1. USE AND CHARACTERISTICS The FRP airport fences are built with fiberglass and polyester resin gratings or mesh and profiles, they assure several advantages compared to the normal metal ones: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. l. m.

The fences are supplied with all the necessary elements and fixing accessories. The posts are tested to withstand wind loads corresponding to a basic wind speed of 31 m/s according to the Construction Technical Standards (Norme Tecniche per le Costruzioni NTC 2018). For different wind load requirements or for particular needs, the fencing could be customized with other types of posts, meshes or gratings: in these cases, we suggest to contact our technical department.

2. MATERIALS M.M.’s airport fencings are built with FRP pultruded profiles and molded FRP gratings or FRP mesh, as described in tables 2.1, 2.2 e 2.3. The distance between the posts is of 2 m. MM fence type 1R is made of FRP PROFILES and MESH. The use of the FRP mesh makes this solution LIGHTER in terms of WEIGHT and easier to install than the 1G type, which is made of FRP gratings instead. MM fence type 1G, on the other hand is made of FRP PROFILES and GRATINGS: this solution features a HIGHER STIFFNESS than the 1R type made of FRP MESH.

3.2 AIRPORT SECURITY FENCES 1R TYPE

FRP 40x40 mm mesh, weight 980 g/m2, height 2.5 m (2.0m + 0.5m). The MM mesh is made of pretensioned glass fiber, impregnated with thermosetting resin. Yellow standard color. Supplied in rolls. The kit provided by MM includes polyamide ties for fastening of the mesh to the vertical posts and to the tension wires installed between the vertical posts.

FRP vertical posts made of rectangular profiles, dimensions 80x50 mm, thickness 5 mm, grey standard color. The vertical posts are installed considering 2 m spacing; each post features a total length of 3.0 m, being 0.5 m the foreseen depth of the embedment in the concrete foundation. Thus, the posts have an above ground height of 2.5 m (wire holders extension arm excluded). Each vertical post is pre-drilled in order to allow the passage of no. 4 wires.

Anti-intrusion wire holders extension arm excluded, single or double, installed on the top of each vertical post. Each holder is made of no. 1 C-shaped profile type C60x50, thickness 5 mm, grey standard color, drilled in order to allow the passage of no. 3 anti-intrusion polyamide wires.

FRP diagonal bracings forming an angle α=75° with the vertical post, are installed transversely to the longitudinal direction of the fence; each bracing is made of no. 1 C-shaped profile type C60x50, thickness 5 mm, grey standard color. The total length of each of these elements is 2.35 m, being 0.5 m the foreseen depth of the embedment in the concrete foundation. The supply of these elements includes the AISI 316 stainless steel accessories for the fastening to the rectangular 80x50 mm vertical posts. Their foreseen spacing is 8 m, i.e. every 4 posts.

FRP diagonal bracings forming an angle α=75° with the vertical post, are installed in the longitudinal direction of the fence and are made of square profile, dimensions 50x50 mm, thickness 5 mm, grey standard color. The total length of each of these elements is 2.35 m, being 0.5 m the foreseen depth of the embedment in the concrete foundation. The supply of these elements includes the AISI 316 stainless steel accessories for the fastening to the rectangular 80x50 mm vertical posts. The foreseen spacing is 14.00 m, i.e. every 8 posts.

FRP double reinforcing diagonals forming an angle α=75 ° with the vertical post, are installed in the longitudinal direction of the fence, and are made of square profiles, dimensions 50x50 mm, thickness 5 mm, grey standard color. These elements are installed under the ground level for the embedment in the concrete. The supply of these elements includes the AISI 316 stainless steel accessories for fastening to the rectangular 80x50 mm vertical posts. These elements must be installed at every change in direction or height gap.

Polyamide tension wires (diameter 4 mm), black color, are installed in order to support the mesh. The wires must be tensioned and installed in according to the position of the holes in the pre-drilled MM profiles: o 4 continuous wires pass through the 4 pre-drilled holes of the R80x50 vertical post

Polyamide tension wires (diameter 4 mm), black color, are installed in order provide the mesh with a cross-shaped in-plane bracing system.

Polyamide anti-intrusion wires are installed on the relevant wire holder extension arms. The wires must be tensioned and installed according to the position of the holes in the pre-drilled MM profiles: o 3 continuous wires pass through the 3 pre-drilled holes of the C60x50 profile

The kit supplied by MM includes all the aluminum tensioning and jointing tools for polyamide wires.

1G TYPE

FRP grating featuring a 38x38 mm square mesh, weight 2640 g/m 2, height 2,5 m (1.0 m + 1.0 m + 0.5 m), “Meniscus” concave surface, grey standard color. The MM grating is molded and produced with pretensioned glass fiber, impregnated with thermosetting resin. Grey standard color. The supply of the typical module includes no. 2 standard panels 1000x2000 mm and no. 1 element of 500x2000 mm. The kit provided by MM includes AISI 316 stainless steel fixing clamps for fastening of the grating to the vertical posts. PAGINA 9

The supply of these elements includes the AISI 316 stainless steel accessories for fastening to the rectangular 80x50 mm vertical posts. These elements must be installed at every change in direction or height gap.

4. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The vertical posts must be embedded in the concrete considering a 500 mm depth (Fig. 1). Both the wire holder and the transverse diagonal bracing are made of C60505 profiles, shaped in order to be easily fastened around the vertical post with rivets (Fig. 2). The longitudinal bracings are made with profile type Q50505 (for 1R fence) or profile type R85253 (for 1G fence); in both cases, the profiles are shaped in order to be easily placed and fastened to the vertical post with stainless steel AISI 316 plates and rivets (Fig. 3). The 1R fence is provided with vertical posts and wire holder extension arms, both pre-drilled in order to allow the passage of the polyamide wires. The mesh is fastened to the tension wires with polyamide ties 2.5 and to the vertical post with polyamide ties 7.5, both in black color (Fig. 4). The 1G fence is provided with pre-drilled wire holder extension arms in order to allow the passage of the polyamide anti-intrusion wires. Each grating panel is fastened to the vertical post with no. 4 AISI 316 stainless steel fixing clamps and no. 2 M6x40 screws for each clamp (Fig. 5).
