Millhopper Montessori School (MMS) invites children ages 2 through 8th grade to join our adventure-filled weekly camps, where they’ll learn, play, and grow together. Our approach nurtures a child’s spirit by demonstrating respect for others and a celebration of diversity. Our camps incorporate many cross-curricular projects with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) and allow students to explore these disciplines in depth.

What makes Millhopper Montessori Summer Camp unique? Multi-age camps help each child develop intrinsic motivation and a sense of community. The younger students learn from the older students, and the older students ground their knowledge and develop leadership skills. A low student-teacher ratio enables smallgroup learning and one-on-one attention for your child from our highly credentialed educators. Using Montessori philosophy and principles, our teachers craft developmentally appropriate, action-packed camps that are both educational and fun!

Our mission is to provide a developmentally appropriate Montessori program with 21st century best practices to facilitate students’ social, emotional, and cognitive development. Children come to us full of potential and leave enthusiastic learners, out-of-the-box thinkers, and high achievers prepared for the ever-changing world.

Morning and After Camp Programs •

The Morning Program and After Camp Program are charged at $10.00/hour and are billed after use.

•

A family’s second and subsequent child will be charged half price for morning and after camp fees - the Morning & After Camp Program is only available for children enrolled in our summer camps.

Face Masks •

Face masks are optional for staff and students.

Meals & Snacks •

Each camper must provide their own snack (for the day and after camp), lunch, a cloth mat to place their lunch upon, and water bottles. Water bottles will be filled as needed.

Please do not send items that need to be refrigerated or microwaved. Campers will not have access to either. Should your child be in a camp that has field trips, please be aware of the circumstances of that trip and pack your child’s lunch in the appropriate bag or cooler. Children need to bring their utensils.

Dress Code •

Sneakers that fully enclose the top of the foot and the heel are required for safety reasons.

Please send your child in comfortable attire that can get dirty. We recommend appropriate length shorts no shorter than mid-thigh and a t-shirt. Skirts are allowed but should have leggings underneath as our camps are very active.

Medications •

All medications must be given to the Front Office and the appropriate forms completed. Regardless of age, students cannot keep medicine on their person, in their bags, or in their locker. Please be specific when leaving instructions.

Personal Items •

To ensure every child’s safety, campers are not allowed to bring any toys, electronics, or other personal items to camp.

Behavior •

The staff at MMS will strive not only to provide fun and educational experiences but also to stress respect for others. As a parent/guardian, we believe that you will appreciate knowing of any problem that your child may experience. MMS reserves the right to suspend or expel any camper from the program who demonstrates serious or continual discipline problems.

All participants must be pre-registered and pre-paid for each week of camp by the end of the day each Wednesday prior to the week attending – late registration will not be accepted.

Then Millhopper Montessori School's Beginner's Summer Camp is for you!

Your child will explore a variety of themed hands-on activities, build skills with songs and games, and gain self-confidence and independence with our carefully prepared classroom environment directed by our experienced Montessori teachers.

June 13 - 17: The Hungry Caterpillar During these five weeks of summer camp, Little House will be adventuring into the stories of Eric Carle through art, music, movement, and play. During Week 1, we will learn about the butterfly's life cycle as we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."

June 20 - 24: Brown Bear, Brown Bear This week we will be exploring the animal kingdom through the world of color as we read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear."

June 27 - July 1: The Mixed Up Chameleon Each day this week, we will read "The Mixed Up Chameleon." We will learn about each animal in the story and explore their similarities and differences.

July 5 - 8: From Head to Toe (No Camp Monday, July 4) This week is about ACTION! As we read “From Head to Toe,” we will be exploring all of the ways we can move our bodies. We will be incorporating yoga, dance, and movement throughout the week.

July 11 - 15: The Very Busy Spider Oh, the webs we will be weaving as we learn about "The Very Busy Spider." We will be exploring many different materials to make webs all around our playground and in the classroom and becoming more familiar with spiders.

Preschool | Ages 3 - 4

*Students must be toilet trained and no longer require a nap.

Ms. Faiza Shabahat Full day 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Enroll your child in our Preschool Summer Science Camp and get a head start on STEM education in an age-appropriate, fun, and educational Montessori environment!

Preschool children are naturally drawn to activities that allow for exploration and discovery. Your child will engage all his/her senses through hands-on, science-based themes presented by our experienced Montessori certified teacher, Ms. Faiza Shabahat, who also holds a Master degree in Botany and Zoology.

June 13 – June 17: Who makes Honey?

During the first week of summer camp, children will take a closer look at Honey-bee and Bumble-bee Life-cycles. They are hard-working insects and have amazing leadership qualities to survive until spring and make an army of workers to collect nectar and change it to honey. We will read books, sing songs, and do coloring along with art and craft activities related to busy insects.

June 20 – June 24: Ocean and Amazing Creatures During the second week of summer camp, the children will explore the three different layers of an ocean and how the types of creatures survive at the ocean's bottom, middle, and topmost layers. The survival mechanism of invertebrates and vertebrates will be explored and explained by performing different experiments, activities and reading books. Art and craft activities help children learn the names of animals living in the water.

June 27 - July 1: Volcanic Eruption and Types The third week of Summer camp will help children learn about the different parts of a volcano and its three major types. Various experiments will be performed, and the movement of Earth plates and the eruption of lava will be explained with the help of videos, books, and coloring sheets.

July 5 - July 8: Light and Amazing Properties (No Camp Monday, July 4) During the fourth week of summer camp, the children will learn about Reflection and Refraction of Light.

Children will see how white light is split into seven colors of the rainbow and how we can make a shadow of an object on the wall by moving the source of light at different distances. Different experiments with mirror and concave lenses would be performed in class. Videos and artwork will help children to understand the concept of light rays.

July 11 – July 15: Amazing Facts about Planets in our Solar System During the fifth week of the summer camp, the students will learn about different planets in our Solar System. They will explore Space, the most incredible thing we can imagine. We will find new facts about stars, planets, and space objects every day. 3-D models of different planets will help children visualize the actual view of the Solar system. Various videos and artwork, and book reading will give knowledge and understanding about our Solar system.

Preschool & Kindergarten | Ages 4 - Rising Kindergarten Ms. Elizabeth Falls Full day 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM The Preschool/Kindergarten summer camp’s focus is to engage the children in theme-related activities utilizing the Montessori hands-on curriculum. They will experience fun, educational activities including music and indoor/outdoor games to continue their love of learning through the summer.

June 13 - 17: A Bug’s Life

Campers this week will explore insects of all shapes and sizes! We will venture into the great big world of creepy crawlies, beautiful butterflies, and more! Come join us as we enjoy this world through games, stories, and colorful crafts! Dress Up as your favorite insect on Wednesday!

June 20 - 24: Under the Sea and Ahoy! Pirate Week

Arrgh! Come join us as we set sail on a Pirate Adventure and explore life under the sea! We will take a voyage into learning about ocean life through songs, stories, and fun-filled art projects! Dress up as your favorite ocean creature or pirate on Wednesday!

June 27 - July 1: Animal Planet

Venture into the animal world where we will learn some interesting facts about some unique animals that live on our planet! Activities include a visit from students enrolled in the Zoo Animal Technology Program at Santa Fe College, playing various games (i.e., animal charades) as well as making animal-themed art and crafts. Come dressed as your favorite animal on Wednesday!

July 5 - 8: Artful Antics and Mad Science (No Camp Monday, July 4)

This week we will combine science activities with the joy and fun of art! We will do fun experiments to inspire scientific inquiry and stimulate their science learning. Artful antics will include creating one-of-a-kind, unique art pieces using natural and repurposed materials. Come dressed as a mad scientist or crazy artist on Wednesday!

July 11 - 15: The Great Outdoors

Come join us as we encourage children to explore and appreciate the intriguing and often mysterious outdoors!

Through hands-on exploration, we will uncover many of these hidden wonders and create fun crafts from natural materials. Nature-based activities will include: going on a scavenger hunt; collecting, observing, and learning about insects, earthworms, etc. (we will set them free!); creating intricate art; and building a fairy house and garden. A surprise guest will also join us as we learn about the importance of bees! We will end our last week of Summer Camp with an Outdoor Game and Splash Day on Friday!!

Afternoon Academics | Age 4 - Rising Kindergarten Ms. Elizabeth Falls Individual Lessons with Ms. Elizabeth Falls $55.00/session, plus after camp program fee of $10.00/hour Private lessons are from 3:30 - 4:15 pm each afternoon.

Lessons will focus on math and language (Pre-Reading/Reading and Handwriting) lessons are open to all Preschool through elementary students.

Lessons are filled on a first come first serve basis and will be offered every afternoon (3:30 - 4:15 pm).

June 13 - 17: Around the World We will "visit" a different country every day in this camp for rising 1st through rising 2nd graders. Each day, we will learn about other countries’ cultures, make a craft, have a snack, and play a game from that country.

June 20 - 24: Nature Week Let’s explore the natural world! This week will be about playing nature games and how we interact with the environment! We will explore ecology and conservation through activities, games, and art. Join us on our adventure!

June 27 - July 1: Culinary Kids Let's get cookin'! Rising 1st through 3rd graders will learn how to make and cook various dishes. Some will be cooked in the oven or on the stove, and some will be a no-bake recipe. Then comes the fun part - we get to taste our creations! We will also make crafts in this camp, too. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD HAS DIETARY RESTRICTIONS.

July 5 - 8: Junior Builders (No Camp Monday, July 4) We'll be using age-appropriate materials to build sculptures, cities, birdhouses, and more in Junior Builders camp! We'll learn all about how to build things - out of cardboard, paper, and wire, to name a few. Join us as we construct objects on an early elementary level!

July 11 - 15: Future Scientists Engage your mind and stretch your horizons through hands-on, lab-based science activities. We will use inquiry-based learning techniques constructed by true scientists to discover the world around us.

June 13 - 17: Let’s Get STEM-y!

This is a week of creative and wacky STEM projects! We'll break out the tape, rubber bands, cardboard, and marshmallows and use the engineering process, collaboration, and iteration to construct "the fastest," "the tallest," or "the craziest" design challenges.

Our "Engineers" will explore unusual and interesting careers in the wide world of STEM. Every day will be a new STEM-y adventure in this summer camp!

June 20 - 24: Science of Summer NOTE: This camp will require parent volunteers to drive students and chaperone. All entrance fees for chaperones are covered.

What do butterflies, bowling pins, and the Summer Solstice have in common? These are just a few of the things our campers will learn about this week. We’ll visit the butterfly garden at the UF Museum of Natural History, spend June 21st at the Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College, bowl a strike at Splitz, and enjoy the refreshing springs and nature walk at Hart Springs. Join us as we learn about the Science of Summer during this summer camp.

June 27 - July 1: Junkyard Wars Each day "Salvage" teams will be given a real-world problem, like soil erosion prevention or creating clean water, and tasked to build something that would help solve the problem. Campers will have to scavenge through our summer camp "junkyard," locate recyclable materials, and use their imagination and problemsolving skills to meet the "build directive." Then, our junkyard salvagers will participate in a friendly, competitive challenge that tests their builds.

July 5 - 8: Construction Junction (No Camp Monday, July 4th) Put your tool belt on and get ready to build! Our "Builders" will be guided through hands-on projects that will have them crafting, constructing, and decorating their works of wood and other materials. Campers will learn about simple and complex machines, use mathematics to measure their materials, and use various hand tools to create their projects. All tool use has adult supervision. Campers can also participate in our version of "Lumberjack Games" and test their hammering and hand drilling skills. Who will have the fastest time and win the Construction Junction Best Builder Award?

July 11 - 15: H2OMG! Additional fee $55.00 NOTE: This camp will require parent volunteers to drive students and chaperones. chaperones are covered.

Grab your bathing suit, sunscreen, and towel for this week of aquatic adventures! Our campers will start the week learning how to bait a hook and catch a fish at the UF IFAS Fishery. Then we will venture out and visit some of our favorite local area springs and swimming holes. We'll spend a day at Aquatica in Orlando, riding Roa's Rapids and winding down the Omaka Rocka water slide. It's going to be a wet and wonderful way to end our 2022 summer camp season!

Community Service Opportunities for MMS Alumni Junior Counselors Earn While You Learn Opportunity to earn community service hours in various camps as needed and learn communication, teaching, and problem-solving skills.

If you are an MMS Alumni, you can volunteer and earn community service hours for high school.

No Fee Expectations: Work 9:00am - 3:00pm, adhere to the school dress code, communicate if you are not able to come due to an emergency, and ability to assist as directed.

Must have attended a previous MMS Summer Camp Acting Workshop OR have theatrical experience to participate - must submit a synopsis of acting experience as part of the application process

This week "It's All About the Character,” as students learn to develop a detailed character, trust their instincts, and understand authentic acting through various exercises and techniques. Students will develop characters for musical numbers, scenes, and monologues. Feedback will be given to each performer as if they were preparing to compete at district and state theatre competitions.

A showcase will be held at Abundant Grace on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm.

Allergies & Food/Diet Restrictions Children with severe allergic reactions to common items (including air borne allergens such as perfumes and peanut oil) cannot be guaranteed an environment free of allergens at Millhopper Montessori School for the following reasons: MMS incorporates food preparation in the Montessori curriculum area of Practical Life.

MMS does not control the food selections that are in each child's individual lunch box.

The cost of tuition for student-to-teacher ratio was not designed to accommodate the care and supervision of a child with a life-threatening allergy. **MMS does not have a nurse on staff. The teachers and assistant teachers are all certified in first aid and CPR. MMS can give medication orally or assist with an Epi-Pen if the parent has filled out the appropriate form for the dispensing of medicine. **If a child is allergic to an ingested substance (such as red food coloring or chocolate) and is old enough to monitor himself or herself, there should not be any difficulty in the MMS environment. It is the parent's responsibility to have alternate food available for birthday parties or the child can be proactive and abstain from special snacks, etc. It will not be the responsibility of the school or the teachers to notify parents in advance of an in-class event such as a special snack or a practical life activity containing food preparation.
