Modesto has an amazing selection of local donut shops in town and we love them all! There’s nothing better than some donut hole appetizers, a fresh baked donut of your favorite flavor, and a chocolate milk or Martinelli’s cider from the fridge to start off (or end!) the day. Each person has their favorite donut shop that they support and more often than not, it’s because of the neighborhood you grew up in and where you had donuts as a kid. We know there are some friendly rivalries in town and we had four teenagers visiting from France this summer courtesy of Modesto Sister Cities International – so we decided to do a blind taste test! We set up a blind taste test that included Maple Old Fashioned, White Sprinkle Cake Donuts, and Chocolate Glazed for the French visitors to try and we had a unanimous winner. Drumroll please….. WE DONUTS! WE DONUTS is open 24 hours a day at 2207 Scenic Drive and took the prize with the best donuts according to our French judges. The all-around favorite was the classic Chocolate Glazed Donut, but all were delicious. (This was a personal “win” for me because I grew up going to WE and they’ve been my favorite donut shop for over 25 years. I promise the judging was fair and no bribes on the part of the facilitator!) We love all our donut shops in town and know each place has unique flavors and bakes to try – so use this as a sign to go to your favorite local donut shop and pick up some donuts to indulge in all while supporting the places that keep us running 24/7

State Fair Flair...

We would like to extend our congratulations to some of our local businesses for their exceptional achievements at the California State Fair. Notably, Dying Breed Brewing in Oakdale received Gold for their Wanted Red or Alive and Imperial Red Ale, and also took home 2 Silver and a Bronze ribbon, an impressive feat! Additionally, Morgan Territory, Tracy, won Silver for their Super Bloom Kölsch along with a couple of Bronze, and Dustbowl Turlock, received a well-deserved bronze for their Therapist Imperial IPA. We must also highlight Sciabica Olive Oil Modesto, who won Best of Show for Flavored Olive Oil for their Co-Milled Basil, showcasing their outstanding quality. We want to congratulate all who participated in the competition and apologize if we missed anyone from the 209 area, but great job to all!
