FOSTER+PARTNERS ARCHITECTURE Research,Experiment, and Innovation Conference + 2 days' Workshop BAU Beirut Arab University -Tripoli campus Lebanon CONFERENCE FRIDAY 9:00 AM TO 3:00 PM WORKSHOP SATURDAY 9:00 PM TO 3:00 PM SUNDAY 9:00 AM TO 3:00 PM
FOSTER + PARTNERS LECTURES 1st Keynote lecture The work of the applied research and development group “ARD” in Foster + partners Cases: UAE Pavilion in Milan expo and the New Mexico airport Lecture summary Foster and partners, one of the largest architecture practices internally, have managed to stay ahead of the competition for many years. The practice is on the frontier of innovative design thanks to it is dedicated research and development teams and numerous research collaboration. The lecture will describe the recent work and history of the Applied Research and Development team at Foster + Partners. Through project examples like the UAE Pavilion in Milan expo and the New Mexico airport, the lecture will show how integrated design teams can combine human intuition and computational rigour to generate performancedriven innovative optimal design options. Lecturer KHALED ELASHRY Design systems analyst, ARD, Foster + partners Technical tutor at the Bartlett school of architecture, University College London Developer of Open source robotic controller “scorpion”
FOSTER + PARTNERS LECTURES 2nd Keynote lecture Algorithmic generative system that generate projects of high-rises in foster + partner Cases: prototype – tower Lecture summary System of algorithms - bases on deep researches and experiments – generates innovative architectural projects and modern prototype systems of high-rises with optimized properties for different environments and functional programmes Lecturer LORENZO VIANELLO Design collaborator with OMA, Studio Fuksas, UNStudio and Foster+Partners. 2005 - 2009 Design tutor at Inchbald School of Design, London Geometry consultant at London South Bank University Co-director at AA (architecture Association) Rome Visiting School
2nd Keynote lecture Adaptive Architecture and Computational design in foster + partner Cases: algorithms in foster Lecture summary The lecture focuses on Data Driven Design Methodologies, Autopoietic Generative Systems and Post Rationalisation techniques, while exploring potential scenarios for complex non‐ linear geometrical manipulation via coding, evolutionary solvers, physical computing and robotic programming. Lecturer
MARIOS TSILIAKOS Design systems analyst, ARD, Foster + partners Architect specializing in Computational Design Bartlett U.C.L., the Architectural Association, Southbank University London, N.T.U of Athens and Lecturer at University of Nicosia
BAU LECTURES 3rd Keynote lecture TRIALOGUE "Static architecture vanishes when the trialogue is always on" Cases: students' projects "responsive and kinetic Architecture in Rome" Lecture summary Computational technology is rapidly developed. It provides strong capabilities to change life mechanism and the way we act, think, communicate and interact in real life. In parallel,
architecture re-acts itself in response to the constant change of surrounding environment and human actions where the trialogue among (buildings, environment, and humans) is always on. During Rome summer school 2015, students have learnt that Architectural forms should not be superimposed, where an overview of building science and control techniques will be provided to link form and performance. They worked with algorithms and sensors able to recognize and respond to human attitudes and environmental adaptation where they were able to engage digital virtual world with real environment in their final the projects. Samples of their projects will be shown in the lecture. Lecturer MOSTAFA RABEA Assistant professor, Faculty of Architecture, BAU Founder of Algoritm . Workshops, Egypt Collaborator with IAAC University and Fab lab Barcelona Co-founder of summer School Rome in collaboration with Waterloo University – Rome program
Note: call for papers 3 external prepares and presentation will be accepted to be present in the conference
