Offering an intimate insight, Melbourne music icons Mick Harvey, Tim Rogers, Henry Wagons (Wagons) and Vincent Vendetta (Midnight Juggernauts) personally present the films that have had the greatest influence on their music.

SAT 19TH

Mick Harvey All Night Long (91 min, 1962)

cinemix

Instrumentalist, composer, producer and songwriter Mick Harvey presents All Night Long, a heated story of love and prejudice in the underground jazz scene of 1960’s London.

This sensual retelling of Othello is syncopated with cameos from jazz masters Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Tubby Hayes and others. Harvey’s work with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Birthday Party, PJ Harvey, Rowland S. Howard and The Cruel Sea has

an overtly cinematic vibe. This event explores that connection in intimate detail. 7pm, Saturday 19 November Unclassified 18+

SUN 20TH

Tim Rogers Billy Liar (98 min, 1963) ARIA-award-winning You Am I front man Tim Rogers presents Billy Liar, the tale of an undertaker’s assistant whose dreams begin to insinuate themselves into his reality.

This British classic, directed by John Schlesinger, provides pointed commentary on social expectations, advertising, family life and authority in the 1960s. No stranger to the screen, Rogers has made various forays into acting and worked on two movie soundtracks. This very

personal screening reveals how and why Billy Liar has captivated a local music legend. 4pm, Sunday 20 November PG

THU 25TH

Henry Wagons

(Wagons) DEAD MAN (121 MIN, 1995)

Master of narrative songwriting Henry Wagons presents 1995 Acid Western, Dead Man. A searing score by Neil Young fortifies Johnny Depp’s performance as frontier-

ensnared Dead Man William Blake. This black-and-white Jarmusch classic is lauded as the ultimate postmodern Western and a career turning point for all involved. Wagons has performed mercurial sets alongside Justin Townes Earle, Okkervil River, Calexico, Cat Power, M. Ward, John Hiatt,

Violent Femmes and others. This event traces the motivations of one of Melbourne’s most emblematic musicians. 7pm, Thursday 25 November R18+

SAT 26TH

Vincent Vendetta (Midnight Juggernauts)

Dawn of the Dead (119 min, 1978) Dawn of the Dead marked a new era for horror, and had a lasting impact on The Midnight Juggernauts’ Vincent Vendetta.

This 1978 classic focuses on the fates of the few hapless survivors of a zombie plague. Rife with social commentary, it features a glittering 70s synth soundtrack from Italian outfit Goblin that sparked a sonic revolution. Join the Midnight Juggernauts’ Vendetta and

discover the film’s nuances with the special Dario Argento European cut. 7pm, Saturday 26 November R18+
