Damon grew up in tough neighbourhoods where opportunities were scarce, and the pull of negative influences was constant. “To be a finalist among so many talented barbers is an honour,” Damon shares. “It’s not just about me— it’s about representing everyone who’s been told they can’t make it.”

The awards celebrate the best in the industry, highlighting innovation, creativity, and excellence. For Damon, the recognition is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the transformative power of barbering.

Looking Ahead

As he reflects on his journey, Damon remains grounded and focused on the future. He has had dreams of opening his own barbershop—one that’s not just a place for haircuts but a hub for community and creativity. And in 2024 that dream has become a reality as Damon has teamed up with his church group and has created a space, called Rivers Barbershop.

Damon also works hard to help to inspire young barbers, through various opportunities such as becoming part of the Gamma+ Education team. “If I can inspire one person to chase their dreams, to believe in themselves, then it’s all worth it,” he says.
