Fashion connotes freshness and a feel-good factor for consumers. It also provides employment to workers in many developing countries. However, fashion apparel and footwear is one of the most wasteful industries in the world.

While the inputs to factories include 100 Million tons of oil and 30 Trillion gallons of water per year apart from fertilizers/pesticides/chemical dyes, discarded clothing/footwear add the equivalent of one garbage-truck of waste-products to landfills every second and most of this is incinerated. Half a million tons of microfibres from clothing are leaking into our oceans every year !
