Do you enjoy MoBand Concerts in the Park?

I do. What does MoBand have to do with back to school or our future?

Where do the MoBand musicians come from?

These are all great questions. We all love that there is this great music series with a band that has been around for over 103 years and plays the music of John Phillip Sousa, classic songs and hits from today. But how are we so lucky to have these? MoBand would not exist if not for music in the schools. This is the simple truth. Where do you think all of our saxophone, clarinet and trumpet players come from? Think about it, without music in the schools, we would not have the 100 plus musicians that play each week in the summer at Mancini Bowl. See how important this is? Many local music teachers also perform in MoBand.

This is really unique. How many cities have a MoBand? How many cities still have Music in the Schools. What happens when the budgets get tight?

Schools cut the arts programs. This is exactly the wrong thing to cut. Studies have shown that schools with arts and music programs deliver higher test scores and smarter kids. Why does this matter? Music is math, it is geometry, it is patterns, it is

There are a lot of kids that are unable to get new school supplies and clothes, so please make sure that you can donate to some of the local resources that will help all of our kids get off to the right start. The Modesto Gospel Mission is a place that can assist kids in our community. Here are a few other places that can help.

Donate to your teacher’s need list and make sure that our kids have every chance to me successful.

Each year, school supplies and backpacks get more expensive. Thanks to so many people that have donated to help supply school kids in need with backpacks. School starts soon so reach out to these places ASAP. Sierra Vista Children’s Center is distributing backpack and school supplies to many of the children that in the variety of programs/services they provide such as Sierra Vista’s family resource centers, clinics throughout the County, non-public schools, mentoring programs, and foster care.

Successful cities need cultural arts, and you can only have success here if the cultural arts are taught in schools. Music, civics, social responsibility, problem solving and acceptance is a big part of a well-rounded education. These are the people that should be our next leaders and our community will be better for it.

You can support music in the schools by communicating with your local school boards, school superintendents, and our local government. Please show up and support local school music performances.
