WOODEN SPOON 1st Thursday newsletter FEBRUARY 2019

WITH THANKS TO OUR FEBRUARY SPONSORS

Intro from chairman Welcome to our February edition of our ‘First Thursday Newsletter’. We are now looking forward to another successful year in opening projects and raising funds in the Worcestershire. Last year we spent over £40k of monies on two projects. Both projects will enhance the lives of disadvantaged children and we will continue in the same vein in planning fun events to raise much needed funds. We will soon have details of the projects that we would like to support in 2019! Tonight we will be holding our first Casino evening and in 2019 we will again be holding the ‘Big Quiz’, a Wine Tasting evening and the ‘Race Night’. We plan to add a Rugby Dinner this year. ‘First Thursday’ continues to go from strength to strength. We now are selling out our monthly events so to guarantee your place it is essential that you become a member of the charity. We are delighted to say that we do have sponsors lined up in the short term for ‘First Thursday’ but if you wish to sponsor an event then please drop us a line. We do have over 200 members in the region and over 500 followers on twitter so our ‘First Thursday’ is great value all round. lease continue to support Chris who is running in the 2019 P London Marathon! We are always looking for projects to support. If you know or are aware of a local children’s charity that may need support please do not hesitate to let us know. Better still get them to come along to First Thursday! We are also looking for companies/clubs that may wish to make us their ‘charity of the year’ for 2019. If you would like to support us please let us know. If you are not a member of Spoon (yet) please do fill out a form. Your help really makes a difference. Please visit our web site www.woodenspoon.org. uk or look out for us on social media to see the great work of the charity in Worcestershire and the rest of the UK and Ireland. Thank you for your continued support; it really makes a difference. Remember – all the monies raised in the region stay in the region!

Chris Orr taking on the Marathon for Wooden Spoon - update Training is going well in the run up to 28th April. I’m now several weeks into my training plan, with shorter runs and gym training during the week and longer runs - currently between 10 and 15 miles, but increasing to 21 miles! – at the weekends. I am, so far, injury free although my knees and hips are beginning to ache (I’m turning 30, but it feels more like 80!) Wooden Spoon do amazing work supporting disabled and disadvantaged children and so it’s vital that I raise as much money as possible for them. I’m still some way off my £2,000 minimum – that money goes to Wooden Spoon nationally to be distributed to all of the regions. Every penny over £2,000 will stay in Worcestershire and be used to help children locally. Please dig deep and donate what you can at: www.justgiving.com/chris-orr-wa And if you see me out and about running, beep your horn or shout hello in support!”
