ayle Szuchman, a wedding and event planner, and Diana Palmentiero, a social media specialist, entered the online wedding concierge business because they realized just how daunting it is for busy, engaged couples to find the right professionals to help them plan their dream wedding. The co-founders of Fairfield County Wedding Concierge created a locally focused business that identifies unique local venues in which to host bridal shows and professional networking events. Their forte is connecting busy,
engaged couples to boutique local wedding vendors through bridal shows, events, social media and a hyper-local directory. The duo also curates unique products for their online bridal boutique, sourced mainly from Fairfield County bridal purveyors. Once again, they will be showcasing their skills at an exclusive event, the Second Annual Audubon Greenwich Bridal Fête. This unique experience will allow engaged couples the opportunity to see exactly what services and products bridal vendors will be providing at their wedding-all
in one place. Szuchman says, “We expect demonstations from floral designers, makeup artists, hair stylists and cake decorators, to name a few.” What’s more, engaged couples will get to sample food and drinks while strolling through the beautiful spaces and grounds of the Audubon Greenwich. “We have met so many talented and unique Fairfield County bridal professionals through our networking events,” the duo explains.“We are thrilled that many of them will join us at the Bridal Fête. We are also thrilled to partner this year with Moffly Media as our exclusive media partner. As both companies focus on supporting local businesses, it is the perfect ‘marriage.’ We invite engaged couples to join us October 20th at the Audubon Greenwich. It’s not just a bridal show, it’s the Bridal Fête!”

What’s
Trending? Lisa Vorce Reveals What’s Hot Now
Q. Are weddings going more “personal” for 2019-2020?
A. Yes! Our clients are all about infusing personal touches. We’ve done it all … from having our clients’ grandparents serve as ring bearers/flower girls 10
to cleverly incorporating factoids about the wedding guests into the event. At one of our weddings in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, we hand-painted signs along the river to entertain the guests as they walked from the ceremony to the
cocktail reception. We had facts like, “37 of you have MBAs,” “6 of you are involved in community agriculture and are leaders in the farm-to-table movement,” “11 of you earn your

living as artists and creative souls.”
Q. Are you seeing a return to classic ballroom weddings or are destination weddings still in vogue?
TOP: ©ELIZABETH MESSINA; BOTTOM: ©AARON NOVAK
A. Classic weddings will always be on trend. However, our clients still tend to run for the hills from the ballrooms and opt for unique outdoor locations throughout the world. We love juxtaposing classic elements with unexpected elements from local artisans wherever we are in the world. For example, at a recent wedding in Mallorca, we paired traditional heirloom silver pieces with hand-thrown terracotta pieces from a local artisan. Beautiful and so unexpected!
Q. Are couples trending back toward splurging on one big focal statement cake rather than over-thetop dessert spreads?
A. A big focal cake
will never go out of style, but there are so many ways to add variety. Rather than a “dessert bar,” we love displaying small platters of desserts on the side tables or coffee tables in our after-
party lounges. Less produced, and gives a more residential vibe.
Q. As far as linens go, it seems that velvet is cropping up for all seasons. Are you a fan?
A. Velvet is always a
beautiful option, but for warmer climates or summer weddings, our clients are choosing to go with hand-painted linens from Italy!

SaytoYes the Dress WHEN IT’S TIME TO schedule an appointment to view bridal gowns for the first time, we’ve gathered a few pointers to make the visit more productive and fun.
1
Make Your Choice Before Inviting Other’s Opinions If you’re thinking of inviting your motherin-law, your sistersin-law and a gaggle of girlfriends bridal shopping, you might want to hold off until you’ve had a chance to go in first yourself and shop with a clear head. Too many opinions can
12
spoil the visit or cloud your judgment. You want to wind up with a dress that really says “you,” so limit your initial dress entourage until you’ve narrowed down your selection of your preferred styles. You can always schedule a second visit to bring the moms, your bridesmaids and even some bubbly to make it memorable.
2
Know What You Want to Spend Before you step foot in a bridal salon or atelier, figure out how much you are
prepared to spend, and factor in more than just the ticket price of the gown. Understand that a headpiece and veil can be significant expenses, as can a good pair of bridal shoes and jewelry, not to mention undergarments. Those extra costs can really add up, so consider “something borrowed” when it comes to the jewelry or accessories.

Things to Know Before You Go Wedding Dress Shopping
and even put your hair up before you arrive at the bridal boutique. This is a day to look and feel clean and pretty so that you can visualize how you may ultimately look on your big day. Also, most bridal shops have bras and bustiers in the fitting room. If you are thinking you might like a strapless style, bring your own for best fit. Don’t forget a pair of heels in your size.

4
Shop for Your Best Assets When trying on dresses for the first time, think about necklines and styles that have flattered you in the past. But don’t be afraid to try on dresses that are a little bolder or more “over the top” than you’ve tried before. The key is to find a special dress that flatters the shape and frame of your body and that has some sort of “wow” factor. Concentrate on finding silhouettes that accentuate your best assets, whether it’s your neckline, your bust, your back or your arms.
5
Befriend Your Bridal Consultant When considering a bridal salon, ask a few friends for their recommendations. Ask not only for the name of the salon but for their pick for a helpful consultant. Call and schedule an appointment instead of dropping in unannounced so that your first visit will be devoted just to you. It goes without saying, but be nice to the consultant, even if you are having trouble finding a flattering dress, as they not only will be helping you with finding the right look, but they will be your ally when dealing with any fitting snafus or other challenges along the way.
A
Few More Tips:
• Bring a few photos as inspiration to help your consultant find styles that fit your parameters. • Try to avoid those frenzied sample sales and crowded weekend shopping Choosing a bridal gown is an important and expensive undertaking. It’s no time to be rushed or pressured into buying a gown that you don’t really love. • To make the process calm and enjoyable, schedule an after- work or early morning appointment when you’ll get the best service and undivided attention.

Setting the Scene Talking Wedding Décor with Stefanie Cove
We recently caught up with Stefanie Cove, creative director of Stefanie Cove and Co., a global events production company, to talk about wedding décor. Q. What trends are you seeing in terms of color schemes and top colors for florals and décor?
A. I see us moving
away from the green and white palettes. Clients are asking for
14
more pops of color and interesting floral and botanicals. I predict you will see less typical arrangements and more loose, growing-fromthe-table compositions with flowers that aren’t traditionally mixed together.
A. Not only should a florist be able to do beautiful work, but they should have verifiable production skills. Ask if they physically build any structures used to elevate florals and backdrops, or are they familiar with oasis tricks, etc. When reviewing portfolios, look for versatility. If all the photos look the same, the designer is unlikely to leave their comfort zone. Also, a florist who is open to working with an event producer/ designer and other vendors is always a plus.
@HANNAH THOMSON
Q. What should a couple look for in a floral designer? Any tips for reviewing portfolios of projects or pitfalls to avoid?
Q. What are Important elements in designing a wedding to match the bride’s and groom’s personalities?
A. As a designer, I try
to really soak in both the groom’s and bride’s aesthetic personalities by going to their home, seeing how they dress, meeting their friends and family, etc. This way, we can really incorporate each of
their personalities and preferences while weaving them together to create the perfect balance. Listening is a big part of figuring out the intricacies of their history and relationship.
Q. How does a couple go about decorating a venue on a budget?
A. The best way to
do this on a budget
is to mix in the little details that reflect you and your fiancé most. Whether it is in paper items, more whimsical touches, a kitschy detail here or there, or even your favorite foods or desserts, make sure the event is a reflection of you both! BLING
Put a Ring on It!
S
Go Big or Go Home
Large solitaire center-stone “statement rings”are still the most popular choice for engagement rings. For round, brilliant-cut rings, it’s all about encircling smaller diamonds around the larger stone. Popular shapes right now: emerald-cut, oval, cushion and pear cuts are back with a bang. Simple settings are key for a true classic look, with extra side stones for balance and symmetry. 16
TOP: ©LILBURD/ADOBE STOCK; BOTTOM: ©ALINNAN/ADOBE STOCK
hopping for an engagement ring? Before you hit the jewelry stores, we asked the experts about what’s trending now when it comes to engagement rings. Bottom line: The ring you choose says a lot about your personality— from traditional solitaires (classic), to colored stones (risk taker), to mixed metal settings (trend setter). Spend time online and a pattern will begin to emerge. Bring a few photos on your hunt, as many jewelers can get or make the ring of your dreams, even if it’s not on display in the store.
1 9 1 0
Save the Chocolate for the Cake
When asked about colored diamonds, top jewelers said to save the “chocolate” for the cake. If you really want a colored diamond that wows, try a fancy yellow, one of the most soughtafter colored stones. Millennials have also been going mad for emeralds, rubies, sapphires and opals, which are all trending.
Vintage is Hot
If you appreciate fine craftsmanship and seek a one-of-a-kind ring, check out Edwardian and Art Deco-inspired rings. You can look for the real deal at antiques stores and online, or shop for a vintage-inspired look that melds a new stone into a vintage-style setting.
Have you ever heard of a shield-cut or portrait-cut diamond? We hadn’t either. These are angular alternatives that are flattering and offer the illusion of being longer. Mod jewelry designers are turning out rings grouping unexpected shapes like trapezoid, half-moon or teardrop for a unique, artistic effect.
Heavy Metal
As if you needed one more thing to choose, rings come in a variety of metals. Traditionally, gold was the top choice, but for about 20 years, platinum ruled the roost. Today, mixing metals is all the rage, and you’re apt to see variations with rose, yellow and white gold, or even oxidized metals for a mod finish, especially with stackable bands.

the more foundation and makeup you apply, the more upkeep it’s going to require. I like to use the least amount of foundation to achieve the results we want. I always start with Dermalogica’s Active Moist oil-free moisturizer to ensure a smooth
long-lasting base for makeup. I love Face Atelier Ultra Foundation because it looks like skin and can be layered for light-to-full natural, long-wearing coverage. I love blush applied high on the cheekbones in natural tones of peach, pink and plum, and lips with a touch of pink or plum. Remember, most brides wear white or ivory, and that tends to wash you out,

Q. A-List inspirations? Name some recent bridal inspirations from the celebrity scene, e.g. Meghan Markle, and tell us what you liked about their looks.
A. I loved Meghan’s
natural, glowing makeup ... although to be honest, I’ve never worked with a bride (I’ve worked with about 500) that wanted so little makeup. Most brides like a tad more definition and color to their faces. I love the makeup looks of Beyoncé, Adele and Gigi and Bella Hadid— all sexy, natural glamour.

©BYCARI/ADOBE STOCK
If you want big lashes, make sure you choose an artist that shows lots of big lash photos on their website. And always have a trial. Bring photos and don’t be afraid to vocalize what you like and what you don’t like. Ask tons of questions and take photos of each look at the trial. Also, make sure you connect with your artist; he or she will be with you on one of the most important days of your life.
an amazing makeup pro is to ask your friends for referrals. Another way is to search the internet. Look for artists that feature the makeup looks that you like.
Clients to Note :
Q. Falsies? It seems
are essential for most brides— they make the eyes pop in photos. However, you have to be careful with extra-thick eyelashes; in photos they can make your eyes look smaller. So, if you’re dreaming about using extra-thick lashes, be sure to have a trial and take photos to see how the lashes photograph.
Beauty Tips FROM DAVID David says, “On her wedding day, every bride should look like an enhanced version of herself, not a totally different person. Your husband wants to see a beautiful version of you walking down the aisle, not some Kim Kardashian wannabe.” • A subtle sparkle on the eyes, is perfect for an evening wedding. • Keep the lips and cheeks soft so the look is elegant and not Instagramish. • Glossy nude lips and defined eyebrows add the perfect amount of definition to your face. • Be sure to test out your eyeliner and make sure it’s 100-percent waterproof; you don’t want that line to smear if you shed a few wedding tears. L
ike every couple, you want your wedding to be meaningful and memorable, an event that your friends and family will talk about for years to come. We spoke with wedding planners who said that the most fun and meaningful weddings are the ones that let the couple’s love story unfold
through personal touches that reflect the pair’s roots and passions. How did you meet? Did you bump into one another on a beach in Florida, at a business meeting in Manhattan, or through an online dating site? If the origins of your significance, try to weave a little something about that story
into your wedding celebration. Or, think about your hobbies and passions and draw inspiration from them. Along with creating a memory box for cards and photos, or a sign-in board where guests can offer good wishes, these meaningful touches, below, were among our planners’ favorites. They included:
A golf- inspired wedding. The groom was from Ireland, and he is crazy about golf. The couple chose to hold the marriage ceremony on a beautiful local golf course at sundown with bagpipers in kilts playing in the distance.
A Latin-inspired celebration, where the couple displayed their roots with brightly colored papel picado (cutout tissue paper banners) hanging in the venue, a Cuban cigar bar and a Cuban band, which kept the party going all night long!
A buzz-worthy celebration for a beekeeping bride who created a signature cocktail called “The Bee’s Knees,” put up chalkboards with bee-sayings like “Bee mine” and “Queen Bee” and, gave out tiny jars of honey tied with yellow-and-black-checked ribbon.
