WOODEN SPOON 1st Thursday newsletter OC TOBER 2019
WITH THANKS TO OUR OCTOBER SPONSORS
Intro from chairman Welcome to our October edition of our ‘First Thursday Newsletter’. The Rugby World Cup is now in progress with all home nations still firmly in the competition. We have continued to be active. Worcester Rugby Club (our partner club) held a business lunch with guest speaker Ian Robertson. The club presented us with a cheque for £500 which is wonderful news. Our next events are now open! We have a rugby World Cup breakfast at our partner club Worcester Rugby Club on October 12th. Enjoy England v France on the big screen with a full English breakfast. Please book soon as this event is selling out fast. We will also be holding out 3rd Race Night. This event has been sent out by Laura. This always sells out so please book quickly. As well as our own beloved region the charity is active across all regions. In total we raise over £1.2 million per year on around 70 projects and it’s good to be part of the Spoon family. Please take time to look at our website www.woodenspoon.org.uk where you find details of recently opened projects across the whole of the UK. ‘First Thursday’ is now fully established as the best networking event in Worcester. We are delighted to say that we do have sponsors lined for ‘First Thursday’ but if you wish to sponsor an event then please drop us a line. We do have over 200 members in the region and over 700 followers on twitter so our ‘First Thursday’ is great value all round. We’ve been seeking for companies/clubs that may wish to make us their ‘charity of the year’ for 2019. If you are not a member of Spoon (yet) please do fill out a form. Your help really makes a difference. Please visit our web site www.woodenspoon.org.uk or look out for us on social media to see the great work of the charity in Worcestershire and the rest of the UK and Ireland.
Thank you for your continued support; it really makes a difference. Remember – all the monies raised in the region stay in the region!
How can you help? Simply join Wooden Spoon for just £50 a year.
A note from our Sponsors Worcester Scientific is a nanotechnology sensor company and is part of the Spectrum Environmental Group based in Worcester.
We have recently joined with the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) at the University of Birmingham as part of the Digi-Rail programme. The main aim is to develop our ultrasensitive sensors for the new Hydrogen fuel cell trains.
Our FBAR sensors can detect extremely low levels of target substances or properties. The sensors can be used to detect physical items such as temperature, light, radiation. Also, chemicals such as Hydrogen, Oxygen, Benzene or biological items such as pathogens, viruses, pollen. This capability results in the very early detection of dangers, long before they become an issue for people or processes, allowing faster intervention and prevention.
Worcester Scientific has developed a comprehensive range of Air Quality Monitoring products. These provide comprehensive real-time online data. The systems can be used indoors (IAQ – Indoor Air Quality) or outdoors, monitoring city pollution or industrial boundary levels. Our approach provides consistently accurate air quality data to ensure employees and the public are not being exposed to unhealthy conditions. Employers can show they are providing a suitable well-being environment for all.
Worcester Scientific was chosen to join the first WLEP BetaDen tech accelerator programme at the Malvern Hills Science Park. During the programme, we were shortlisted for ‘The Engineer: Collaborate to Innovate Awards’ in the ‘Defence, Security and Aerospace’ category, narrowly beaten by Rolls Royce and DARPA! Both multi-billion operations.
