A non-stop ride via kayak, bike, train, hot air balloon, zipline, kiteboard, hiking boots and more, Into America’s Wild visits some of the most beautiful but untamed landscapes of America, from the lush coastline of Oregon and the wilds of Alaska to the ancient canyons of the Southwest and the rolling hills of the Appalachian Trail.

Sea turtle released! The Museum’s Life Sciences Department released
MODS’ ambassador sea turtle, Georgie (aka George), into the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach this past October. Staff report that George was eager to start her life in the great outdoors. Youth in the Museum’s MODS Pods e-learning program bid George a bon voyage, designing suitcases for her travel. We congratulate our entire Life Science team for raising such a healthy sea turtle! The Museum’s newest sea turtle ambassador, Georgia, comes from the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton. Georgia was hatched at the lab as part of an ongoing study, conducted by Dr. Jeanette Wyneken, of the ways that environmental factors affect the gender of turtle hatchlings. MODS STEMobile is on the road! The MODS STEMobile, the Museum’s new makerspace on wheels, is igniting a spark for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) for youth ages 3 and up. The van, complete with interactive screens and cutting-edge equipment, is traveling across South Florida to schools, community sites, after school programs and libraries. The STEMobile recently visited the Marriott Harbor Beach where Thomas Hatzipavlide, assistant manager for recreation, said “I really like their approach because it’s science-based learning, but it’s also fun. It’s a huge win-win where we’re so happy to have this partnership with MODS.” According to MODS President & CEO Joe Cox, “The concept for the STEMobile started when the Museum opened its new Makerspace in 2019. With the impact of COVID, suddenly having a mobile museum that could be out and about throughout the community became that much more important.” Building, inventing and understanding the design process is at the core of STEMobile learning, from coding robots to constructing eco-friendly animal structures. The goal for the STEMobile is to deliver programs to 50,000 youth annually, especially youth in highneed communities and Title 1 schools. The STEMobile was made possible by a grant from the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, with additional customization supported by Weston Nissan, Weston Volvo Car and The Extra Catch.
