A Building becomes architecture only when the mind of man consciously takes it and tries with all his resources to make it beautiful, to put concordance, sympathy with nature, and all that into it. Then you have architecture. -Frank Lloyd Wright

Within Studio Seminar groups were tasked to explore the impact that robotics and automation may have on the reintegration of the original properties of wood into the architectural, engineering and construction industries. By utilising computational and parametric design it is possible to create customizable non-standard geometries that can have a real impact on modern construction with one of the oldest building materials.

Upcycled Catalan Timber strived to conceptualise, develop and envision a state-of-the-art process utilising both emergent software and hardware technology to answer the question: within the current lifecycle of Catalan timber, is there a potential to add quality and function to offcuts through the application of computational design, robotics and automation?

LIMITATIONS The envisioned process featured an industrial grade vacuum gripper which for the prototyping was simply not feasible. A traditional actuated gripper was required to be developed, as we were to cut a minimum of 2 – 4 sides per piece of material, it would require an additional place and pick step. Additionally, the nature of the material meant there was no guarantee that we would be able to physically pick the pieces for assembly if the sides were at irregular angles. For this reason, we developed an internal pneumatic linear actuated gripper that required holes in a single face of each member. Allowing up to 5 faces to be trimmed in the process, as well as increasing the number of producible variables for design input.

EatrhsonG [Professional] Hospitality . Commercial . Mixed-Use Kochi, Kerela 1,030,000 sq. ft. Earth Song is a master plan for three distinct parts of the Smart City Kochi master plan. The tree sites have a high water table, and required the master plan to account for rising water levels and high parking numbers. As a response, design for the north parcel floods the site, and the south parcel continues the tree line of the area. While the resort is a low, two storey building, with a series of circular sky lit courtyards. The courtyards are landscaped with trees and water bodies, some containing the vertical circulation and others expanding to form larger programmed areas.
This was a DARC studio project, where I worked under the supervision of the principal architect, along with three architects and an intern. My contributions to the project were: 1. Research on the design language and concept. 2. Developing a location stratgy of each parcel in response to the site conditions. 3. Designing the hospitality parcel based on the design language set across the commercial and mix use parcels. 4. Rhino and Grasshopper modelling of the curved forms 5. Photoshop and Illustrator renderings for client presentations. 6. 3D printing the hospitality model and inital block models for two parcels.

The two parcels have a unique response to the site. The North parcel responds to the frequent floodingon site with water reservoirs, creating flowing facades of water. The south parcel is a mass of rock that has been sculpted by the wind and trees of the site.

DiamondFOreSt [Professional] Commercial Surat, India 3,500,000 sq. ft.
This project is in response to the need for a new Diamond Bourse for the COURTYARD TYPOLOGY diamond merchants in Surat, India. The requirement for 4,500 office units of varying sizes, to be connected at every floor, at every level, necessitates a continuous circulation loop. The building forms a bent loop around 8 acres of natural ground to be vegetated with local trees. A diagrid structure envelops the building, forming the structural and shading device at the same time. INDENT ON THE This was a DARC studio project, where I worked under the supervision of EAST-WEST the principal architect, along with three architects and an intern. My FACADE TO MINIMIZE contributions to the project were: EXPOSURE 1. Rhino and Grasshopper modelling of the exterior. 2. Photoshop and Illustrator renderings for client presentations. 3. inital block models. The public functions and amenity functions are nestled within the courtyard and outside the. In contrast to this, the office towers follow a unitized grid to achieve the maximum efficiency of leasable office space. The building creates a large central courtyard. The mass surrounding the courtyards has two width, 18m and 32m, based on its orientation. The rectangular courtyard is then indented on the east and west facade. to decrease the true east and west exposure of the building. Finally, the mass is completing by reducing the heights of the mass to mark the main entry points.

The initial design ‘Interlink’ is designed by the architects and is analysed by the Artificial Intelligence. The design will be assembled with the help of robotic arms and 3d printers . Based on the initial Use of the Interlink design, feedback wil be sent back to the Artificial Intelligence. The A.I. will redesign based on the input from the use to make more usable design and would be proof read by the Architect before executing the second phase. Phase by Phase the design will correct itself to enhance the experience of the user. Hence the user will ultimately be the designer.

Urban Entertainment Centre (UEC) can be defined as family-oriented entertainment destinations. These centres combine shopping and recreation with entertainment to form an overall experience. Retail needs entertainment to draw people in and entertainment needs retail to support the overall operation. Urban Entertainment Centers have combined both the shopping and recreation with entertainment to offer an overall experience to the visitors. Retail needs the entertainment to draw people in and entertainment needs retail to support the overall operation. Hence UEC falls on the crossroads of both the entertainment and retail industry. The entertainment component in UEC consists of -Flea Market -Ferris wheel -Gokarting & Videogames -Cafeteria & Bowling -Aviary -Food Court & Shops -Concert Hall -Hotel -Musieum -Mall
