Synopsis

Coaching as a leader development experience and method is gaining rapid popularity. More and more organisations are serious about investing in coaching. However, users (HR professionals, Business leaders and business promoters) can be confounded by the many variations, the many different approaches and the differing levels of competence. This results in them often being unclear about how to choose the right approach and how to get the best out of coaching.

Given that coaching is a helping relationship, the human considerations add to the complexity of choice making.

It is in this context that the book 'Coaching your Leaders: A Roadmap for organisations' finds a place as a simple and reliable guide to users to help them get the best out of coaching. Written in the style of a user manual, the book starts off talking about coaching as a product and the operating system in which coaching happens. It then delves into the 'installation process ' and the various 'modes and settings' that coaching lends itself to. We also have 'operating instructions' that describe the suggested process for effective use of coaching in an organisation The book ends with perspectives on the 'warranty' and 'safety instructions' that accompany coaching considering it is also a sensitive developmental intervention. Based on over 18 years of experience, the final 'troubleshooting' and FAQ chapter is replete with situations faced and possible ways to deal with them.

This does not aim to be a book that needs to be read cover to cover. A reader can just go to any chapter that sounds relevant and still get value out of it. Eventually the authors hope to help the reader get a complete understanding of the power and the responsibility that comes with using coaching as a leader development intervention.
