The Role of the AHC. Advocacy, Connection, Education, and Support

In the ever-evolving world of the hairdressing industry, the Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) plays a vital role in representing, connecting, educating, and supporting professionals across the country.

With its four pillars, the AHC has become a trusted voice and a driving force behind positive change within the industry.

Advocacy is at the core of the AHC’s mission. As the representative of the industry to the government, the council actively engages in advocacy and lobbying efforts to ensure that the concerns and interests of hairdressing professionals are heard and considered. Through their presence in meetings and committees, the AHC influences decision-making processes that impact the industry and businesses. Additionally, the council acts as a voice for the industry in the media, providing insights and perspectives through various channels, including print, television, and radio.

The AHC also plays a crucial role in connecting industry professionals. Through multiple social media channels and events such as the AHC Industry Day on Education and Training, the AHC Leadership Summit and Schmoozefest, the AHC creates avenues for networking, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. By bringing together salon owners, educators, apprentices, students, and industry leaders, the AHC fosters an environment of collective growth and development.

Education and training are paramount to the AHC’s vision. The council collaborates with leaders in education, registered training organisations (RTOs), educators, teachers, and company trainers, to ensure that industry standards are upheld and improved. By listening and communicating with various stakeholders, the AHC stays up to date with the needs and challenges faced by professionals in the field. Through accreditation recognition, the council uplifts the industry’s reputation by promoting ethical business practices, sustainable approaches, and the recognition of hairdressing qualifications.

Furthermore, the AHC provides unwavering support to its members. With unlimited HR advice and a vast library of resources covering business, mental health, and education, the council equips professionals with the tools they need to thrive.

Informative and educational podcasts and webcasts further contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, reaching a broad audience within the industry.

In response to the skills shortage within the industry, the AHC has introduced HeadHunter Recruitment, an initiative designed to assist salons in finding qualified staff. By addressing this critical issue, the council actively works towards bridging the gap between demand and supply in the hairdressing workforce.

Who are the AHC’s members?

AHC members across the hairdressing and barber industries around Australia are accredited salons, sole operators, product companies, RTOs and associated industry suppliers and businesses that share a united vision to promote and protect the industry. We’re YOUR voice, representing our industry’s presence to government and consumers and together we elevate industry standards, reputation and image to create a better future.
