5 EASY WAYS TO FIND

Moments of Zen

to cultivate more inner peace (BPT) - From work to working out, kids’ activities to household tasks and so much more, modern life has never been busier. The problem is hectic schedules can lead to unnecessary stress. If you’re one of the many people who feel frazzled on a regular basis, you’re probably longing for a vacation or a day at the spa. Fortunately, there are plenty of easy ways to cut stress that you can sneak into everyday life. From mealtime to bedtime, if you start embracing small moments to be more mindful, you’ll be surprised how fast you can cut down on overall stress. Here are five simple examples of how you can find your own moments of Zen today: MODERNFIT

1. Take a 5-minute walk. Whether it’s getting fresh air or just getting yourself moving, a change of place and pace can reduce stress and give you a few moments to relax, especially during hectic times. For example, take a 5-minute break while dinner’s cooking to walk around the block. Weather not right for a walk? Give your body a quick stretch with an at-home yoga session.

Let your mind wander in the pure and simple. Be one with the infinite. Let all things take their course. - Chuang Tzu

2. Choose quality over quantity. Make the most of your time each day by being intentional with your activities. Whether it’s playing a new board game with the kids after dinner or watching a TV show with your spouse, small quality moments can help you relax and enjoy yourself and your family when at home.

3. Find quick-and-easy solutions. If making dinner for your family seems like a daunting task, choose quick-and-easy options designed to take the hassle out of meal prep, like SeaPak’s Shrimp Scampi. The frozen food aisle is a great place to begin your journey toward finding your happy place in the kitchen. Here, you can find a variety of products that taste great and require minimal prep work, so you can dedicate more time to doing the things you love, like spending quality time with your family.

4. Take time to reflect. When using great-tasting, low-hassle products to make dinner, you’ll be spending way less time in the kitchen. Take those extra moments to reflect on everything you accomplished during your day or week. This will help give you a sense of pride and is a real confidence-booster.

5. Break from technology. Take a break from technology, even if it’s only for 5 minutes. Set down your phone, turn off the television and step away from all electronics. Just giving your mind a break from the active world of technology can reduce stress and help you mentally reset, especially during mealtimes, where being present is particularly important.

These are just five simple examples, but moments of Zen can be found anywhere if you take the time to look for them. Remember, the little moments are what make the biggest impact in life, and by embracing mindfulness, you’re setting the stage to be able to focus on what really matters. MODERNFIT 11

Smoothies that even fruit & veggie haters will love

There’s no more delicious and convenient way to get your daily servings of fruits and vegetables than to add nutritious smoothies to your diet. But, if a fruit or veggie hater in your home is spoiling your efforts to get healthy, try these fun and full-flavored recipes that taste more like tropical treats than food that’s good for you.

The Hulk This recipe makes a refreshing, lush green drink that can’t be beat on a hot day. It’s absolutely scrumptious, but it looks like a wet pile of freshly mowed grass, so naming it after a superhero makes it a bit more appetizing. If you’re trying to sneak this past someone who recoils at spinach, blame the color on the pear. 1 fresh pear, diced ¾ cup low-sugar orange juice ½ cup spinach ½ cup ice, crushed or cubed Blending tips: Ripe pears are best, but any color or variety will do. Make this recipe once, then try it with pineapple juice instead of orange juice. You won’t be disappointed. 22

The Almost Chocolate Shake No one can say no to chocolate, and you don’t have to with a smoothie that’s packed with protein and healthy fats. This recipe is filling enough to make a good breakfast and decadent enough to pass for a chocolate shake. Don’t skimp on the milk with this recipe. The rich taste comes from the combination of dairy with the avocado. Cambodians pour condensed milk over avocado for a decadent dessert and the effect here is similar. The chocolate just adds an extra dimension and hides anything green. 1 cup of chocolate milk, chocolate almond or soy milk ½ of a large avocado ½ banana ½ cup ice, crushed or cubed Blending tips: Low-fat milk works well in this recipe, but to decrease the sugar content or to make it dairyfree, use a low-carbohydrate chocolate dairy beverage or an alternative non-dairy chocolate milk. Chocolate almond milk is especially satisfying.

Carrot Mango Paradise Someone who turns their nose up at carrots won’t notice them in a smoothie blended with fruit. By choosing compatible tastes that are slightly sweet like carrot, mango and orange, the palate isn’t startled by the presence of a root vegetable. This smoothie blends up to a beautiful orange color and is packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants. Pop in a tiny umbrella and enjoy. ½ cup shredded carrot 1 cup diced mango ¾ low-sugar orange juice ½ cup ice, crushed or cubes Blending tips: Chunks of raw carrot don’t blend well and aren’t easily disguised, but shredded carrots work well with no softening. Use a vegetable peeler to whittle down a whole one for the brightest taste or buy them pre-shredded for convenience. If you use frozen mango, forgo the ice.

Kale-Licious ½ cups kale, stems removed 1 cup water cup blueberries ½ cup chopped pineapple ½ banana 1 tablespoons almond butter ½ cup ice, crushed or cubed Blend the kale and water until smooth. Add the blueberries, pineapple, banana, and almond butter and blend again.

These nutritious smoothie recipes have passed muster with even the most confirmed vegetable haters. While avocados are technically fruits, their color and lack of sweetness make them an official green thing and that lands them on the “do not eat” list for many carnivores, so working these in is a noble effort. Enjoy these as recipes as written, then be daring and try your own. Cheers to better health!

Tasha Ponce  @tashaponce My clients and their success are very important to me. I do my best to be as involved as possible to make sure they meet their fitness goals and stay on track. I typically communicate with them on a daily basis. I like to be very encouraging to my clients because I really believe in them.

Cinthia Tapia Mascorro  @eternitycm

I teach different formats during the week such as Zumba, Sculpt, Cardio-Kickboxing and Boot-camp. I like to combine cardio, sculpt, strength and endurance exercises. It consist of one minute exercises, rest for 10 seconds and repeat. I usually like to do 2-3 different exercises at a time, do each exercise for one minute then switch to a different one and repeat 2-4 times! By doing intervals you bring your heart rate up which means you burn more calories and more fat, plus you work your entire body!

Dana Dwire  @dana.verlinde

Find something you like to do and stick with it. Go for improvement not perfection in the beginning. You can’t expect to be an expert at something right away!

Ashley Foley Cheyenne Pecoraro  @blondebarbiefit I’d describe my coaching style as unique and audacious like me. I try to do what’s best for everyone and that fits them best. Wer’e all different so not everything works for everyone. I make sure to find a system that fits their lifestyle the best I can. My goal is to help them achieve their goals whatever it takes.

Courtney Long  @courtneymlong91

I like to help others reach their goals. I enjoy motivating and pushing others to stay on track. I like to show them that they have someone on the same journey as them to help support them. A lot of people do not receive support from family or friends when they are on a fitness journey and I like to be the person there to help cheer them on.

 @fit_iowa

My coaching style would fall in between being your best workout buddy and your cheerleader. I provide a vast array of exercises; one session you could be doing circuits, then the next you could be doing tire flips and battle ropes. Whatever the session you are guaranteed not to get bored. I love getting to know my clients in and out of the gym, and building a strong relationship.

Stephanie Rowe  @stephie03 I am very technical minded and feel that it’s not only about the mechanics of fitness and nutrition. Digging into the clients why and obstacles to make sure we are finding the best program that will bring the desired results and success! There are always ways to overcome obstacles and being a cookie cutter coach using cookie cutter plans are not the way to get progress. I totally believe in variety and diversity to challenge people to be the best version of them possible.

Hessie Roberson

Logan Lynch

 @logiiibear

I would describe my coaching style as compassionate and energetic. I love getting to know my clients and coaches on a deeper level than just fitness, because we are more likely to be successful if we have a connection to those who are holding us accountable. I love to keep things fun, because that’s what health & fitness should be about. It is a lifelong journey, so why not enjoy the process? I am always dancing around and being weird to show people that exercise can be something you learn to love, especially when you are doing it surrounded by an inspiring and motivating community. In a world where judgement and negativity are such commonplace, I hope to be an energetic shining light to show people that life can be better when you make your health a priority and surround yourself with the right tribe. We all have a fire within ourselves, and I love helping people find it, so they can let it burn bright.

 @hessielena

I love promoting a sense of togetherness among my clients when hosting monthly accountability groups, I love helping people that struggle with the similar issues that I did earlier in my journey. 30

Danae Vasileiadou  @danae_vas

I believe that the most important thing is my relationship with my clients. I want them to trust me and I will do anything for that. I am working hard on building strong relationships with my clients. I believe that people are capable of anything and I am there to help them achieve what they have been dreaming about.

Monique Shapiro  @monique_shapiro_fitness

Kaylin Boileau  @thehappyhungryyogi

I have a very realistic approach to everything in life and that translates into my coaching style as well. As a trainer to other new moms I encourage my clients to take “baby steps” (pun intended) when getting back into fitness post pregnancy. Having typically taken time off from working out and having possible restrictions/limitations setting a realistic approach to their goals not only is the smart approach but also gives my clients more confidence in their abilities without their expectations seeming overwhelming or unachievable.

Quality over quantity. Calm and clear. Approachable. Genuine. Above all else fun and keep it real. I’m a Breast Cancer survivor, almost a year now and my mission as a fitness pro is to motivate, educate and inspire women like me. I’m a fully Certified PT and TRX Coach in Toronto, with an in-home functional training studio. I provide personal training, small group classes, and online training in my virtual studio. MODERNFIT
