Intro from chairman Welcome to our February 2020 edition of our ‘First Thursday Newsletter’. Spoon is in a very exciting period. We have one project in the build phase with another about to start very soon. These projects are at Dines Green Primary School in Worcester and St Bartholomew’s in Stourport. Both these projects will enhance the lives of the children and we are delighted to be supporting both schools who do such a fantastic job. When we open these projects, we will make sure you get an invite. The challenge is now for us to raise further funds to support future projects. The needs of our beneficiaries don’t go away so we will continue with our best efforts. The committee will continue to put on events, and we will need your support! If you are having a golf day or a cake sale, we will happily be the recipient of funds raised. All the monies you raise will stay in the locality!
Our events for 2020 are now open! We have our unique quiz on April 23rd at Worcester Rugby Club (Weston Fields). Teams are selling fast so please contact Laura soon to book your place. Other events will follow throughout the year such as the Wine Tasting and the Race Night as well as the firmly establish First Thursday. We are also delighted that James Howard from Haines Watts will be running the London marathon this April raising funds for Wooden Spoon. Sponsorship is always available for events so please let us know and we will assist. We would also be delighted if you would consider us for your ‘Charity of the Year’. Spoon nationally is in great shape. In total we raise over £1.2 million per year for around 70 projects and it’s good to be part of the Spoon family. James Howards marathon for charity James Howard is Running 26.2 Miles for Wooden Spoon Worcester “On Sunday 26 April I will be running 26.2 miles around London trying to get to the finish line of the 40th London Marathon. I am doing this challenge for the fantastic Wooden Spoon Charity. As a rugby player myself I have always followed the work done by the wonderful charity and wanted to give something back to the sport. I recently (semi) retired from the sport with the birth of my 2 sons and am hopeful that one day they too can feel the joy and comradery of joining a rugby club.
I wanted to do a challenge (not that having 2 boys under 2 isn’t challenging enough) so have taken one of the charity places to run the marathon this year. I did the Marathon once before in 2011 when I was younger and fitter and vowed that I would one day do it again. That time is now!” Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help James cross the finish line.
