WOODEN SPOON 1st Thursday newsletter J U LY 2 0 1 8
WITH THANKS TO OUR J U LY S P O N S O R S
Intro from chairman Welcome to our 4th edition of our ‘First Thursday Newsletter’. We continue to be active in raising funds and spending the monies on projects in the region. It’s been a busy month or so. We have held a fundraising event at Bottles in Worcester loosely based on tasting wines from the Rugby World Cup countries. This was a terrific event kindly hosted by Richard Everton and I’m sure this will now be an annual event. We were delighted to go and officially open the Interactive Roadway for a wonderful special school in Hereford http://www.schoolswire.co.uk/ public/blackmarston986.html.nocache. Chris Pennell did a great job in opening the project and the children and staff of the school will enjoy this project for many years. Later this month we will open the Riverside School project. http://www.riversideschool.co.uk/. Look out for further details soon. BLACKMARSTON SCHOOL

A note from our sponsors FOLK2FOLK is an award-winning Peer-to-Peer lending platform for local and rural businesses.
We match-make local and rural businesses looking for finance to grow, develop or diversify, with investors who earn a 6.5% p.a interest rate, paid each month, and the unique reward of knowing that they’re helping local businesses.
We are a champion of The Local Lending Movement because we want to help facilitate the long-term prosperity of rural and local communities. Since we began in 2013, FOLK2FOLK and our Lenders have provided hundreds of rural businesses access to finance to grow, develop or diversify which has contributed to the creation of local jobs, increased tourism, employment of local contractors and incorporated the services of local professionals. We believe that simple and efficient access to finance is a major factor in enabling farm business success, particularly in the current economic and business climate.
FOLK2FOLK Lenders have funded loans in excess of £233m to UK business since 2013. The minimum investment in a FOLK2FOLK loan is £20,000 and all loans are secured against UK property or land. Peerto-Peer lending is not a bank or deposit savings product and is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme: investors’ capital is at risk. FOLK2FOLK is authorised and regulated by the FCA.
Blackmarston School project opening On 20th July, committee members John Gibson and Laura Bligh went over to open one of our latest projects with special guest, Chris Pennell. The project was an interactive road safety education and play area of which Wooden Spoon Worcestershire donated £25,000 towards. It was fantastic to see the project up close with it’s working pelican crossings and traffic lights. This will really help the children to understand road safety in everyday life and you could see from the looks on their faces while they whizzed around on their bikes how much they were enjoying the new facility!
Laura Runs the Rock and Roll Marathon Earlier this year committee member, Laura Bligh, ran the Liverpool Rock ‘n’ roll half marathon on behalf of Wooden Spoon. A self confessed hater of running, this was not an easy challenge for Laura to take on. We are really pleased that she raised over £500 for the charity, all of which will get spent here in Worcester. If you would like to raise money for Wooden Spoon Worcestershire on your next challenege, please get in touch with Vince Hopkins vh@brigroup.co.uk
World Cup Wine Success On Thursday 21st June , Wooden Spoon organised a wine tasting for 55 people hosted at Bottles Wine Bar (New Street) by Richard Everton. Wooden Spoon Chairman John Gibson said “ We had another great night. There were some rules around wines from rugby playing continents such as Australasia, Post Brexit Europe and of course the British Lions but to be honest these faded as the evening progressed. Apparently an Italian won the competition so there is a first time for everything. Richard Everton was a great compère and I would like to thank him and his excellent staff for ensuring all had a great night. All monies raised by Wooden Spoon on spent on Children’s Charity projects within the county. We always welcome new members and it is a bargain at only £50 per year”
