Tata Communications Launches Specialised Cyber Security Lab Tata Communications has partnered with SASTRA Deemed University in Tamil Nadu to fund and establish a cyber security lab at the university. Huawei Reinstates Telecom Connectivity in Kerala within Record Time Huawei India, in association with partners, undertook disaster relief initiatives for flood affected sites in Kerala ensuring network restoration and connectivity in record 72 hours. As an immediate response to the flooding situation in 12 districts of Kerala, an Emergency Management Team (EMT) was setup at each customer office to monitor the situation, provide necessary support and guide the 170+ member response team comprising of Huawei and its partners. Overcoming challenges of logistics, accessibility, infrastructure break-downs, disrupted electricity and disrupted fuel supply situations, the team managed to have 1440 sites operational, ensuring network restoration across Calicut, Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Ernakulum, Kottayam, Alleppy and other parts

Upcoming 5G is Set to Propel AR and VR Market in India The launch and adoption of 5G in 2019-20 is expected to boost the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in the Indian market. The 5G networks which can provide a million connections within a square kilometer is expected to take the usage of IoT and the growth of on-demand video services to the next level. The 5G is the fifth gen cellular mobile communications. However, the speeds in these lower frequencies are only modestly higher than new 4G systems, estimated at 15% to 50% faster. The 5G technology is expected to cater to the demand and provide the business frameworks needed beyond 2020. In addition to driving a connected society, 5G wireless technology will bring about socioeconomic transformation through improved productivity, sustainability and well-being. Indian Consumer Exercises Informed Choice when Selecting Mobile Apps: CERC onsumer Education and Research Centre, a leading not-for-profit consumer organization, today, in partnership with Chase India, a public policy consultancy firm, released the report “Understanding consumer choice towards mobile applications”. The report is based on a consumer survey, conducted by Nielsen, designed to understand the application of the Indian consumers. The survey also helped in understanding the reasons driving these consumer preferences. The mobile app usage in India has outpaced the global growth. India has the second-largest number of mobile app downloads in the world, overtaking the US and trailing only China. This report is based on a consumer survey designed to understand the app preference of Indian consumers and the reasons driving these preferences. The report captures consumer preference based on most popular apps identified by Nielsen. The primary research was done in two parts. The first part constituted collation and analysis of data from Neilsen’s smartphone panel ‘On-Device Meters’(ODMs) of 8000 connected smartphone users spread across India. In the second part of primary research, a quantitative survey carried out by Nielsen through interviews conducted with 3776 respondents from urban and rural centers from 20 states.

However, a large user base , especially in the semi-urban and rural areas still are unable to protect their concerns while installing or using apps of their choice. It is the need of the hour that device manufacturers now take responsibility of safeguarding consumers and saving them resources by providing preinstalled apps of choice with fair terms and conditions. App makers and service providers should further ensure that unnecessary and irrelevant information is not asked from the user while installing or using any app and access to consumer data should be fair and well documented. Consumers should also be made aware of the controls provided to them for accessing a given service without compromising their privacy.” Kaushal Mahan, Lead-Technology Practice, Chase India further added, “The mobile app market in India is very competitive. As a result, the Indian consumers are can choose between multiple apps for the same function or service. At the same time, as the internet penetration continues to deepen in India and new users begin to us mobile applications, it is imperative to educate the new users about tools that they can use to protect their data in the digital ecosystem.”
IAMAI Launches Fintech Convergence Council (FCC) to Drive Growth he Indian Fintech sector, valued at around $50 billion, is currently one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. It has witnessed a CAGR of around 22% and today stands well diversified with companies pertaining to payments, insurance, lending and investment among others. However, in spite of the rapid headway, the sector still continues to be highly under penetrated. While this a major challenge, it also presents industry players with a huge opportunity to unlock the untapped market potential. To further spur the growth and facilitate synergy within the fintech industry in India, the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), announced the launch of its newly formed Fintech Convergence Council (FCC). The launch was well attended by dignitaries like Mrs. V R Iyer, Ex- Member of investment and finance, IRDA, Mr. G Padmanabhan, non-executive Chairman, Bank of India, Mr. AP Hota, Ex-Managing Director & CEO, NPCI, Mr. Mohan Tanksale, Ex-Chairman, Indian Banks Association, Mr. Dilip Asbe, Managing Director & CEO, NPCI, Mr. Vijay Chugh, ExChief General Manager, RBI along with more than 70 stalwarts from the BFSI and fintech sector. At the helm of affairs would be Mr. Naveen Surya as Chairman (non-executive) and Mr. Yashish Dahiya as the Vice-Chairman (non-executive). Earlier, in his capacity as the Chairman of Payments Council of India, Naveen has successfully spearheaded the digital payments movement in the country. An industry veteran, he has also been a key member in several government committees such as GIRO committee and Ratan Watal Committee among others. Fintech has made tremendous progress over the last few years but the impetus for the next phase of growth will emerge from the integration of all financial services players. As every company is trying to offer value-for-money product; a good smart phone for the mid-market costs starting from Rs 7000 and goes up. After the entry of Jio, many companies who were providing features phones are switching to providing smart phones as there are fears that it will be difficult for the features phones brands to compete. Our transparent accounting practices, straight forward involvement, infrastructure and understanding of the business and market are our plus points which attracts any company to sign up with us. We are already in talks with some providers of smart accessories or massand mid- segment smart phones whose names cannot yet disclose.” Today, service is very important. Some distributors get it done thru vendor, some thru third party and some thru their own technical people, Mr Soni states, “Service is a very important aspect which many brands taking serious nowadays by opening up their own service centers. If a brand fails to provide service, its survival becomes difficult.” Regarding future plans and focus, Mr Soni asserts, “For the coming one year our focus will be more on selling entry- and mid-level smart phones and also on normal mobile accessories and smart accessories. Our company is growing @ 15-20% on YOY basis. As for GST, it has no direct negative effect on our business, but there is some indirect effect as our dealers in the unorganized sector are having issues. But we feel GST will be good in the long-run. We are looking forward to good growth in our business and expand our portfolio. We want media like Mobility should update the industry regularly about the government policies and market trends.That will help the industry players to stay abreast of the industry scenario in the country.”

PockeBook to Launch their Feature-Rich ebooks in India Soon

Founded in 2007, PocketBook is headquartered in Lugano (Switzerland), currently their products are sold in 35 countries. In an interaction with Mobility magazine Mr. Evgeniy Zaitsev, Sales & Marketing VP PocketBook. SA International shares, “Most of our current customers are in Europe and some in Israel and Turkey. We are getting very good response from the customers. We just arrived in the Indian market and we see the Indian market as very big and fast growing, a lucrative market for our products. Only Kindle is our competitor. In US 40% and UK 10% books sold are ebooks and the trend of reading ebooks is growing, though paper books will continue to have their own share. Ebooks are in fact, much more convenient and also can store a lot of content in a single device compared to paper books. We will launch our product in India in November 2018. Our ebook devices have a pleasant screen with anti-glare technology are comfortable to the eyes of the readers even while reading under sunlight. Our major USP is SD card option which helps to transfer content easily. We are also thinking of offering content loaded SD cards. Next, our devices have more functions for end users to enable them

One of our manufacturing plants has a capacity of producing 100000 devices a month. We have a big storage in Germany and an assembly line in Ukraine. We have several models with different specifications for the use of readers in different countries. In India, we will start with 3 models and expand later depending on how people want. In the last two years in China, 2.5 million ebook units were sold. We expect a similar trend in India in the coming years.” In fulfilling its mission, the company has launched three ambitious projects aimed at promoting readership: the BookLand electronic content store, the ReadRate search and advisory service and the unique KidRead application, designed to involve children in reading, as well as enable monitoring and testing of their literary knowledge. Regarding content, Mr. Zaitsev asserts, “We are focusing more on book-orientation, be it English literature or regional language. Next, we focus more on the regional language ebooks where still there is a gap. We want to provide a better alternative for the ebook brand already existing in the market.
