The future is here at MODS, and we are poised and ready!

Entering the year 2020 feels like we are arriving at a major collective milestone. We are leading MODS into the future by featuring mixed reality, or ‘XR,’ which includes augmented reality, virtual reality and spatial computing, a leading-edge makerspace called The Hangar, and infusing 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity and critical thinking to help prepare south Florida’s future workforce.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES Robert B. Lochrie, III, Esq. Chairman Rick J. Burgess, Esq. Vice-Chair Johnathan Robertson Secretary Brian Clay Treasurer Kenneth Stiles Immediate Past Chair

In 2020, we’ll also travel back in time to more than 165 million years ago, as MODS is going prehistoric! Visitors Joseph P. Cox to the Museum can step into the sand-covered shoes of a paleontologist at our Expedition: Dinosaur! traveling exhibit presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, opening January 25. Then, head to our concession stand and grab a popcorn as Dinosaurs of Antarctica roars into IMAX in February. As the first original large-format dinosaur film in more than a decade, Dinosaurs promises to be epic. Viewers will explore prehistoric creatures through next-level computer-generated imagery on the largest IMAX screen in south Florida.

Have you been to MODS for a visit lately? Prepare to be amazed.

MAKING AN IMPACT

MAKING AN IMPACT

Give a Memorable Gift Did you know that MODS, as a nonprofit organization, relies on donations and community support to help fund daily operations, including animal care for ambassadors like Joey the Otter and his friends?

MODS is home to four rescued North American river otters, who live

and play in their own purposefully-designed, two-story indoor/ outdoor habitat here at the Museum. When Joey, our official mascot, was rescued as an orphan, he didn’t know how to swim, so our team of animal experts taught him through special training!

Join our MODS Squad!

From their whiskers to their webbed feet, the otters are interactive and

Discover how YOU can make an impact as a MODS volunteer or staff member. We are always looking for energetic people to help us continue to connect our community with inspiring science and to deliver a dynamic guest experience. MODS has opportunities that fit many skills, experience levels and interests.

friendly, and they represent the larger mammal population that lives all around us in Florida. As visitors are entertained by these semi-aquatic mammals, our family of river otters also serves to educate guests on what it takes to keep Florida ecosystems vibrant and healthy for our native species.

How can you make an OTTERLY IMPORTANT IMPACT with North American river otters?

Visit mods.org to learn more!

Now more than ever, it is important for all of us to live responsibly

and make sure that there is always room for these wonderful creatures to thrive. Otters are resilient animals, especially considering their dependence upon healthy watersheds and fish stock to survive and thrive.

Volunteering at MODS Our volunteers and community partners contribute more than 28,000 hours each year! The Museum often seeks weekday volunteers for educational, general office, customer service and other opportunities. If you, or someone you know, would like to help contribute to the Museum’s mission, please visit mods.org/volunteer and download the volunteer application, call 954.713.0921 or email us at modsvolunteer@mods.net.

Donate $50 or more and receive an OTTERLY ADORABLE plush!

You can do your part to protect the animals: • Dispose of trash properly • Pick up trash you see • Use non-toxic cleaning chemicals and • Utilize reusable plastics and water bottles • Swim by MODS’ Giving page to support our otters

Why Give? Through open doors and engaging outreach, MODS initiates a chain reaction. From inspiring discoveries, animal ambassadors and beach cleanups to independent living and career aspirations, an experience at MODS is a community catalyst for change with a sustainable impact. With a donation to MODS, you will support our commitment to lifelong science learning as well as all the animals that call MODS their home.

MODS is taking flight to a whole new height. The popular To Fly Aviation Exhibit Hall, sponsored by the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust, was expanded and now features The Leighton Family Hangar, an innovative, aviation-themed, high tech makerspace, and Inspiration Takes Flight, a 7D film presented by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. The highly-attended ribbon cutting was held on October 4.

Congratulations to the 37 high school juniors who were enrolled in this year’s App-titude Program at MODS. Apptitude is our high-impact, two-year internship that exposes high school students to careers in computer science and engineering while preparing them for future jobs. MODS also welcomed the second year APP-titude students who are returning to start their senior year in the program. This program is offered at MODS by The Salah Foundation STEM Center for Education and Career Development and is underwritten by United Way of Broward County.

The Hangar is a permanent makerspace that fosters the development of new skills, where visitors are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and tinker. It is a fusion of a science lab, engineering workshop, innovation workshop, and art room; and was designed to be flexible and accommodate a wide range of collaborative activities. Daily creation and innovation in The Hangar are fueled and sponsored by Citrix, the official technology partner of MODS.

November 14, 2019

MODS hosted another Discovery After Dark 21+ science social where guests explored the new high-tech and newly expanded To Fly Aviation Hall featuring a cuttingedge makerspace. Attendees created and collaborated with hands-on STEM experiences, including playing Ms Pac-Man with pumpkins as controllers, flew on indoor hoverboards and experimented with augmented reality with Magic Leap technology.

SAVE THE DATE! The next Discovery After Dark will be on February 20. To purchase tickets, please visit bit.ly/2Z2YMrP, call 954.713.0930 or email booking@mods.net.
