan, an adult rider 21 years or older does not have to wear a helmet IF they’ve had an MC endorsement for over 2 years or have taken the motorcycle safety course and have at least $20,000 first party medical benefits per person, per occurrence unless riding by themselves which only requires $20,000. The title of the handout was “Michigan Helmet Modification Bill”. It was highly recommended by more than one person, that we use the word MODIFICATION rather than REPEAL when running our legislation. Paul Landers talked about the Infusion Centers and how we need to Google these and pay attention to what they’re doing. Double D talked about Public Disclosure and how to get it, creating databases to hold your critical information and helping your people write Incident Reports. He also described what and how the state of Washington did to get their Profiling Legislation passed (more on that later). Other subjects brought up by various states were regarding Handle Bar, Lane Splitting, and Interlock Devices for motorcycles issues and legislation.
US Defenders Sem inar: Gimmy Jimmy, Bandidos MC, National Commander US Defenders, put on the seminar on Defenders Program. He talked about the lobbyists running the Bills and the Defenders being their backup, manpower, “boots on the ground”. He discussed how we need to go after a National Profiling bill, not discrimination and that we have move Quickly, Sharply and Decisively. He said when legislators look up and see lobbyists they say “What do you want?”. But, when they look up and see all of us Defenders behind them, “What do you want” comes out different. He went on to make a good point about ‘rumors’. He said, “IF you didn’t hear it from that person yourself, it’s a RUMOR. Don’t ever say it again.”
P rofiling Sem inar: DoubleD, Outsiders MC of Washington state and instrumental in Washington state getting their AntiProfiling legislation passed. He talked about the Concept of Profiling being when law enforcement targets characteristics of a person more likely to commit a crime (Racial Profiling). In the case of motorcyclists, they are targeting a class of motorcyclists, which can be classified as a “Suspect Classification”. So what we need to gather is ‘Suspect class” information in order to be protected by the 14th amendment. DO NOT individually tell stories, ‘Establish a Pattern”. This equals detailed ‘Incident Reports’, filled out properly. Then

inab the key is to not just have these incidents in a database, they but to visually have them ALL present during testimony!!! We need to create a Pattern to show Constitutional - TN – argument. Being ‘pulled over’ can be looked at as a fr ‘Warrant less Seizure’ and a violation of the 14th fund Amendment. We need to research “right to privacy’ in our individual state constitutions versus the U.S. - LA – Han Just to recap the Anti-Profiling legislation WA state sho recently passed. Not only did they have superb pen documentation, but they also had a Court Injunction on their law enforcement agencies, showing/including an - CO actual copy of the “Biker 101” document that they were sho using to ‘promote profiling’. That along with the ‘frosting US on the cake’, which was a video of cops in the bushes han taking motorcycle plate numbers while parked at the state look Capitol, well need I say more? DoubleD told me Quote and “This bill passed because we articulated a clear pattern of Acc profiling and discrimination and hundreds showed up to than support the testimony. A four pronged approach. Superior we public advocacy, massive preparation, Wo organization/communication network and club bro participation.” – Un-Quote. whe pipe He finished the seminar by saying that they now have an will argument with ‘teeth’ and are now able to use this in other cases, to win those as well. He highly recommended that we be organized and put our Voter Registration # on all - AZ – pro correspondence with our legislators. enf opp COC General P atch Holder Meeting: Ariz Each year, they start this meeting by presenting the say “NCOM Chairman of the BOD Award” to some deserving tail individual. This year it was presented to Little John, Outlaws MC Michigan, for all his hard work in getting the - OR Helmet Modification bill through and signed by the Mik Governor. Host “Doc”, Sons of Silence Indiana said that Col there was no one more deserving. Unbeknownst to my ridin good friend Angel, current LTF member, prior MI COC ran lobbyist, still working closely with them even though she’s wer now in TN, Little John and NCOM had worked it out that the Little John would present her with an NCOM Life Time Achievement Award as well. Her hard work and dedication - KS – to this issue, was also instrumental in its passing. sinc go This meeting is held Friday night and has COC Reps, about 43, from across the country sit at a multi tier of R egio tables and share what is going on in their areas. Following Saturd is a short summary of this meeting: we all b consist - Northern NM – 43 active clubs, ran HB12 Careless Driving penalties increased, they now have a North & Region ND, SD South COC, 3 NMMRO’s (in process) and US Defenders active. Their Motorcycle Awareness efforts though is good have received huge community support. ‘open d - TX Dallas / Fort Worth – Motorcyclists died in a hit - OR and run crash. Their Mayor proclaimed Motorcycle Cap Awareness because they lost one of theirs.
- WA - CA San Diego – Spike from Hessians MC talked of Go ‘motorcycle checkpoints’ and that Carpool signs would on ‘ soon include motorcycles. He also mentioned that cop their State Dept of Safety is working to Ban lane wor splitting in CA.
- CA - NC COC – Their Defenders program is working, they ‘fun have several motorcycle friendly legislators, they’re surv expanding their MAP presentations, motorcycle only bill, checkpoints are illegal and if a driver/rider comes over into someone else’s lane and causes a crash, there - WY – are ‘increased penalties’. mph yea - Reno NV – Northern NV now has 4 Sport Bike clubs in of s their COC, Billboards up, working on Lane Splitting bill, RO looking for a lobbyist working on various charities and hav selling advertisement on their run calendar. thou mid - Southern NV – Have Civil Rights lawsuit in the works, Wa and repeal of their handlebar height on January inch legislative agenda. - MI COC – 8 new clubs, helmet law repealed after 37 years.
- SD – win
- OK COC – Credit given to the US Defenders, Tiger Mike, Mongols, Outlaws, Bandidos for ALL working together to get the job done.
- CO Saf Acc Inte
- Philadelphia PA – the Pagan for Philly stated that he was nervous this being his first time talking to a large - UT – crowd. He got the biggest laugh/applause however - NM when telling us how he recently learned that the day State MRO’s “ARE IT”!!! He went on to say that they bike need to treat them good and not ‘Bully’ them and effo he was honored to be here. He got an even bigger applause by saying they needed to stop the tough guy - Sou crap and give respect to get it. Tough guys last a little all C while, but respect lasts forever!! effo with - AL – Now have ‘no skills test’ for MC endorsement, but Lan NO GOOD in other states. Going to upgrade test to
include skills test. They are trying to address the fact - AZ – that in AL, 90 out of 100 motorcycle crashes are single han vehicle crashes due largely to ‘alcohol’ and ‘rider

inability’. There are ‘no approved helmets’ in AL, but they have a helmet law. Go figure!!!
- TN – Talked about Angel and her dedication. They have a free medical clinic, with no government grants and funded by clubs, especially the Outlaws MC. in our - LA – COC is working with ABATE to repeal their Handle Bar height from 15” from the ground, to shoulder height. Call To Action on ROW increased penalties and ‘impound’ of vehicle on the 1st offense.
on an - CO – member of SOS MC always thought that women ere should keep their mouths shut; until he met “Tiger”, the ting US Defender Nation COIR Commander who single es handedly along with Diablo, have the legislators now e state looking for them. Four legislators spoke on their behalf uote and this year 6 legislators spearheaded the Equal tern of Access bill. US Defenders have done more in 2 years p to than their COC has been able to do in 15. He stated perior we need to use the right people and organizations. Working on ‘ignition interlocks’ for bikes issue and brought a case of profiling to their Mayors attention when someone was stopped by gunpoint for loud pipes. They are filing for an internal investigation which ve an will probably end up in 1st Amendment law suit. n other ed that on all - AZ – 76 member clubs, need to all come together, ran profiling from different angle by going after law enforcement training programs. “I’m So glad to See That You Wear A Helmet!” Submitted by Pam Costello This is what I often hear from family and/or co-workers as Bob and I arrive on a bike somewhere and they see helmets on our heads. I can't just let that statement go by without a response. It’s a perfect opening to educate the naive people who think a helmet acts as some kind of magic force field for saving lives. I am quickly up on my soapbox smashing all the ideas they have formed due to slanted, incorrect media coverage regarding crashes. I tell them; “Yes, I do wear a helmet” - just as it is a personal choice not to it is also a personal choice to do so. I know perfectly well that if a car smashes into me or knocks me down and runs over me a hunk of plastic and Styrofoam on my head is worthless. I tell them we should never promote a mandatory helmet law. It would only send a bad message to the general public (car operators). Education about motorcycle awareness is what saves lives. I do, however, believe that in a low (very low) impact situation if we fall over and my precious little head bounces off the curb, my helmet will at least save me from one of those pesky personality curves (anyone remember Clay Douglas?). Also, Bob won't let me carry a gun. If you ever saw the movie "Sideways" you know how a helmet could be useful in your hands, not on your head. Personally, I thought the, movie was stupid but I appreciate that scene. I now digress. By now if you are reading this you are most likely saying to yourself "OK bitch what is your point ?" The point is Motorcycle Awareness is my personal agenda. I talk it up at work, at family gatherings, to perfect strangers. I inform people who do not ride about the stupidity in the media, in the courts, etc., and, in turn, I know at least some of them go away sympathetic to our cause and will then inform OTHER PEOPLE on their own. The fact that I wear a helmet (causing someone to say "the dumb thing", referred to in the title) opens up a gate for me to sound off when perhaps I would not have a reason to if someone had not set me off. I enjoy being free.

You Might Not Be A Biker By Rick Straub If your scooter has more miles rolling to the bike shop to get chrome than to the local tavern to get a beer, you just might NOT be a biker. If you won't drink a beer unless it has a lime in it, you just might NOT be a biker. If you think the term "ol lady" refers to the 75 year old battle ax that lives two houses down, you just might NOT be a biker. If you ever skipped a bike night because you didn't have time to clean the scooter, you just might NOT be a biker. If you toss out a T-shirt because it got an oil or grease stain, you just might NOT be a biker. If you get more excited watching your buddy flash his new chrome than his ol lady flashing her new tits, you just might NOT be a biker. If the first anniversary of your new scooter comes before its 5000 mile service, you just might NOT be a biker. If the bar you hang at serves drinks with umbrellas in them, you just might NOT be a biker. If you ever told your ol lady to "go put a bra on" because her T-shirt showed too much nipple, you just might NOT be a biker. If you and/or your ol lady walk around the bike show in chaps when it's 90 freaking degrees outside, you just might NOT be a biker. (unless the ol lady just has a thong on with her chaps of course) If you get offended by the gals dirty dancing with each other on top of the picnic table you are grubbing at, you just might NOT be a biker. If you have ever opted not to stop at a café or bar because there were scooters parked out front, you just might NOT be a biker. If you ever left the scooter at home because it was too much of a pain in the ass to move the cage out of the way, you just might NOT be a biker. If you would rather catch up on your reading than go for a putt, then you just might NOT be a biker. If you always make sure the ride ends early enough so that you have time to "clean the Motorcycle," then you just might NOT be a biker. If you only attend bike rallies that have RV hookups, you just might NOT be a biker. If you call the dealership to schedule your next oil change, you just might NOT be a biker. If you have your Harley T-shirts dry cleaned, you just might NOT be a biker. If you have ever chosen not to ride one day because it "might rain", then you just might NOT be a biker. If you missed the Sturgis rally because your trailer was still in custom paint, you just might NOT be a biker. If you replace your scooter's rubber because of tire rot instead of tire wear, you just might NOT be a biker. If you get a "temporary" tattoo at the bike show, you just might NOT be a biker. If you have ever left a bar because of their poor wine selection, you just might NOT be a biker. If your 2500 mile oil change only comes around every 6 months, you just might NOT be a biker. If you don't have a tent and bed roll that straps on to your scooter, you just might NOT be a biker. If you ever saw a broke down biker and chose not to stop and help because he (or she) looked "SCARY", you just might NOT be a biker. If you overhear a biker ask his bro how "Lizard" is and you think he is talking about his pet iguana, you might NOT be a biker. District Updates
Northern Arizona District
Verde Valley District
Greetings from the Sunny North!
Summer is here, everyone -- which in Arizona brings the heat! Let‘s all remember to take the time to be safe and hydrate before spending time out there riding. The Verde Valley District is very proud of the new things we have going. We have signed up some new members this past month along with another new business member, Up the Creek Restaurant --a very fine dining restaurant in Cornville. You will see it listed in the business section in this edition of the Patriot. Please take time to welcome Up the Creek Restaurant as a business member, and if you are in Verde Valley, consider a stop by for some of their excellent food. We want to thank the City Manager of Cottonwood, Doug Bartosh and ADOT for getting the 5 new “Look Twice For Motorcycles” signs up so quickly. There are pictures of these signs in this edition of the Patriot. I have an excerpt from a letter a very nice couple wrote the Verde Valley Independent news paper and I would like to share with you. “We have a motor home, van and a small SUV besides our two motorcycles. We are aware of how easy it is to not see a motorcycle on the roadway. This is the reason we need the reminders to look twice. Motorcyclists are people too”. “We wanted to express our appreciation and thanks to the City of Cottonwood for recent erection of signs near the city limits”. Thanks to the City for efforts to reduce motorcycle accidents.” Carol & Dan – Verde Village
Congratulations to Steve Lippert, our new State Board Representative for the Northern Arizona District. Thank you for stepping up! His contact information: mrlimeysteve@yahoo.com phone: 760-554-0567 A Memorial Ride was held in Page in May for local rider Dennis Engelhard. He is a Viet Nam vet and has been diagnosed with cancer. We made a loop out of town to The Coves at Lake Powell, then back out to the highway returning to Page. Photos are courtesy of Charley…….. Our “Look Twice for Motorcycles” signs have been getting a lot of attention from the locals. Next step will be to get the signs posted lake-wide in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (Lake Powell) and outlying areas of Greenehaven, Big Water and Church Wells. They’re baaaccckkk! Summer is here and the bikers with it. Have seen groups up to about 40 riders coming through from various countries, Italy, Germany, Britain, and France to name a few. Membership drive is underway. Marvin Carter, Membership Chair, is in touch with our local Lifetime Business Members getting flyers posted and applications available. Goal is to increase local membership and participation. Discussion underway to do incentive drawing for participation at meetings and events. Let’s get out and ride: Saturday, June 16th is the Annual Redneck POKER run to Flagstaff. Prizes awarded back in Page for Hi and Lo hands. Wednesday, July 4th Let’s Get Cool in the Pines! After we participate in the City Parade we head for the hills, destination Jacob Lake and the North Rim.
To me, that message really hits home. I want to thank Carol & Dan for writing this letter to the city. This article was shown to me during the Jester Run. So you might imagine how much impact that can have on a person while we are remembering our lost and fallen brothers and sisters. It was quite humbling to say the least.
For more information on any of these rides call Jim “Redneck” Blair at 928-660-0656.
I want to thank all the districts and clubs who participated in the Jester Run this year. It was a success and a special thanks to the High Country District for your help putting this run on. You can read more on the Jester run in this edition of the Patriot.
On May 12, 2012, Red Mountain District held our 1st Annual Motorcycle Awareness Event at El Dorado. We had a great turn out with lots of fun for all. It was hot out there but, it was worth it. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event. Thanks to Tammy who worked really hard to make this a great MA event. Not bad for her first event. I would like to thank the rest of the Red Mountain Crew that helped with the planning, set-up and tear down of the event. A special “Thank You” goes out to the eight vendors as well as Barb, Joe and the staff at the El Dorado. We had such a good turnout, that we are going to definitely make this an annual event. See this issue of the Patriot for pics and column by TK.
We are excited to have been approached by the Lake Montezuma/Rim Rock Golf Course and Ranch House Restaurant to help them with a Poker Run Fund Raiser to help get the golf course back open and the grounds planted. They were very impressed by how organized and well run the Jester Run was. We will be meeting with them in the next week or so to finalize plans and hope to have an update for the next Patriot. That’s all I have for now – be safe out there, and we will catch you on our next run. Stretch MMA VV ADM

If you're like most people I've met in my eight years working to educate the public on this topic, eness then you probably don't. It's a subject that a lot of people think they understand, but too often our perception of ots on police power is distorted by fictional TV dramas, sensational media stories, silly urban myths, and the Kat tarted unfortunate fact that police themselves are legally allowed to lie to us. It wouldn't even be such a big deal, I suppose, if our laws all made sense and our public servants always FYI: treated us as citizens first and suspects second. But thanks to the War on Drugs, nothing is ever that easy. so When something as stupid as stopping people from t 23 possessing marijuana came to be considered a critical d law enforcement function, innocence ceased to protect nd people against police harassment. From the streets of the the h our Bronx to the suburbs of the Nation's Capital, you never ues. have to look hard to find victims of the bias, incompetence, and corruption that the drug war delivers s me of on a daily basis. Whether or not you ever break the law, e sites you should be prepared to protect yourself and your property just in case police become suspicious of you. are e US Let's take a look at one of the most commonly misunderstood legal situations a citizen can encounter: a She embers police officer asking to search your belongings. Most t and people automatically give consent when police ask to perform a search. However, I recommend saying "no" to o police searches, and here are some reasons why: out e like 1. It's your constitutional right. The 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects us against unreasonable you searches and seizures. Unless police have strong ond evidence (probable cause) to believe you're involved in MA ny of criminal activity, they need your permission to perform a ays to search of you or your property. You have the right to refuse random police searches anywhere and anytime, so long as you aren't crossing a border checkpoint or entering a secure facility like an airport. Don't be shy
Arizona heat and UV damage is killing pets this summer! Submitted by Amber "Pixyled" Faith Have animal companions? Let commonsense and love lead the way. Please give your pets, birds and all livestock LOTS of water 24/7, available 12-hour shade to escape the sun, and a weekly cool bath or swim for the non-felines. If you are thirsty, your pets may be thirsty too! Remind your buddies to share a round of fresh water with the house...and the about standing up for your own privacy rights, especially when police are looking for evidence that could put you behind bars. 2. Refusing a search protects you if you end up in court. It's always possible that police might search you anyway when you refuse to give consent, but that's no reason to say "yes" to the search. Basically, if there's any chance of evidence being found, agreeing to a search is like committing legal suicide, because it kills your case before you even get to court. If you refuse a search, however, the officer will have to prove in court that there was probable cause to do a warrantless search. This will give your lawyer a good chance to win your case, but this only works if you said "no" to the search. 3. Saying "no" can prevent a search altogether. Data on police searches are interesting, but they don't show how many searches didn't happen because a citizen said no. A non-search is a non-event that goes unrecorded; giving rise to a widespread misconception that police will always search with or without permission. I know refusing searches works because I've been collecting stories from real police encounters. The reality is that police routinely ask for permission to search when they have absolutely no evidence of an actual crime. If you remain calm and say no, there's a good chance they'll back down, because it's a waste of time to do searches that won't hold up in court anyway. 4. Searches can waste your time and damage your property. Do you have time to sit around while police rifle through your belongings? Police often spend 30 minutes or more on vehicle searches and even longer searching homes. You certainly can't count on officers to be careful with valuables or to put everything back where they found it. If you waive your 4th Amendment rights by agreeing to be searched, you will have few legal options if any property is damaged or missing after the search. 5. You never know what they'll find. Are you 100 percent certain there's nothing illegal in your home or vehicle? You can never be too sure. A joint roach could stick to your shoe on the street and wind up on the floorboard. A careless acquaintance could have dropped a baggie behind the seat. Try telling a cop it isn't yours, and they'll just laugh and tell you to put your hands behind your back. If you agreed to the search, you can't challenge the evidence. But if you're innocent and you refused the search, your lawyer has a winnable case. Remember that knowing your rights will help you protect yourself, but no amount of preparation can guarantee a good outcome in a bad situation. Your attitude and your choices before, during, and after the encounter will usually matter more than your knowledge of the law. Stay calm no matter what happens, and remember that you can always report misconduct after things settle down. Finally, please don't be shy about sharing this information with your friends and family. Understanding and asserting
your rights isn't about getting away with anything, and it isn't about disrespecting police either. These rights are the foundation of freedom in America, and they get weaker whenever we fail to exercise them. Scott Morgan is Associate Director of FlexYourRights.org and co-creator of the film 10 Rules for Dealing with Police.
Sunburn Remedies Living in Arizona, sunburn is something you know you are going to encounter one time or another, and most likely, more than once. Best case scenario is always to lather on the sunscreen. But, sometimes we forget or forget to reapply. If it happens, here are some home remedies to sooth the pain away. Taking a pain-reliever, like ibuprofen and aspirin, is a way to relieve sunburn pain. A vinegar bath with apple Cider vinegar is a famous home remedy for sunburn. Vinegar could help to balance the body's pH levels to take away the stinging feeling of the burn, it likely works by just providing a cooling sensation to the skin but you do smell pretty funky afterwards. Pain or smell, you decide. Gel fresh from an Aloe Vera plant is better than over-thecounter products -- which could list aloe on the label but may not actually provide any relief. Apply vitamin E oil to sunburns to relieve pain, the vitamin helps to moisturize the skin. Common sense would tell you that if you have a burn, you should put something cold on it. A cold shower can help cool the skin and make it feel better Baking soda creates an alkalized environment that is soothing to the skin. It has antiseptic properties, can help with the itch and work as an exfoliant. Mix together baking soda and water, and then using cotton balls to apply to the affected area. Or, add a 1 cup of baking soda to a bath and soak 30 minutes. Cold milk is refreshing, and even more so -- a cool swipe of milk on sunburn can help relieve pain, yogurt also works. Milk is known to help soothe pain, itching and burning when used in cold compresses, Putting oatmeal on sunburn is one of the oldest home remedies. Oat extract has been shown in studies to have anti-inflammatory properties that could help relieve sunburn pain. Make up a batch of oatmeal and chill it down and apply to sunburned skin, it will sooth the burn. Or, add 2 cups to a cool bath and soak for 30 minutes. Spray burn area with witch hazel. Last and certainly not least…shaving cream. That’s right most have menthol and cool the skin.

Riding Tip: Using the Front Brake for Maximum Stopping Technology associated with motorcycling has changed greatly over the years. In particular, the braking power provided by modern day motorcycles has increased tremendously. Heck, in the early decades of motorcycling, bikes didn’t even come with front brakes. Today it is different. Some of today’s motorcycles can create more than 1G of stopping force with their front brake. So how do we make the most of our front brake?
KNOWLEDgE: Have you heard the myth that using the front bake will send you over the handlebars? Well, MISUSE could possibly do so, but the reallity is that proper application of the front brake is a truly effective way to get stopped and a tremendous hazard avoidance tool. Did you know that a motorcycle’s front brake can produce between 70 to 100% of the motorcycle’s stopping power? Just understanding this simple fact may prevent a rider from under-utilizing the front brake or from not using the front brake at all. SKILL: Building the skill for using the front brake doesn’t have to happen while riding; it can happen with the bike stopped. Working on the throttle to brake and back to thottle transitions without the motorcycle running can increase our front brake proficiency. Using slow, gradual and precise movements of the front brake in coordination with the throttle will make our stops even smoother and more controlled. PRACTICE: Find a parking lot or commercial area and practice stopping quickly. Work on stopping in shorter and shorter distances. Work on increasing your approach speed before stopping. Even better, come to a TEAM Arizona training course to improve your skills. Research shows that people who are formally trained are involved in just 10% of motorcycle crashes. I’m sure you’ll agree that motorcyclists need as many advantages as possible when dealing with traffic. One of the biggest advantages can be created with our right hand. Are you prepared to use the front brake to its maximum potential?
The wearing of colors by members of motorcycle clubs is a means of identifying Club Members and symbolizes their common interests and beliefs. Prohibiting speech of this nature constitutes an attack on a particular viewpoint. Sammartano v. First Judicial District Court, in and for the County of Carson City, 303 F.3d 959, 971-72 (9th Cir. 2002). In Sammartano, the Carson City courthouse enacted a rule to prohibit admission of those with “clothing, attire or ‘colors’ which have symbols, markings or words indicating an affiliation with street gangs, biker or similar organizations,” because “such clothing or attire can be extremely disruptive and intimidating, especially when members of different groups are in the building at the same time.” 303 F.3d at 964. The Ninth Circuit reasoned that the rule singles out bikers and similar organizations for the message their clothing is presumed to convey, and held that the rule impermissibly discriminates against a particular point of view – the view of biker clubs as opposed to garden clubs and gun clubs. Id. at 971-72. Biker Vittles
___ __ ___ ___
From the Table of the Vittle King Oh Yes...It’s summertime again! Hell has turned up the fire under Arizona and most of us now are just looking for a cool retreat. After a long day in the sun, on the job, or just relaxing in the cool, the last thing you want to do is hang over a hot stove for an hour cooking dinner (it will just make you more cranky) I’m into fast, easy cool meals for summer. Good, nutrional and not much fuss. These are a few of my favorites from the table of the “Vittle King”.
