MODLIN CENTER FOR THE ARTS presents SHOUTHOUSE ABOUT THE PROGRAM Tonight you will hear a wide breadth of music, from excerpts of large, through-composed works to straight ahead songs that hold room for improvisation. You’ll hear elements of new music, jazz, hip hop and pop; we’ll showcase new arrangements of original material from our vocalists, and we’ll throw in some covers too. The variety of our set serves as a window into how ShoutHouse functions - as a true collaboration between artists from diverse genres. Though much of what we play is composed by one or two artists, what you hear tonight is transformed from its original form on the page, as it is shaped by the artistic identity of each member of this ensemble. We will be calling out songs from the stage and talking you through many of their stories. If you’d like to learn more, please visit www.shouthousemusic.com. Tonight’s performance will run approximately 110 minutes, including intermission. ABOUT SHOUTHOUSE ShoutHouse is an NYC-based collective of musicians, bringing together complex grooves, poetic hip-hop, high-octane vocals, and instrumental solos in a way that is distinctly their own. Their core group includes two emcees, a singer, and a band of a dozen instrumentalists from hip hop, jazz, and classical backgrounds.

Founded by composer/pianist Will Healy, ShoutHouse’s sound is an “absolutely unique blend of postrock, art-rock, and indie classical” styles (New York Music Daily), with a roster of musicians from many corners of the NYC music scene. Recent projects include a 30-minute symphonic piece for ShoutHouse, emcee, and choir, premiered at Roulette Intermedium in May 2022. ShoutHouse’s first full-length album, Cityscapes, was released on New Amsterdam Records in 2019, and called “one of the most creative projects you’ll hear all year” by Ted Gioia, author of “The History of Jazz.” ShoutHouse has performed at The Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kimmell Cultural Center, National Sawdust, and (le) Poisson Rouge, among many other venues. Their music has been featured on radio programs around the world, including WNYC’s “New Sounds” with John Schaefer, WBAI’s “Making Music” with Jordan Maclean, and “44 Charlton” with Julian Fleisher. Since its inception, ShoutHouse has received support from New Music USA, The Juilliard School’s entrepreneurship program, the Brooklyn Arts Fund, Jerome Fund for New Music, the Queens Arts Council, The Sparkplug Foundation, and others. ABOUT WILL HEALY Will Healy is a composer, pianist, and improviser known for his diverse musical explorations influenced by the vibrant music scene of New York City. He is the founder and artistic director of ShoutHouse, a collective of hip-hop, jazz, and classical musicians. Healy’s symphony for wind ensemble and multi-genre soloists, “Passages”, was premiered in 2023 and will be performed by numerous ensembles around the country in 2023-24. He is also an accomplished pianist, specializing in contemporary music and the works of J.S. Bach, and his repertoire includes the complete Goldberg Variations and Well-Tempered Clavier. Healy also serves as the composerin-residence for Midsummer’s Music in Door County, Wisconsin. He has received recognition and awards, including the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, W.K. Rose Fellowship, and Caron Foundation Music Award. He earned his M.M. in Composition from the Juilliard School, studying under Samuel Adler, John Corigliano, and Steven Stucky.

ABOUT CITYSCAPES Cityscapes is the first full-length album from the New York City-based, eclectic powerhouse band ShoutHouse. The album features the work of three composers, five rappers (MCs -- Nuri, Akinyemi, spiritchild, Ade, Jai), and over twenty instrumentalists from New York’s classical, world, and jazz scenes. Weaving threads of classical, hip hop, and jazz, this music tells the story of our city, its colonial and geological past (“Mannahatta”), its awe-inspiring constellational nature (“Grand Central,” “Ancient Tools”), its flowing perpetuity (“Ants,” “Viscous”), and a vision towards its future (“Rebuild”). The project is directed by ShoutHouse founder Will Healy, who also composed the majority of the tracks on the album. ABOUT THE SOLOISTS Quilan “Cue” Arnold is a Union City-based movement artist who creates systems advocating for liberation. He’s worked with esteemed dance companies, like onCUE Chronicles and Camille A. Brown and Dancers, and recently premiered “The Third Rail” at New Jersey City University in 2023. As the CEO of onCUE Chronicles LLC and co-founder of The Good Foot Podcast, he’s a multifaceted creative. As an educator, he’s promoted Street/Club Dance philosophy, U.S. history, and anti-racism at institutions such as Alvin Ailey and the University of Texas-Austin. To explore his work, visit www.cue4christ.com and onCUE Chronicles at www.oncuechronicles. com. Alfredo Colon is a New York City native. The saxophonist was born to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic and grew up in Washington Heights. He studied under musicians such as Lee Konitz, Jason Rigby, Steve Wilson and Jacob Sacks. He has performed alongside musicians such as Henry Threadgill, Moses Sumney, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Nduduzo Makhathini, Amirtha Kidambi, Harish Raghavan and many others. He has performed at esteemed spaces such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Roulette Intermedium, BAM, The Jazz Gallery, National Sawdust and a myriad of others. Nuri Hazzard is executing plans when he’s on the microphone. Originating in Baltimore and being raised in the DMV, Nuri Hazzard aims to help people

get a better understanding of themselves and of each other through his music. “I want the bounce I give to be a total-being experience…mind, body, and soul.” His roots in hip-hop really are embedded in a love for good music. His parents were young and forward thinking so he grew listening to everything from Fleetwood Mac to A Tribe Called Quest to Masters at Work. He’s been studying this game for years, and writing with a true artists’ sensibilities. Nuri gives a fresh combination of head-snapping musicality and verses that make you feel it in your atoms, that melds creating undeniable music. Dizzy Senze is a lyrical assassin and multimedia artist. Hailing from The Bronx, Dizzy is no stranger to the constant need for expression. She has engineered for powerhouse corporations (Nickelodeon, Interscope Records, etc.), photographed top-tier artists and companies (KRS-One, Sesame Street, etc.), and shared the stage with legendary artists (Kendrick Lamar, Talib Kweli, etc.). Whether through jam sessions or big stages, Dizzy’s goal is always finding new ways to change the world. Connell Thompson’s silky tone, soulful chops, and high energy performance have made him a staple in the New York music scene. Born in California and raised in New Hampshire, he first started playing clarinet in grade school, picking up the saxophone in high school in order to join the jazz band. He moved to New York City (NYC) in 2006, pursuing music and earning his Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance at New York University. Since then, he has performed professionally around the city and the world. His renditions of SZA, Rihanna, Drake, and afrobeats artists Runtown and Burna Boy have gained him an enthusiastic following both in the NYC subways and on social media. He has performed worldwide with many eclectic groups and venues including international festivals with Nigerian Afrobeats superstars Wizkid and Fireboy DML, The Blue Note with Motown band Decade of Soul, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC with classical/ hip hop fusion group Shouthouse, and The Otis Mountain Festival with his original Balkan party band Tipsy Oxcart. Hannah Zazzaro is nothing short of a female vocalist powerhouse spanning genres from Jazz, Pop, Rock, Soul, Folk, Funk, and has graced a variety of stages from Broadway to Festivals, and everything in-between! Her unmatchable versatility gives her the ability to bring down the house with heavy-hitting pop classics and dance tunes, or deliver an elegant performance that pairs perfectly with any luxurious high-end setting. Hannah performs as a Duo (Guitar or Keys) or with her full band featuring regional professional artists (Bass, Drums, Guitar, and/or Keys). Her recent collaborations on social media have garnered millions of views.
