CAMP INFO CAMP DISCOVERY welcomes campers ages 6–12 (entering
grades 1–6). We’ve crafted the ultimate age-appropriate camp experience. Each group will be capped at 20 campers. Please be sure to book early, as these spots will fill up quickly!

T-SHIRTS Campers are required to wear Camp Discovery
t-shirts. One FREE shirt will be included with registration for any multi-day camp, and additional shirts may be purchased for $10 at check-in or in advance through our guest experience department.
FIELD TRIPS A permission form will be required for field trips. CHECK IN (9:00 A.M.)

be expected to sign in their child at registration using their Brightwheel code.
CHECK OUT (4:00 P.M. TO 5:00 P.M.)
• Each afternoon, check out begins at 4:00 p.m. on
the east side of the Museum outside at the bottom of the stairwell on SW 4th Avenue. Parents checking in or picking up a child between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. must go to the Information Desk. Parents picking up between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. must visit the Discovery Center.
• You must sign your camper out using your Brightwheel code.
• Only adults indicated on the Emergency Contacts section of the registration form will be allowed to check out a camper (NO EXCEPTIONS).
BRIGHTWHEEL is used for check-in/out and to communicate with parents throughout camp. This will allow you to add authorized adults to pick up/drop off, view photos throughout the day, and contact camp staff through text. Visit mods.org/summerrsvp for more information.
BEFORE (8:00–9:00 A.M.) & AFTERCARE (5:00–6:00 P.M.)
A daily fee of $5 is charged per child for before/ aftercare. An additional fee of $10 per child for each additional 5 minutes of care will be charged after 6 p.m. Parents checking in or picking up a child between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. must go to the Information Desk. Parents picking up between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. must visit the Discovery Center.
LUNCHES AND SNACKS Campers may bring their own
bag lunch that does not require refrigeration or preorder a box lunch. One-day orders are not allowed. A simple snack will be provided twice a day and water is

available at anytime. Campers may also bring snacks from home, especially if they have dietary restrictions including kosher.
BOX LUNCH INFORMATION MODS is pleased to offer our
campers a pre-ordered box lunch option through the Museum’s Elements Café. The full sandwich lunch box costs $8.00 per day and includes a sandwich, bag of chips, cookie and a juice pouch.
• Lunch orders must be placed one week prior to the
start of camp. Lunches cannot be purchased on the same day camp starts.
• Your child will receive YOUR selected sandwich
option daily for the length of camp. For example, if your child is signed up for a four-day camp and turkey sandwich is selected, he/she will receive a turkey sandwich box lunch on each of the four days of camp at a cost of $8.00 per day.
• Lunch orders cannot be changed once they’ve been processed.

WHAT TO WEAR AND WHAT TO BRING Campers must wear the
official Camp Discovery t-shirt with comfortable clothing that is suitable for indoors, outdoors, physical activity and getting dirty. Sneakers or closed-toe shoes are required.
• The IMAX theater and classrooms can be cold. Campers may want to bring a long sleeve shirt or hoodie.
• It is recommended that campers bring insect repellent and sunblock.
• A reusable water bottle will be provided by Camp Discovery.
• Please be sure your camper’s name is on everything they/he/she brings to camp.
WHAT NOT TO BRING Toys, electronics, cell phones, iPods
and other valuables should not be brought to camp. The Museum is not responsible for any personal items that are lost or stolen.
FRIDAY IS EXPLORE STORE DAY Campers will have an
opportunity to visit the Explore Store on Friday. If you’d like your child to visit the Store, please give them a small amount of money to spend when you drop them/him/ her off on Friday. Please make sure your child’s money is in an envelope with their name on it. If you select not to have them/him/her participate we will provide another activity for them/him/her. Campers will store their purchase in their cubby until they are signed out.
ACCESSIBILITY AND ACCOMMODATIONS Our goal is to make
Camp Discovery accessible to all. We welcome campers who may need accommodations if the child is accompanied by a caregiver and with proper notice. ALLERGIES AND MEDICATIONS We strive for a safe camp
experience for every camper. Please note: Museum staff cannot hold or dispense any medication for campers. Please notify the Museum of any environmental or food allergies. With proper notice, accommodations can be made for students with allergies. The Museum is not an allergy-free facility.

Take a visit to our new Makerspace The Hangar and use tools and technology to discover fun and unique ways to turn your everyday trash into reusable treasures.
Mars 2020 Celebrate the Mars 2020 Rover launching with a week filled with space science fun! Discover the mysteries of the Red Planet. Find out how difficult it is to control a rover that is thousands of miles away as you and a teammate maneuver a rover through a martian obstacle course. Visit our StarLab planetarium and get your own personal tour of our amazing solar system.

Solve It! Keep your eyes open for clues as we start this camp with a mystery and spend the entire week solving it. Follow in the steps of a CSI team. Learn about crime scene investigation techniques. Collect evidence, view hair and clothing fibers under microscopes, and analyze fingerprints and handwriting samples. Everyone loves a good mystery!

Kitchen Chemistry Fun and Science are the main ingredients this week! Explore how chemistry, biology, and technology all play a part in the world of food and nutrition. Create edible juice bubbles, use chemistry to cook edible slime, and make your own solar ovens for some afternoon snacks. Put a cherry on top of your week with a walking field trip to a local shop to learn how fudge is made.
Summer Games We’re celebrating the 2020 Summer Olympics this week! Learn how human and animal athletes alike use science to function under extreme conditions. Campers will compete in their own games and challenges including the MODS Robot Olympics.

Hogwarts Fantastic Beasts Hippogriffs, Basilisks, and Dragons Oh My! Come discover the magic of the wizarding world and the creatures that live there. Learn about bats, owls, and other creatures that live and work in Hogwarts. Take a course in Care of Magical Creatures, dissect an owl pellet to discover what Hedwig’s been eating, and get an up-close and personal with the Museums own “Fantastic Beasts.”

Design, build and race a solar powered boat.

COMING TO MODS
June 13–September 20, 2020 The wildly popular children’s PBS television series is brought to life in an adventurous exhibit called Wild Kratts: Creature Power! Museum visitors will jump into the Wild Kratts’ world, joining animal experts Chris and Martin Kratt and a cast of heroes and villains as they explore the secret lives of extraordinary creatures. Visitors will be immersed in animal habitats from around the globe, discover incredible creature powers and go on a mission to foil the villains’ nefarious plans by using the powers of science. The exhibit focuses on cultivating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills and will engage children and adults of all ages.

2020 Turtle Walks Your adventure begins at the Museum with a presentation about turtles and then continues at Fort Lauderdale Beach where Museum expert guides lead you to sea turtle nesting grounds. We can’t guarantee a nesting sea turtle will be spotted on every walk, but when it happens, it’s a natural wonder you will never forget! Parking is available in the Museum bus loop on a first come, first- served basis. Participants must be at least 9 years old. Space is limited so book early!
