WEEKEND FAMILY FUN
WEEKEND FAMILY FUN Connect with each other and the natural world as your family enjoys hands-on fun with plants. FREE, every Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m. at the Marion Andrus Learning Center. Catch the rhythm of the seasons, with a different theme and activities every month.
SEED SAVERS - SEPTEMBER Become a seed saver and find out how to harvest, store, and replant heirloom seeds. Discover how gardens are pollinated and why it is important to save garden seeds. Create art from seeds to take home with you.
SQUISH SQUASH - OCTOBER Sink your hands inside a pumpkin, squash, or gourd and dissect one. Dig out the insides and take a closer look at plant parts through a microscope. Save some seeds to plant your own pumpkin patch. Sample pumpkin soup in the Harvest Kitchen and take home the recipe.
BLOOMS IN BULBS – NOVEMBER What is under the papery skin? Peek inside bulbs, view them under microscopes, and create art with flower bulbs. Bake garlic bulb toast in the Harvest Kitchen and plant a bulb to grow at home.

GINGER AND SPICE - DECEMBER Add some zest to your weekend and discover plants that spice up and flavor the holiday season. Follow your nose through the greenhouse sniffing out spices and aromatic herbs. Create a scented ornament and plant a fragrant herb to take home.
WINTERGREEN MYSTERIES - JANUARY Delight your senses with the scent of evergreens and sights of winter splendor at the Arboretum. When other trees’ branches are bare it is up to the hardy evergreens to keep our spirits green all winter long. Take home a fragrant evergreen keepsake and a clue card to help you identify evergreen trees.
EXOTIC ORCHIDS - FEBRUARY Escape winter in the warm greenhouse! Search for orchids and other beauties in bloom. Bake orchid flavored cookies and discover the secrets of one of the largest families of flowering plants in the world. Examine orchids up close with microscopes. Create a detailed botanical illustration of your favorite flower to take home.
MAPLE SYRUP MADNESS - MARCH Celebrate the arrival of spring with the sweet sap of sugar maples. Can you tell the difference between real and artificial maple syrup? Take a maple taste test challenge. Learn how to recognize a maple tree from a twig, even before the tree leafs out. Make a maple keepsake to take home. Grab a map and follow the path from sap to syrup on self guided hike.
