***NUTICE***The change of date of the meeting this month ,fs the 2nd Friday due to the Fourth of July holiday. In August, we will meet as usual, on the first Friday, August 7.****** The program this month will be presented by Bruce Delles. Bruce and his wife, Conni~ were able to attend the 5TH Annual Reptile Symposiu~ on CAPTIVE PROPAGAfION AND HUSBANDRY at the Oklahoma City Zoo, June 11 through 14th~ . Bruce will share his experiences and knowledge of that symposium. I

At the June meeting, the announcement of (3) Members-at-Large positions and Newsletter Editor were open for nominations, Logo for the society was open for submitting ideas, and the members were offered theopportunity-to start purchasing fresh frozen rats from the MHS Delicatessen if enough d~mand. The highl.ight of the evening was a l.engthy presentation by Larry Probst on Rhinocerous Iguanas (Cyclura cornutum). As ane'xample, he ,brought his 3' mal.e RhinocerusIquana. Larry gave a brief history of the iguanas describing the habitdt fr6m which they live indicating that ~any species are extinct or near extinct ion.· Ext.inction is being caused by variolJ.s reasons: .1) Iquanas are huntpd for their meat. 2) Predators. 3) Newly introduced animals to tl'}.e same hahitat having the same diet such as goats and pigs. 4) Man.~ 5) Ha bit a t de s t rue t ion. . He grrve a comparison qf different' types, sizes. and points of inter(:!sts of the Iquanas 'indicating ~prroximate maturity, length, weights and ways of sexing. Cage, equi~ment, lighting, and nutritious diet with cage care and preventive observation discussed in detail. .. Unfortunately, there'is,not a publication or book available to the ·qeneral public on Rhinocerus Iquanas.
