Welcome

Welcome to Isla ECO, where you can live together with nature in effortless co-existence. On this island, your questions of ‘what if’ are answered, and we join with animals and restored habitats to live in this new world of sustainable fellowship. Here, you can discover where we find our recycled materials and gather castor seeds to make ECO frames. Walk through our restored fields surrounded by 1.4 million trees, planted with your help. Just make sure that you always travel through Isla ECO with three golden rules in mind: LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD, and DO GOOD.

Biobased Workshop

Here at the Biobased Workshop, you can learn all about how our ECO Biobased frames are made. Help us gather up some castor seeds, and then tour our workshop where frames are made from the seeds’ oil, a non-food oil that comprises 63% of the frames’ material. We make ECO Biobased frames colorful and sustainable, so that you LOOK GOOD while you FEEL GOOD! The frames have a functional yet invisible spring hinge, giving them a lightweight, comfortable fit.

Recycled

Arts & Crafts Legend has it that Isla ECO was discovered by the explorer Dame Ivy Brooks when she was forced to land her plane during a hurricane. She loved the island so much that she decided to stay! In fact, some say that her old plane’s materials became some of the first resources reused for our ECO Recycled frames. When you come to our Recycled Arts & Crafts area, you can see how our frames are handcrafted from repurposed stainless steel and plastic materials. All ECO Recycled styles feature great color and texture choices, and they have comfortable mono-block two-teeth hinges. Recycled raw materials make up 95% of our ECO Recycled frames, so you can be sure your frames follow the three golden rules of ECO: LOOK GOOD, DO GOOD, and FEEL GOOD.

One Frame - One Tree ONE FRAME ONE TREE

Here on Isla ECO, we’re proud of our trees; they store carbon and give us lots of oxygen for nice fresh air. When ECO was “born recycled” in 2009, our mission was to plant one tree for every ECO frame sold – but we couldn’t expect how successful our mission would be. With your help, ECO has now planted over 1.4 million trees! As part of our ONE FRAME – ONE TREE pledge, we work with the NGO Trees for the Future to plant trees and teach viable farming techniques. Your ECO frame helps us on the journey to a better, more sustainable world, and demonstrates a commitment to giving back to both the environment and its inhabitants.

Our Story MODO was born in 1990 in Soho, New York, under the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, Alessandro Lanaro. Since its beginning, MODO has evolved into a company that designs, manufactures, and distributes a successful portfolio of house, designer, and contemporary lifestyle brands – all under the common denominator of design and innovation. Our brands include MODO, ECO, Derek Lam, and several others. MODO is a global company, with offices in New York, Milano, and Stockholm. Today, MODO drives the eyewear industry’s effort in sustainability and social responsibility. With initiatives such as producing frames with 95% recycled content or biobased materials (our ECO brand), planting a tree for every frame a customer purchases (ECO’s “One Frame – One Tree”), or giving free spectacles to those in need (MODO’s “Buy a Frame – Give a Frame”), MODO is a pioneer in merging style and purpose.

MODO combines: Inspiration, independence, and the passion of a boutique company with the structure and logistical efficiency of a larger organization.
