Autobiography Background of growth / I, Lee Wan-Chen, grew up in a family environment focusing on real practice. There are four people in my family; my parents have run a small restaurant for more than 20 years while my younger brother is studying in the senior high school. My parents allowed me to develop my own interest since I was young and they have never interfered with it. As a result, I grew up in the environment of art. I learnt playing the piano for seven years and have learnt art since I was in the preschool. I passed examination for art class in my senior high school and successfully enter university of arts for my undergraduate- degree.

Background Education / I have excellent performance in carpentry art, leather art and fiber technology and I am very interested in devoting myself in handicraft arts. I had the intern in pottery workshop for one month during the winter vacation in my first year of university, and I learnt how to deal with people there as well as the skills and knowledge related to pottery. I applied to enter the product workshop in our department and took the position of general service in the first semester of my second year. The interaction between me and senior schoolmates were very good and I held five-people joint exhibition “TO” with the senior schoolmates 6 months later. I participated in the annual exhibition “Short of” at our department in the second semester of my second year and was

awarded the honor of Reviewer’s Special Award. In my third year, I worked with classmates for the first class exhibition “Night Animal” and was one of the team members of poster promotion group. Later on, I carried on participating in many large or small-scale performance exhibition and departmental exhibition as exhibition participants or curating staff.

Personal experience and traits / My parents have run the small restaurant for more than 20 years and I have started helping them since I’m mature. I have no problem in communicating with people as well as basic cooking skills. Due to the interaction with our customers and the intern experience, I am not afraid of dealing with people. I had a lot of experiences in working as a leader in the class since I was young:the chief,a course helper,a team member of poster promotion group and I am the Vice Event General Coordinator in the Graduation Creation Preparatory Committee. After actually participating in different roles from leaders to team members, I found my personality like water. I can be diplomatic and I can be very tough; mild but not weak.

Study Plan Motivation /

The art in Belgium is well-known and I, who have studied art and design, am always looking forward to going to Belgium, hoping I have the opportunity to visit the beautiful art kingdom in person. I found there are quite a few materials related to the department that I am currently studying, so I decided to submit my application for exchange.

Study Plan /

I would like to submit my application to Department of CĂŠramique because it is closely related to the department that I am currently studying. I am confident that I will be able to bring new sparks into my creation through different teaching approaches in two countries. I am particularly interested in the courses related to ceramic art, glass art and block print. My major in the university is carpentry art, leather art and fiber technology. During my university, I also learnt pottery technology, glass technology and block print art for around one year but I had no opportunity to learn and understand them further. I hope I can understand these interesting courses better through the opportunity of the exchange studying. Because of my studying experiences in pottery technology, glass technology and block print arts, I will be able to catch up in the new learning environment.

10

1. Short-term plan Master my own creation capability and continue practicing processing methods for different materials. Practice french and english every day to increase my language ability in order to achieve effective communication and successful learning.

2. Med-term plan Work hard to study various courses of ceramic, glass and block print during my study and make good use of the abundant resources offered to students by the school. Practice different skills and perform the best result on the final presentation. Learn different knowledge and accumulate life experience through international interactive learning.

3. Long-term plan After completing the course, I am planning a trip to Germany to visit the German family that received me before. When I return to Taiwan, I am willing to share the exchange experience with junior schoolmates. I hope I can set up personal studio in the future and lead the market in my unique style.

Anticipated effect and future development / Europe is full of art and surprise everywhere, and I know it is recognized by people all over the world. Learning in the environment full of arts will be a great help for my future creation.
