The project is a conceptual study envisioning high-density development on a group of parcels adjacent to a large lake. Parcels 1, 2 and 3 are owned by the client-developers, and the study involved integrating parcel 4 & 5 as a plug-in/plug-out scenario depending on future acquisition of land.

Responsibilities: • Analyzed design program feasibility • Led detailed 3D modeling work in SketchUp • Prepared presentation packages for the client • Managed staff in Oakland meet project deliverables
Later, as an alternative design exercise parcel 4 was also envisioned to be a police headquarters with on-campus residences that would seamlessly plug in with the other developed parcels. Building Use Diagram KUSHAL MODI PLANNING & ARCHITECTURE EXPERIENCE

City Green Center SUZHOU, SHANGHAI REGION, CHINA
URBAN DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE
The project is comprised of two complex triangular sites connected with bridges on multiple levels. Adjacent to a large lake, the project is a unique approach to shopping mall design where the retail experience, although typical on bottom two levels, is substantially different on the top two levels by establishing strong visual connections to the lake and integrating the green roof as a gradual extension of the shopping experience. The design translates the building into a one of a kind destination for residents of Suzhou to experience retail and entertainment without ever leaving nature.
Responsibilities: • Preparing project schedule and meeting deadlines • Leading coordination process with landscape architects, MEP consultants and structural engineers • Completing reference and scale studies • Managing and supporting design staff • Studying building code and analyzing design feasibility All renderings for this project are created by a professional visualization company based on a detailed 3D SketchUp model KUSHAL MODI PLANNING & ARCHITECTURE EXPERIENCE

Thesis: Connectivity, Integration, Adaptability Three Strategies for the Urban Transformation of Jack London Square neighborhood, Oakland, CA
UC BERKELEY MASTER OF URBAN DESIGN WORK
The Jack London Square neighborhood has the potential to serve Oakland as a primary transportation hub for the city and East Bay. In that role, it can attract major investments to integrate housing growth and address major regional environmental issues such as sea level rise. The framework for the urban transformation of the neighborhood depends on three issues delineated from an intensive site study – Connectivity, Integration and Adaptability.
California High Speed Rail network
Urbanization vs. Open Spaces
At-risk Infrastructure with 55” Sea-Level Rise
Families without Kids

Studio Work: 4th & King Street Concept Study Accommodating for an ever-growing population, San Franciso, CA
UC BERKELEY MASTER OF URBAN DESIGN WORK
As the population of the San Francisco Bay Area projects to reach the 9 million mark by 2035, the need for dense infill development is ever apparent. This studio focused specifically on exploring the removal of the I-280 vestigial freeway segments near the 4th/King Caltrain Station in San Francisco and preparing for Caltrain electrification and the introduction of high speed rail. In addition, the design exercise envisioned high-density housing and commercial office spaces on the parcels liberated from the removal of the freeway and created a bold, albeit romantic, vision of the City by the Bay showcasing the integration of transportation and land use.
